our next guest is a star of film and tv you perhaps remember her from little
women or her
critically acclaimed television show my so-called life it's our pleasure to
welcome claire danes
how do you do oh i'm fine welcome to the show you look lovely in person as as
you do on on film
it's very nice you know you and i have something in common you must know about
this by now don't
you have the same birthday we share a birthday that's right april 12th april 12th
we're both
aries it's a good sign you think so what do you know of the uh attributes of aries
the astrological
sign that apply to your life actually quite a bit on my so-called life that
makeup and hair people were
avid astrological guru type of people they have to be really for that line of
work right so everything
it goes along with the territory i think so but no we're we're strong we're we're
uh quick
witted but we have a bit of a temper but you know what do you mean by that
let's try another little joke we're leaders david cassidy however is also david
cassidy is an aries
yeah we're in good company can i ask you how old you are when were you born i'm
16 1979 i just missed
1980. now wait a minute wait a minute what how old are you 16 16. i'm a youngin
you know you're
16 you know i don't i don't think you're old enough to be in here well
call me in a few years my goodness this is amazing to me because you you you
certainly look uh youthful
but you have a great deal of poison presence that i wouldn't normally associate
with a 16 year old
next year when i'm 17 who knows yeah well
it's gonna be scary
uh you know i'm nervous now because i had no idea you were 16.
aries aren't supposed to get nervous all right well i'll see what i can do but
that's uh
tell us tell us what uh life is like for a very successful actress who happens
to be 16. what kind
of things do you do well we uh we we go out we date we get boy crazy no you do
date novels we have
heavy conversations all right let's go back to the dating you actually go out
on dates it's okay to go
out on dates when you're 16. well uh well sure really what kind of dates do you
have i have a boyfriend
though what's his name andrew oh andrew what kind of guy how old is andrew's 18.
oh man all of us
only two years everybody gets all excited i'm not excited about that i just
i i'm 48. i know well you know oh actually i didn't know you didn't know but
you could tell
by looking at me that's what you're thinking
no no
so what kind of things do you and andrew do is he a nice guy decent fellow or
is he a punk he's not a
punk no no no no people think he is he dresses i think he is dresses kind of
punkish does he get
good grades andrew is he in school well he just graduated from high school he's
going to go on to
college well he's being a musician uh-huh uh-oh he's gonna he's gonna take a
year off gonna take a
year off and he's thinking about it but right now it takes a year to think that's
what he's gonna do
these kids today i want to tell you he doesn't need to go to college he thinks
uh but you get along
pretty well it's a nice happy more or less oh it's great it's fabulous you uh
you spend some time
surfing do you do that i went to surf camp for a week in baltimore in baltimore
no i didn't
why amea bay the bonsai pipeline it's the other way animi hermosa beach no we're
going to baltimore
no no i'm sorry now you hyped up baltimore but uh it was there's no surf in baltimore
delaware
there is sir big surf country very little but enough to for us beginners all
right and what was
that like did you enjoy the experience great i went with my best friend or or
one of them who was an avid
surfer sleeps with her surfboard and she dragged me to this camp she looked it
up in the back of her
magazine and we went there and the guy who ran it was a born again and was
trying very hard to convert
all of us born again christian can wanted to convert you all to christianity or
to become reborn in that
faith yeah meanwhile he was teaching us how to surf apparently but he gave us a
bible surf in the sun
s-o-n haha oh surfing the sun well that's not that's sort of cute isn't it
rather clever yeah yeah
but uh no i did fairly well you know i got a little frightened because i didn't
really know what i was
doing are these the big boards or the short boards i had the longest board
possible they start out on
the longer boards yeah nine feet which is long you know who was the greatest
surfer of them all no they
weren't at my camp but you know he was apparently the first surfer he surfed
over from japan or something
yeah uh are you are you i you know i'm sorry about getting this thing screwed
up with clueless you're
not in that movie oh it's okay no you're clueless if you'd been in that movie
it would have been 100
well i don't know i haven't seen the movie yet i'm actually excited yeah i
think it'd be pretty good
amy heckerling does nice work she probably didn't direct it i have no idea what
i'm talking about
uh so what are you going to do next what what's uh what's uh well you know will
you ever be older
apparently yeah i guess i'm working very hard what are you working on next well
i just finished
a movie called i love you i love you not who's in that jeanne moreau she's a
little french actress
very good yes so that was great but no i'm i'm jules and jim come on uh no so i
don't know i'm
waiting to hear about everything waiting is very painful can you come back
every night
oh we may have to adjust the music budget i'm sorry it's all right
uh yeah you couldn't be more delightful what a wonderful young person you uh
turned out to be
and i like to think i had something to do with it oh we do have the same yeah
we do it was a pleasure
meeting you claire thank you very much claire daines ladies and gentlemen thank
you
