okay here we go you know this woman don't you paul yes i do uh my first guest
is the author of this
book right here it's called raquel the raquel welch total beauty and fitness
program hello
please say hello to raquel welch
you know paul you met paul a couple of times thanks for being here nice to see
you you know
uh raquel we've been on the air four years and i'm guessing at least once a
week maybe twice
sometimes twice a week we've we phone you we send telegrams we tried we tried
to have you on the
show i went across the hall once you did live at five but you wouldn't do our
show and then
our producer went down to washington you were doing some kind of a book
convention
and he begged and pleaded and i think there was some cash involved but finally
we're really
happy you came on yeah well thanks you know um i don't know why i waited so
long i guess yeah you
know why long now why didn't you want to come on the show i like long foreplay
oh my god who could afford who could afford a room for four years well nice to
have you here
oh my oh my oh my oh i'm sorry about that no um you had my my daughter your
lovely daughter tawny
yes and uh that encouraged me a lot because uh you're very nice with her and
she's a very nice
person how do you get along with tawny you get along great we most of the time
we get along great you
know mothers and daughters always have little you know things here and there
but she and i are really
kind of best friends and then of course now when you say little things here and
there what kind of
things do you have problems with what what kind of what would be a uh well do
you have kind of an
ongoing thing that irritates you that she does no actually nothing in
particular that she irritates
me that she does because she's really a great kid i mean she's beautiful and
she's bright what was
the talent she was in she was in cocoon oh yeah cocoon yeah right i don't know
it's just you know it's
just because you're the mother you know you tell them things that you know you
know will help
and they don't listen to you you know what's one piece of advice you gave to
her that you know she
ignored oh gosh well she just she ignores me pretty much most of the time but
she stood up for me
that night you called me a deadhead or something like that remember you said
you know your mother
never comes on this show what is she a party pooper or what she got no sense of
humor or what you
know and she said hey talking about my mother remember that i don't recall
calling you a deadhead
i don't think so but yeah she was uh we said if you see your mom ask her if she'll
come and be on
the show well she did yeah yeah here you are so yeah so you know she said you're
a good guy and i'm
all right um i'm not sure on a scale from one to ten i'm not sure good guy
would be the way you'd want
i'm a little cranky today because i have this horrible cold and now you're
gonna have it yeah
barbara gaines uh our production uh what do you do production what our
production coordinator
is passing it around the office oh well exactly we're having some trouble here
tonight i'm sorry
you had to hear that i'll give the call to my husband all right now tell me
tell me about your
act paul has i know seen your act and where was it paul atlantic city city yeah
killer killer killer act
and uh but i understand in addition to coming out and singing and dancing which
we would of course
expect from you you do we would wouldn't we expect that from me yeah i guess
would you expect it well
sure well that's what you do isn't it yeah sort of every four years i do now
there you go again with
that stuff um yeah you know i do a kind of a concert act where i sing and dance
and i i come out and do
what's expected of me yes well uh no and uh i have fun with it because i put in
a kind of a comedy
section this year and uh oh could we borrow that you could you could come on
the show with me and
help me out tell me about the comedy section what do you do well you know it's
sort of rock and roll
things you know i sort of do takeoffs and my favorite rock and roll stars you
do some impressions
yeah i do i think we have something here elvis and mick jagger and bruce springsteen
here we have a
picture in a time magazine of raquel welch as uh this is uh i guess that of
course is uh that's elvis
no no no that's bruce springsteen it must be prince and and uh what do you do
you sing a song as they
would no i really i really can't sing a song as they would but i kind of you
know i kind of it's
just the takeoffs because i've always been you know do one what are you kidding
me oh yeah i'm kidding
yeah that's it i'm kidding
but you know but you started doing this around the house and you would do you
would do it for friends
right and that's how you get into it well yeah well did i yeah well i have well
you know it's
kind of part of the thing that i do i mean i'm kind of a mimic when nobody's
sort of watching me and i
have you know my generation kind of grew up on rock and roll so i would do elvis
and that was like
it's not just sort of around the house do a little elvis you're kidding me no
just a little
how do i get myself in it i can't do it but raquel these people paid 20 and in
some cases 30
dollars a ticket to get in here uh all right well think it over i'll tell you
what let's do
