ladies and gentlemen our next guest is a wonderful actress whose work you've
seen in such motion
pictures as uh moonlight and valentino and uh also the blockbuster seven her
newest film is called
the pallbearer and it opens uh today as a matter of fact do me a favor please
welcome to the late
show gwyneth paltrow do you see what he's doing over there he's pretending to
be very very cute
he's playing what's the frequency kenneth it's gwyneth very nice paul very very
hip gwyneth
welcome to the program thank you very much how you doing i'm excellent thanks
do you mind if we
talk a little bit about yourself uh no no all right let's go where are you from
uh i was born in los
angeles oh because because now let me point this out uh your parents are show
business people yeah
actors and producers and that kind of thing your mother is paul was on the show
of my father's
which show was that tattingers the show he did in new york that's right that's
exactly right i did a
marvelous cameo in the taxes absolutely right with your father but he wasn't a
priest why don't you go
out there and sit in the hallway you need a question you have a question for gwyneth
sit in
the hallway so your father is bruce paltrow producer and your mother is uh is a
blythe dinner
oh a fine actress a lovely woman and a fine actress so so at an early age you
probably that's
what you were going to do be an actress did you know early on uh i think that i
did you know when
when you grow up and watch your mommy pretend for a living it's kind of kind of
interesting now did that
provide for you a normal childhood or an abnormal childhood well it was normal
for me but i i suppose
in uh the realm of america it's not quite normal do you remember your first
experience on stage or with
the theater or whatever i think my very first experience was my mother was
doing uh the seagull
uh checkoff play and uh i was three and apparently naked and took it upon
myself to get up and do her
monologue so i think that was the first that was the first so you actually
walked out now was this
during a production or rehearsal yeah it was just during a rehearsal well that's
nice it's a nice little
touch a little bit yeah in fact i do that frequently now no you don't uh were
your parents strict with
you or not what kind of a kid worried did you get in trouble a lot or were you
yeah as a teenager have
you ever been arrested no really you have haven't you no what what i mean i
have no i've never been
arrested yes we know you with those speeding speeding tickets yes i've had some
speeding things but i've
never been incarcerated it's never this i take it back haven't seen me on an
episode of cops
all right tv boy get out of the car with your hands up come on let's go spread
them no that hasn't
happened uh but you got into some mischief yourself certainly what kind of
things well you know i would
sneak out of the house a lot how old were you when this was going on probably
about 16 16 right but i
would leave a note for them on my bed mom and dad yeah i would say mom and dad
i snuck out i'm not
kidnapped i'm at this bar and you can punish me when i get home wow and that
was okay with mom and
dad that their 16 year old daughter well i guess it is better than being
kidnapped isn't it i never got
caught though and that was the thing and they the uh they thought this was all
right for you to be doing
no certainly not yeah but but they never knew i would i would sneak down the
stairs of our townhouse with
the golden retrievers on either side of me so they would think the noise was
them i see and then you
and the dogs would go out and get drunk that's right yeah that's good in the
dogs go out hunting
me and the dogs i've taken the dogs out for a hunt mom and dad we're going
after quail we'll
go back in a couple of years um and the the film the pallbearer i saw it a
couple of weeks ago it's
very entertaining it's a it's a how do you describe it you know who else is in
it is david schwimmer
is he in the right yeah he's very good he's one of the friends you know is he
yeah have you
have you been on the friends show i don't know what that is what's friends but
the show the uh
the film is kind of a how do you describe it is i want to keep saying black
comedy and dark comedy
kind of a darkish comedy yeah and it's uh tell the folks what it is well it's
wild and wacky and funny
and it's just a uh it's it's uh you know he plays this sort of lost guy and he's
kind of pining after
my character right and a guy dies who he doesn't remember and the the mother of
the guy calls him
and asks him to be a pallbearer and because then the fun begins and then the
fun begins the fun ensues
now tell me about your boyfriend brad pitt what's the deal going there how is
that
what kind of a guy is he is he a nice guy he's the best how did you guys meet
was this on uh the film
we met well we've met a couple of times before actually just sort of around um
but we we really
met and started going out on seven yeah yeah he's the sexiest man alive you
know really yeah people
magazine the sexiest man alive brad pitt no no sexiest man alive no no barney
bowles
it's good to see you thank you very much the big film opens today and who else
is in the cast it's
you david uh david uh barbara hershey barbara hershey uh bitty shram tony collette
michael vartan
well i hope it's a big big hit for you nice to see a pleasure to meet you give
my best to your well
well i know your dogs tell you dogs i said well when it's false you're welcome
back and then let's go
