Hi, I'm Barbara. This is Dave. Hi, Dave Letterman. Hi, Barbara. Nice to see you.
How you doing?
Good. How are you? Very well, thank you. This is very exciting. Very exciting.
A guy came up to me.
We can go or so. And he says, hey, are you that, did I see you on that
anniversary? And I said,
the Barbara Gaines show? And he said, yeah, yeah, yeah, the Barbara Gaines show.
And I said, yep, it was her one year anniversary. And he said, when you see
Barbara, if you see her again,
you tell her, my wife and I love the Barbara Gaines. We can't stay up that late,
but we love the show.
You know, I've heard from some people that you being on the Barbara Gaines show
might be bad for your brand.
Yes. My people have suggested that maybe I'm on a little too often, a little
too often.
But I enjoy it. It's fun. The pay is useful.
What? I never pay you. Anyway, so we, we, last time for the anniversary, we had
this fantastic jacket.
It's from 1995. You signed it.
We were just told, one of our staff members, that this is from the second
season.
Right.
The first jacket we had made was to commemorate our, uh, moving into the Ed
Sullivan theater and the way the script across the front of the jacket, it
looked like Ed Sullivan.
And then when you opened the jacket, it looked like Ed's Yulee van. Like we
were in the Yulee van business.
Yes.
And the slogan was, don't just rent a van, rent a Yulee van.
You were disappointed with that.
I was disappointed with it. But now I, uh, chair, I have one and I cherish as a
keepsake.
Sure. I do too.
Mm-hmm.
So it's the big moment.
Oh, tell people what we've done here.
So we got a thingy.
We don't, no, no, but we, we raffled off that jacket.
Oh yes, I'm sorry. We raffled off the jacket.
Uh, a thousand, uh, names. No, a thousand tickets, $20 a ticket.
20 bucks a ticket for a shot at winning the second jacket.
Now the first jacket was purchased by a guy in the Bronx, right?
I don't know if he was in the Bronx.
Okay. Where do you think he was?
Manhattan.
Okay. He was in Manhattan.
Yeah.
And he ended up with the winning bid and that was like, uh, almost $9,000.
Yeah. $8,700.
$8,700.
So, uh, now this thing here, this, this little, uh, Ponzi operation, we end up
generating how much?
Uh, $20,000.
$20,000. So you put those two together, that's close to 30, 30 Gs.
Right.
And tell people what becomes of that money.
That money goes to the world food program.
And you can say that with confidence.
Really?
Huh? What do you mean?
I mean, I had trouble.
You're going to get it investigated.
I had trouble getting it out.
World food program.
Yes, it goes.
$28,000.
But this is not like in one of those Madoff deals.
This is actually.
No, it's really going.
It really does.
So that's 30 grand to help feed people.
So that's, I'm very excited about that.
You know, someone on the YouTube comments mentioned that they thought it was
interesting that it's been 43 years that I've been annoying you.
Jeez, 43.
Yeah.
Seems like a hundred.
Hey.
A couple of nights ago, Paul Schaefer and the World's Most Dangerous Band, used
to be the band that worked with us.
Yes.
Lucky to have them.
We're on the Jimmy Fallon show.
I heard.
Did you see the show?
I didn't.
I saw the show and it was fantastic.
Paul and the band were great and the show was great and I enjoyed that.
Yeah, that's great for little Pauly.
Yeah, not little Pauly.
It's Pauly the musical giant for God's sake.
Oh, he's a musical giant.
Can we do it?
This is the thingy.
Okay.
Okay, I'll hold it and you crank.
I wish I had a nickel for every time.
Okay, go ahead.
All right.
So.
All right.
No, keep going.
Slower.
Slower because the centrifugal force is pinning them to the skin of the
cylinder.
Do you remember when we had Alan do this over and over and over?
Okay, now reverse it.
Okay, okay.
Now let go, let go.
We thank you, everyone who participated.
Yeah, this is grand and I hope you, while there's no chance that you in
particular are going to get the jacket.
Somebody will, but you won't.
But your 20 bucks is helping the World Food Program.
And we're definitely doing it again.
We're doing what again?
We're going to do a raffle a different way, but we're going to do it again.
Yeah, because we don't want to wear things out.
No, no.
But these jackets, yeah, okay, go ahead.
No, we're going to do it again in a different way.
It's going to be fun.
Okay, okay, hurry.
But hurry, hurry.
Now there's one sticking out.
Well, that's not the one.
Well, how do you?
I know, because you didn't take it with your little hand.
Again, with the little.
Wow, look at all those.
I pick one out?
You pick one out.
And you say.
Size seven and three eights.
No, that's not it.
Oh, no.
This one.
Wow, look at what a nice job they did printing.
Victor Alvis.
Victor Alvis.
Alvis, is there a Victor Alvis here?
Congratulations, Victor.
So now I'm going to personalize this jacket for Victor.
Do we know where he's from?
No.
Well, how do we get him the jacket?
Well, because Walter has all the information.
Okay.
So now, Victor, here's what I'm going to do for you.
I'm going to put your name in your new jacket.
I love this jacket, by the way.
I've signed it, but it's already, well, it ran and faded.
No, it's fine.
But now.
You designed it.
A little something else.
The other day, I was counting my money, and look what happened.
Look what happened.
I ripped it.
Oh, it broke.
Look at it.
I ripped that $1 bill.
Now, they say if you take it to the bank, they'll replace that for you.
So here's what I'm going to do.
I'm going to keep that.
Because it doesn't seem like Victor's getting the bigger part.
He's getting the damn jacket.
All right, fine.
All right.
Well, this has been fabulous.
It's been great.
Yes.
Can't stay up this late.
Uh-huh.
So thanks very much.
Thank you very much, Victor.
And this is grand.
This is about the only thing that gets me out of bed any morning, the idea that
finally
we're doing something good.
Yeah, I, I, yeah, what he said.
Yeah.
Okay.
Goodbye.
That's it?
Yeah.