in all fairness think it over we'll do a commercial and when we come back think
it over yeah think it
over sure please louise now come back and we'll uh do a little elvis and you
can use paul in the
it'll be great don't worry about it it'll be great we'll we'll be right back
here okay welcome back
here okay now you've had a couple of minutes to think it over whatever just a
little elvis do a
little elvis i can't i haven't got my charts oh we don't need charts just just
do like like five
seconds i can't i can't just the face can you do like i gotta get into it you
know what i mean come
on raquel stop we got the music what is that jailhouse i don't do jail what do
you do i only do blue
suede shoes all right blue suede shoes do we have that over there boys no no no
no no no no
no i this is too impromptu i can't do it i can't do it just like that i have to
work myself i know
i know i mean i would like to do it if i would have known that i was gonna do
it then i would have
done it yeah but and i i need this foreplay oh stop all right but i tell you if
you ever come back
things just quick like that bam bam thank you it can't i can't work
so invite me back on the show and the next time i have a book
yeah sure that's oh that's the reason you came to plug the book now is this
book doing well well
actually it just came out there was a hard hardback copy at first it was a
heart that was a bestseller
oh you had a bestseller already yeah and then this is the paperback edition
which is much cheaper you
see how much is it
i mean you know it's uh you got the monster over there barking prices at us
who is that man is that who is that man yeah
a mc francais he's my husband oh it's your husband hi how are you nice to see
you
9.95 i thought bob barker was over there people you're gonna start running down
bidding on this
thing uh 9.95 all right now tell us what what this deal is it's the total
beauty and fitness program
now did you design this entire program i didn't really design it i i was just
the program that i
particularly do and because i know you you run and some people do aerobics and
i can't do that kind
of a thing so i found yoga which helped me and i thought it was nice to have an
alternative you know
you're a striking woman these these pictures are certainly uh amazing to look
at
okay and and so what are you doing someone for example what are you doing here
i'm falling out of my position and what is that that that's falling down that's
sort of falling out
of something all right but you do how sometimes i can do it when i try but
explain to me how this
works you get up in the morning and then what i get i get up in the morning
yeah and um i do my
exercises on a kind of empty stomach and i do these sort of yoga exercises that
are so it's similar to
yoga isn't it well it actually is yoga yeah i didn't call it yoga because i
think too many people
think of yoga as something very sort of weird and offbeat and kind of too misto
i'm sorry to what
misto to misto yeah you know that's that's what kept me out of yoga that uh
that whole misto thing
i said no sir but you know i wanted to show that it's really basically a very
it's just i'm looking
for some photos here that are truly amazing oh look at this one my gosh look at
that good lord you do
this you can look like that i want to show one picture and then we'll go on
here's you as a little
kid yeah this is me when i'm seven years old yeah yeah when i used to my see
they like that i know the
kids used to hang on my braids and am i looking in the wrong place for this
picture it's in the back
he's trying it's what another chance to embarrass me i still didn't hear what
he said i have this terrible
head cold what did you say the a position the a position must be standing i
have number 22
i don't have an a here paul give me an a would you here let me see let me see
if i can find the a
well standing a you mean we'll edit all this out this would be no problem now
what happens with the
standing a well you know a lot of people say you know if they want to revitalize
themselves they hang
from boots and stuff or hang upside down do this kind of thing this is you get
the same results
just by doing that all you have to do is just drop yourself down oh we're gonna
see it oh we're gonna
see it but not from that angle folks like that oh my if you stay down like that
you're you're basically
all the blood and everything is rushing to your head and your spine yeah
straightens out your spine
it helps your circulation that's right and it takes the wrinkles out of your
shorts that too what's
what's the top number you can go to oh i know i don't want to hear it i don't
want to hear it
what do you mean no never mind i mean well you have all of these physicians
numbered
i mean how how higher now wait a minute like that we just saw 22 is that the
highest you can i mean is
that the oh i only yeah i do i think it is 23 23 positions yeah no no i'm sorry
28 28 positions and
are they all in the book here they're all in the book jesus it was nice to meet
you you think you'll
ever come back yeah next time tell me what you want me to do and then i'll do
it for you well you
i think you pretty much all right we're not waiting four years uh nice meeting
you thank you nice to
meet you yes ma'am thank you take care of yourself we'll uh we'll be back after
station identification
