- Earlier this week, kids, I spent a day
following NBC anchor person Connie Chung around.
We just followed her around as she did her various errands
and so forth.
You know, she's married to Murray Povich, the guy--
The guy who is the host of "Current Affair."
- Does that sound like the--
- I think I may be on the wrong show.
What studio is this?
- 6A.
- Thank you very much, Hal.
So please join us now as we relive, relieve,
relive some magic moments from that wonderful day
that I spent with the lovely and talented Connie Chung.
Roll it, kids.
- Okay, well, this is a pretty exciting day for us.
You know what we're gonna do?
Connie Chung, the preeminent anchor person at NBC,
has consented to spend the day with us,
or actually, we're gonna spend the day with her.
And this is where, here's Connie right now.
And we're just gonna follow her around all day.
Hi, Connie. Nice to see you.
- Hi, Dave. How are ya?
- Thanks for letting us follow you around.
- Sure.
- This is the truck. Do you mind riding in the truck?
- No, it's great.
- We're spending the day with Connie Chung.
Hi, how you doing?
So we go to the building first, where do we go?
- We're gonna go pick up some shoe trees for Maury.
- Maury Povich needs shoe trees?
Does he have problem feet?
- No.
No, they keep your shoes stiff.
- Oh, brother.
This is, this may be the dullest day of my life.
- How old a man is he?
Maury.
- Maury. How old a man is he?
- He's 50.
- And this is what Connie will be doing in a couple weeks.
All this plus Andy Rooney coming up next on 60 Minutes.
- No, David.
Uh-uh.
No, get that out of your head.
- Construction workers drinking beer, Connie.
Construction workers drinking beer.
- They're drunk.
- Then they're gonna go build buildings.
- Hey! It's Connie Chung!
Hey!
- I did my job.
- Oh, my God.
- Oh, my God.
- He did that to Connie Chung.
Going in here now to get the shoe trees?
- No.
- All right.
- Would that be in the garden department?
- No.
- Wait a minute.
Connie, do you have an Allen wrench on you?
We're gonna have to fry these.
Oh, thank you very much.
- Okay.
- All right.
Can you, thank you.
- Sure.
- What do you mean can I?
- Of course I can.
Connie, let's check in here.
Hi.
Uh, we need to pick up some special order shoe trees.
- Hello.
- Hi.
How are you?
- Oh, my God.
- Nice to see you.
Special order shoe trees for Connie's husband, Maury.
- Maury.
- Maury.
- He has problems.
- Would that be in the garden department?
- Would that be in the garden department?
- Maury.
- He has problem feet.
- He doesn't have problem feet.
- He has extra wide feet.
- No, no.
I think they're right over here.
- Oh, those are beauties.
Look at those, Connie.
- That's great.
- What exactly do, what's the purpose of shoe trees?
What do they do?
- It keeps the shape of the shoes.
- Uh-huh.
- Well, don't your feet do that?
Let me buy the shoe trees.
- No, really.
- No.
- All right, turn off the cameras.
Turn off the cameras.
See, on 60 Minutes, if you can get a guy to do that on camera, say, turn off,
then you're
set for life.
- Yes, you're right.
- How much is it?
- David, I can't have you pay for this.
- Stop the whining.
Just don't whine, please.
- Maury's going to be very upset.
- He won't know.
How will he know?
- Oh, he's never.
Yeah, like he stays up to see this.
- He does.
- Pretty much dozes off on his food, doesn't he?
- Don't you think shoe size is indicative?
- Of what?
- In a man.
- I don't know.
I don't know what you're getting at, Connie.
- You don't?
- No.
- Yes, you do.
- Thank you very much.
- You want to get a hot dog?
- Nice to see you.
- Let's get a hot dog.
- All right, gonna get a hot dog with Connie.
Three of them with kraut and mustard.
Three with kraut, mustard, and relish.
And don't touch them.
Don't touch them.
Don't touch them.
No, no, don't touch them.
If I see you touching them, the deal's off.
Oh, you touched it.
That one's no good.
I saw you touch that one.
He touched that one.
You touched it.
Don't touch them.
Thank you very much.
- Can I have a Coke?
- Coke?
- Oh, brother.
- I'm sorry.
- Like a made out of money?
- Uh-uh.
- Brother, look at this.
Oh, my God.
Look at this.
There's Murray, for sake, on a bus.
Oh, brother.
Hey, Murray, we got your shoe trees.
I'm spending the day with this guy's wife, and he rolls by on a bus.
- Okay, David.
- Thank you for the ride.
- Thank you.
- You're welcome.
- Whoa.
- Where exactly is your office?
- Here's Connie's actual office.
Geez, Connie, this is, prisoners have more room than this.
Guys on death row have a bigger cell.
- I know.
- All right, we gotta go.
- Okay.
Thanks, David.
- Listen, when you get over there, don't let those guys, don't let Ed Bradley,
don't let, uh...
- David.
- Don't let any of those guys, don't let, uh...
Who's the anchorman?
What's that nasty guy's name?
Don't, don't, uh, don't let them push you around.
- David.
- 'Cause they'll have me to answer to you.
- I'm gonna be here at NBC, okay?
- All right, goodbye, Connie.
- Nice to see ya.
- Bye, thanks.
Thanks for the day.
