My travels recently took me to Spahari, New York,
a charming little town located about three hours north of Manhattan.
How often do you watch the Letterman show?
Tell you the truth, not very often. I get up early in the morning.
Not me. I don't care for him.
I'm the kind of guy.
Why?
I just don't care for some of his actions.
I'm a Jay Leno fan.
Are you really?
Yes.
I went to the school and read to some of the students.
There's nothing more rewarding than helping kids learn to read.
Not in a car, Sam, let me be.
I would not, could not, in a box.
I could not, would not, with a box.
One of the highlights of my visit was seeing Mildred Veroman's collection of 5,000
decorated eggs.
You know, I don't know much about presidents,
but that guy, James Polk,
Yeah.
That's one good-looking son of a bitch.
As a president, which one to you is the best-looking?
Oh, I don't know.
Never thought about it.
Bill Clinton?
Probably.
Well, when we first started, you put a hole in each end of the egg,
and then put it to your mouth and blow.
And just blow into it, and it's going to come out.
Oh, my.
Oh, good job, man.
How did you do that?
Oh, boy, I wouldn't want him to blow any eggs for me.
The glass bar is where many folks in town go to unwind.
Do you think we should go to war with the rock?
Um, I don't know.
Let me ask you this.
What should we do about Y2K?
My theory is, let's go to war.
When you get down to New York City, what is the thing you want to do the most?
Um, party.
What did you do before you retired?
What did I do before I retired?
I always drank.
Here I am with the Harry Mayor John Bois.
The most powerful man in New York politics.
How much did you spend on your campaign?
I probably spent, um, $25.
Mr. Mayor, um, are you considering running for a second term?
I hadn't considered running for a second term.
Even if we pay for your campaign?
It gets $25.
It could be too big.
This is Hans Yankee.
He's nuts.
Do you see my sign down by the road?
What is his name?
Danger, men drinking.
The yellow sign.
Which animal in your property most resembles David Letterman?
I would probably say sweepy.
Sweepy.
For two years, I wanted to get a tattoo.
Well, my neighbor up the road says,
well, what about that guy, Paul Bunyan?
I says, yeah, that freaking ox he's got, that blue ox.
Check this out.
Check this out.
That Paul Bunyan?
Yeah?
Got a little mountain ridge in here.
Got a little cabin over here.
Smoke, smoke coming up.
And what's his other one over here?
Oh, that's the Indian Scout.
He's looking over the valley going,
at this guy over here.
Look at the size of that son of a bitch.
At the local hardware store,
Wayne Schell taught me how to do a turkey call.
What's the loudest thing you got?
I got something for you right over here.
I got something for you right over here.
So how about we pat each other down?
Well, if you think so.
Check these out.
I'll never forget the things I saw in Skahari.
Check this out.
But Lord knows I'm going to try.
Thank you.
