Welcome back to the program ladies and gentlemen. My next guest is a founding
member of the band Blondie
and she is certainly, she is now also pursuing a solo career as a singer and an
actress. Her latest
film is entitled Videodrome. Welcome please, Deborah Harry.
Nice to see you. Now what does that mean exactly? Ha. I don't know. You don't,
you have no idea what that means?
No, I don't know. Several people up there went yee-haw. Yes, I thought they
were your friends.
Uh, I don't know. What was the purpose for the yee-haw? Is there any
significance to that?
She's blonde. Oh, I see. It's because of her hair color. Ah, feel ripped off.
Uh, now they, they did. The gentleman up there mentioned that he thought you
were blonde and
quite obviously your auburned colored hair. Yes, I was blonde. Yeah. And, and
is this,
what would be the actual color of your hair? Is this it? Maybe this is it. This
is it, isn't it?
Close. Yeah. Uh, and why did you switch from blonde to... Oh, I don't know. I
guess I felt adventurous.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, good for you. Thank you. Uh, now, can I ask you about these
also? Why? Well,
I've never, I've never seen those before. You've never seen boots before? Well,
I'm not, not exactly like this.
Can we, do you mind if you just move that up a little? Oh, no, no, no, no. No,
but look,
they look like, I thought they were just large socks. These are long boots, you
know, like,
Yeah. They're hot too, but... Yeah, well, they look nice. They look nice. Thank
you.
Do you chafe in those much? Uh, if I run a lot, I guess like... Yeah, yeah. Uh,
you know,
I was, uh, reading, uh, articles about you this afternoon. What is this, by the
way? That's my friend,
uh, Rosanna Batsy. Rosanna Batsy. Yes. Came to the show. You know, he couldn't,
couldn't miss it. Uh-huh. And what, what exactly does this do? Anything? Oh,
yes. He, he does a lot
of things. He was a Hollywood stunt bat. Yeah. That's nice. That's very nice.
And, uh,
uh, he also does Superman, which is like this. Uh-huh. Where? Wait. Which way?
This way? Yes.
Super bat. Yeah. And, uh, well, he just... That's very nice. It's hard to meet
you. Thank
you. I appreciate it. I, I'm glad you brought the bat in. Thank you. Uh, anyway,
I came across two
interesting things regarding your life. One was that you feel like it's taking
you a while to get over the
initial trauma of being born. Is that right? Oh, you know, he, I talked to your
friend Jerry on the phone,
you know, before the show, they do the questions on the phone. He's not
actually a friend. He's not.
He works here. He works here. Picks up a check. Yeah. He asked me about the
phone. Well, I don't know.
I don't, that's serious, isn't it? I don't know, is it? Well, getting born is
serious. It must be scary
coming out like that. Yeah. But you, you feel that the, did you have a
difficult, well, you wouldn't know. I wouldn't
know. Yeah. I'm just guessing. And, and you feel like you're suffering the
effects of? Oh, yes.
No, I think everyone does. Seriously. Really? Yes. I mean, imagine if your
first breath of air,
whack, that's it. Yeah. That's. And, and how, how. That would scare me. Uh, how,
how do you think that,
uh, how did this manifest itself in your life? These, these fears, residual
fears? Oh, I don't know.
You don't know. This is just kind of a hunch thing. Yeah. It's just my theory.
You know,
one of those. Yeah. Why did he, why did he ask me that? Uh, because Jerry, the
guy who works for me,
he, he mentioned that this would be, uh, something that we could talk about. Oh,
good question. Now,
let me ask you something else I heard from Jerry. Forget, forget him. Uh, you,
you one time lived in a
haunted house? Yes. Yes. It was fun. An actual haunted house? It was a, yes. It
was a loft
building on a Bowery and there were, um, little, you know, some ghosts, poltergeists.
Yeah. And what
would these things do? They would, uh, start fires and make noise and, um, move
things. And how would,
I mean, how do you know that the fires didn't start by, you know, bad wiring or?
Uh, well, it,
we were standing and watching stuff. We were trying to light a fire in the
fireplace
and we kept trying and, I mean, we were lighting it, lighting it, lighting it,
lighting it.
And all of a sudden it went like that and just like burst into flames.
And the, and you think the, the ghost did it? Well, no, there were a lot of incidences
that,
you know, just kept, kept on and on and on. But for, for a barbecue, that would
come in handy,
wouldn't it? Yeah, but everybody had singed eyebrows instead of them. Yeah,
that's so good.
I want to talk about your, your motion picture, video drama. And yes, ma'am.
And we'll do that. Uh,
Deborah Harry and I will be right back folks. Deborah Harry, of course. And, um,
the name of the motion picture is Video Drone. Before we, we have a little of
that,
we're going to take a look at you. You're a wrestling fan, aren't you? Yes. Yes.
Big wrestling fan.
Well, Chris is, he got me started. Chris being? My, uh, paramour, my partner in
crime
and other things. You would give the rest of his name. Chris Stein. Yeah. Oh,
I'm sorry. Well, folks may not know. Is that necessary? I thought everyone knew.
I mean,
so you two, you watch wrestling? Yeah, we watch wrestling. Um,
well, we watched from this New York and there's Atlanta and where do you think
the better caliber
of wrestlers come from Atlanta or New York? Well, uh, we like the Atlanta show
because it's a little bit,
uh, funkier and they get, they get, you know, more crazed. Uh huh. Yeah. And it's
not fixed. The
thing I like about wrestling. No, no, no, no. Not fixed. And the matches are so
evenly, you know. Yeah.
Yeah. And it's, uh, yeah, it's very exciting. If there's one thing you can
still believe in,
in this country, it's wrestling. I don't care if the economy goes to hell
completely. Give me wrestling
any day. You always, you know how it's been, where it's going, you know. Have
you, now have you ever had,
you know, they have, uh, women wrestling, of course. You ever entertain
thoughts of that?
Uh, no, I'm not big enough. Yeah. Okay. You have to be an Amazon for that. Well,
yeah. Yeah. Uh,
all right. Now, uh, on to Videodrome. Okay. Tell me about this. Next. Tell me
about this and,
and what we're going to see. Uh, it's, uh, well, I don't know exactly what you're
going to see, I think,
but, um, it's about television and what happens when you watch a lot of it.
Okay. Uh, perhaps. This doesn't affect you. Negative, negative effects of
watching too much TV.
Yes. Well, it's an adventure story and sci-fi and it has a lot of McLuhan stuff
in IES. All right.
Et cetera. Okay. We'll take a look at that now. Uh, this is Deborah Harry in
Videodrome,
her newest motion picture release. Watch the monitors at home. Oh, that, uh,
that's pretty intriguing.
Yeah. Yeah. Uh, this looks like it was a lot of fun to do this movie. Yeah, it
was. Yeah. And,
uh, the gentleman in the scene? James Woods. Yeah. Nice guy to work with? Very
nice. Yeah. Very funny.
How so? Well, at the end of a scene, he would just, um, do a quick take, you
know, take his pants off or
something. I don't know. Oh, yeah. What a humorist. Uh, I'm, I'm, I'm pleased.
This looks like it'd be a
real neat thing to go see and I'm, uh, I'm pleased to meet you. I've been a fan
of your work for a long
time. Thank you. Thank you very much. Deborah Harry, ladies and gentlemen. We'll
be back right after this.
