the songwriting give us some insight there how does that work what do you do
and how does it happen you just wake up and it's finished really comes in
dreams
yeah I think there's no there's no one way that songs come but like well let's
give you an example maybe you're kidding example let's do yes I would love that
oh so we we often start with a piece of music in the case of this song stuck in
a
moment it was a piece of music I was working on a piano but I I really like
how it sounds on guitar so I was playing it to Bono and it was a sort of song
with
a gospel quality and but we wanted to write a kind of a a love song but not
not a sort of straight love song and Bono got inspired lyrically yeah there was
also Larry and Adam heard it and Larry thought it sounded sissy I don't know I
don't know what that means it's it's it's it's Irish for in to in touch with
your
feminine self and and and and so we actually he was kind of right because of
a very high chorus and we wanted a bit more biting and we had we still miss but
we were really missing at the time a very very good friend of ours a guy called
Michael Hutchins who sang for in excess and beautiful man and and and it's he
he
died in a horrible way and and I got you know sometimes it was grief I think it
can
affect you in a different way and I wrote the songs kind of like a angry song
in a
way it's a sort of it's like an argument between two friends and that's what
contrast the emotion of this beautiful chorus which edge had got coming from
the
the gospel tradition if you want to do a little bit of it
I'm not afraid of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me
That I haven't already heard
I'm just trying to find
A decent melody
A song that I can sing
In my own company
And you are such a fool
To worry like you do
You gotta stand up straight
Carry your own way
These tears are going nowhere
Baby
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later we'll be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
And you can't get out of it
I will not forsake the colors that you bring
But the nights you fill with fireworks
Do they leave you with nothing?
I'm still enchanted by a light you brought to me
Still listen through your ears
And through your eyes I can see
And you are such a fool
And you are such a fool
To worry like you do
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I know it's tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you don't really need now
My, my, my, my, my
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And now you can't get out of it
Oh, love, look at you now
Stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Take your time a little bit
Take your time
I wasn't jumping
For me it was a fall
It's a long way down
To nothing at all
The water is warm
Till you discover how deep
It's a long way down
To nothing at all
Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Don't say that
Later we'll be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Sing it
And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if the way should fall to earth
Along that stony prayer
Beautiful
And if the night runs over
And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if your way should fall to earth
Along that stony path
It's just a moment
It's just a moment
It's just a moment
Fear to shine
Pass
I'm sorry. I was, uh, I kept waiting for my part.
Then we'd have something.
