Our next guest is in his second season as one of the stars of the popular
television program
Saturday Night Live. Here's Jimmy Fallon. Hi, nice to meet you. Nice to meet
you, too. First of all,
thank you very much for getting all fixed up for the show. You're welcome. This
is your second year
on Saturday Night Live? Yeah. Yeah, you must have, it's like a dream come true,
isn't it? It's like
something, it's so weird. It's like, you know, you always hear those like fairytale
stories, like if I
throw a coin to Fountain or cut a birthday cake, I always wanted to be on
Saturday Night Live my
whole life, you know, and then like it happened. I was like, I can't believe it
happened to me.
It's crazy. Yeah. Well, and how does it happen? I mean, I assume there's an
audition or somebody
sees you working somewhere. Oh, yeah, yeah. I actually, I got the audition. I
finally got that
and I went down to New York. They flew me into New York. Where are you from? I'm
actually from
upstate New York. Oh, where? By the rest home. Yeah, the rest home. Yeah, the
rest home up there.
And I hope they're all watching tonight. They're taping it. They got to sleep.
That's right.
But they'll see me. They got everything hooked up to the clapper.
That's all I know. So, yeah, so they flew me out to the audition. I'm sitting
there and I'm ready
to go on. Lauren, it's in the actual studio, you know, where like legendary monologues
have been
there. Steve Martin, all these people. Oh, this is like a studio. It's in NBC.
Yeah, it is. Oh, yeah.
It's so cool. Historic television. Historic. Thank you. Radio facility. Before
that, it was a radio
facility. Then television. It just goes back and back and back. Yeah. Yeah. So
we're there and I go in
there and I'm ready to go on. And they go, oh, Jimmy, sorry, this guy Matt has
to go on before you.
Hope you don't mind. Yeah. And I said, oh, no, I don't care. She's like, yeah,
he's got an audition.
I said, okay. Matt goes by. He's got a box full of wigs and a keyboard.
Oh, you're thinking you're dead. How am I going to follow that? I don't have a
wigs and a keyboard.
Oh, look out. I'm trying to think. What can I do? You know?
Musical hairpiece. Yeah. The guy's great. Yeah. I was like, oh, I was like, I'm
going to see some
crazy bits. So anyways, I did it and I got the show. Yeah. And do you remember
what you did at the
audition that they really liked? Yeah. I did like, you know, I did. I remember
I did an Adam Sandler
impersonation and he, um, he didn't expect it. I don't think. And Lauren kind
of, they said like,
Lauren's not going to laugh, you know? And then he was sitting there and I did
Adam Sandler and
he started laughing. Like, I saw him like, like put his head in his hands. I
was like, wow. I was
like, it's like a Wonder Years moment. Yeah. So, so Adam Sandler was there when
you did the
impression or just Lauren Michaels was there? Lauren Michaels was there. Yeah.
No, Adam Sandler
wasn't there. Yeah. And Lauren, of course, full of white wine. This is the
middle of the day.
I don't know. Sure. So whenever you see a picture of the guy, I created the
show. I don't care
what Ebersol says. At least it's not like a beer can or something. No, it's not.
It's a
little, it's a little prop. Yeah. Can you do an impression for us here or you
don't, you
don't like this? Well, do you mind or not? I mean, do a little Adam Sandler.
I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said, I said.
Pretty good. Thanks, man. Thanks. What else do you do on the show? What other
impressions?
I do like a bunch of, a bunch of impressions on the show. I did a couple weeks
ago for the
premiere, I did Seinfeld with Seinfeld. Oh, wow. It was me and it was like a
point, counterpoint.
Yeah. Let's see a little Seinfeld. Yeah. All right. Uh, it was like, uh, we
were talking
about the gap and I was like, he's like, what's the deal with the gap? I mean,
I go there.
What are these drawstring pants? Where are we going? A clam bake? What's going
on?
I love the gap. You know? Thank you. Thank you very much.
I think Jerry is going to a clam bake, isn't he? I think it seems about right
for Jerry.
Yeah. He was a nice guy. A good sport to do that. Yeah, I think so. Uh, and it,
but you,
you started performing as a, doing standup comedy. I'm, I'm taking a shot here.
That's
what your background really? Yeah. Yeah. Actually, this is cool. I did a, I'm
starting to do colleges
now and you know that I'm on the show. Yeah. A couple people know me. Sure. You
know,
small crowds, but, uh, still fun. And I go to all these colleges now. I just
had one last week
and, uh, they put me on an on-campus apartment, they said. Right? So, you know,
I go in there.
Yeah. You know what it was? It was a dorm. Yeah. I had roommates. I had
roommates and I'm like,
what? And these two guys come in. I'm sleeping. These two guys come in. Baseball
high. It's like,
I'm Duck and he's Sully. Can you borrow your hot plate? And I was like,
On-campus apartment. Oh my God. Yeah. So I got out of there quick.
And where do you live now? You moved recently, right? Yeah. I'm actually up
here. I live up here now.
Right in 50th and, uh, in Broadway. It's just beautiful. How's that going?
Oh, I love New York. It's awesome. Everyone thinks New York is very dangerous,
you know?
Yeah. But it's actually, it's, it's not that bad. I just, I'm pretty paranoid
when I walk down the
street though. Just in case. Yeah. Well, it's, it's probably going to be
dangerous. Everybody keeps
telling you it's going to be dangerous. Yeah. Yeah. So I get scared. I saw, I
saw some kid out there
with a water gun. Oh, like a little, uh, squirt? Well, yeah, they've changed
water guns. They've like,
it's like the craziest thing I've never seen. Like, I remember it used to be
like this little clear plastic thing,
like, you know, dad's having the barbecue or something, you know? You gotta go
refill,
you know? Two squirts, you're done. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly.
Always leaked from somewhere. Yeah, exactly. You put it in the sink,
three bubbles, it's full. You're ready to go. Yeah. Kids coming out with water
guns,
they're like a, like a, ch-ch-ch-ch-ch. So you're like, what are you doing? You
just blew my shirt off.
What's going on? Put the fire out. That's no good.
Keep walking around. He's got like a 50 gallon tank on his back. It weighs more
than him. He's
like, I can't see. Am I hitting anybody? You got this, uh, book here on, uh,
this is what I know
about this book. You wrote this, uh, uh, with your sister. Is that right? Yeah,
me and my sister
about this project. Yeah, it was really cool. Uh, we, oh, that's nice. What do
you mean?
Product shot. I didn't know you're gonna. I'm holding it up. Is that all right?
It was weird.
Yeah, I thought you were just holding it like that. Well, I am just holding it.
What's nice.
Isn't that a cool cover? Yeah, it looks good. Yeah, yeah. Well, you don't have
to do that.
That's crazy. Put it down. But, uh, yeah. You seem kind of disturbed by it,
actually. Oh,
yeah. Well, you're just standing like this, and I just-- Where do people go to
get the book?
This is just a compilation of thoughts from your life shared by your sister.
Your sister used to fax
these thoughts back and forth across the country. Yeah, we did email. And then
you put it in a book.
Yeah. Yeah, I was in, uh, L.A. at the improv. She was in Boston.
She was in Boston. Yeah, that's right. You psychic?
They don't give these shows to chimps, my friend.
You do your homework, man. Hey, a pleasure meeting you. Do me a favor. Come
back again.
All right, I love you. Thank you very much. Thank you very much.
Jimmy Fallon, ladies and gentlemen.
