our first guest is uh 17 years old isn't that remarkable 17 years i'm like a
hundred
when i was 17 i had a paper i had a paper i had a paper route uh she has sold
more than 15 million
records oh my goodness this is her brand new cd entitled i can't be tamed which
will be available
on june 21st ladies and gentlemen here's the lovely the talented miley cyrus
nice to meet you
welcome to the show thank you nice to meet you yeah thanks you know i think of
you as a kid but
uh you're more than a kid but you are a kid right yes tell me some kid things
that you do has has
the the kid part of you gone or is it still there um no i i'm still a kid i
still do good thing i think
i i said something the other day like in an interview and i was talking i was
like for anyone
that says you know she's growing up too quick doesn't know me personally
because you know i am
an entertainer and my show is you know mature for what i do in concert whatever
but as my normal
self i'm pretty crazy my mom was just yelling at me a little while ago so it's
all good what was she
yelling at you well actually no you know what's weird because i was late but it
was i was dreaming
of her yelling at me and it was really weird madonna was yelling at me and my
mom was yelling at me
yeah and then my mom was really yelling at me in real life to wake up so i was
like is this
a dream or is this weird i was like this is really weird because my mom's
yelling at me in both
real life and my dream you know what else is weird madonna has actually yelled
at me good actually
yelled at me not a dream at all in my dream i was happy i was like mom madonna
was yelling at me and
she's like good you deserve to get yelled at you're a brat and then she was
like wake up you got 10
minutes let's go and then i was like confused yeah so yeah like my impression
of my mom my mom doesn't
talk anything like that that's all right we don't care um well uh uh what do
you want to talk about
i'm sure you're tired of talking about how you uh this tremendous career began
and and i know that
you used to run out on stage when your father uh would be performing in concert
what what led up to
that what what you you were you're always singing around the house that kind of
thing yeah well i have
uh a little brother who's just like a year younger what's his name brazen yeah
so brazen yeah like
brazen and my dad wanted to name him cochise after an indian and because my dad's
obsessed with uh
indians and so my mom wanted to name him brazen my brother was like great i
went from dairy to a
dried fruit so my brother's always like i hate my parents i hate my parents but
i like his name because
it actually means courage so that's kind of cool but anyways enough about my
brother it's about me and
my brother so i would make my brother listen to me sing all the time and then i
would escape from
my nanny and go sing at my dad's concerts and what was it always going to be a
country music was that
there's no no question about that that was your dream to perform country music
or just a popular
music altogether i kind of well when i was younger my dad you know obviously
when i was around a lot
of country singers and whatever so that's what was more available to me but i
just started getting
into well when i got hannah montana it was more pop-based music and that's kind
of what i fell in love
with when you were a kid other than your father who did you look up to in the
world of music
popular music country music whatever i loved i was always a big johnny cash fan
from my dad but then
my dad always played things like joan jett which i love and still love so he
kind of played that kind
of stuff and then i remember going to buy my very first cd which was like britney
spears hit me baby
one more time then i was like oh i like pop music and i started getting into
pop music and like you
know my mom always had me a dance so that's what i always cheered to and danced
to and all that but
i kind of like doing a mixture of both so a little bit of our lives are so
similar i can't get over
are they yes good especially the early years very similar uh backgrounds yeah
uh now tell me about this because you're a kid and uh i know you're a kid uh so
you probably uh
twitter and stuff right no you don't twitter i hate twitter really sorry yeah
because everybody
hates me too but it's all good everybody's trying to get me to to start twittering
and and i don't
know what to say well no you already have a show so you don't need a twitter
see that's what i think
that's what i think yes you already have a show you have a show you got it you
got it thank you
what kind of things would you twitter when you i mean in my case it would be oh
i think i'm having
chest pains nobody nobody nobody wants that for a little while and uh the
things that i look back
and write like i someone was making fun of me and some skit the other day where
it was like
i lost my lucky bracelet two minutes later woohoo i found my lucky bracelet
like oh my god can i think
of something a little more interesting but it was just but that's what it is
isn't that isn't that
stupid because i'm like you can't complain about like oh i don't have a private
life and i'm so upset
paparazzi you're following me exactly you're gonna tell them where you're going
like yeah paparazzi's
gonna find you when you say like i'm at mcdonald's they're gonna be there but
see i it's just sitting
here talking to you uh you don't seem like a 17 year old you see you seem like
you have matured
through the process of performing as a kid you've you've grown up yeah i think
well and one wonders
and i'll ask the question again too quickly perhaps anything you miss about a
childhood that you
lost have you lost a childhood i don't think so i've gone through awesome you
know awesome things and
i've gotten to perform and do what i love so for me that's what i've always
wanted to do are you
are you looking for the warmth the spotlight can't provide no where do you find
such things
i don't know look at this here is the crowd uh when you were coming into the
theater earlier
today a lot of folks out there huge crowd look at this we're all excited to see
you wait a minute
it's alan kalter i think our announcer i'm sorry about that now uh you're not
you're not married i
know you're not married 17 you don't want to be married are you married you're
not married no i'm
not married dating anybody you're dating yeah i have a boyfriend what's he do
what's his deal he's an
actor so is he like on tv or in films and stuff yeah he was in the last song
with me oh yeah yeah he
well what's the kid's name you know liam liam yeah but i don't know it's kind
of easy to fall in love
with someone on nicholas sparksman because the lines are like kind of perfect
and someone asked
me like our favorite date ever and i said it and then i was like that was
scripted so i don't know
if that counts but it was pretty cool the first day but yeah so so you
represent a popular culture
i mean you really there's a handful of people that represent like before you
came on the show you'd never
heard of me had you no well i think i think my like my mammy watches you just
kidding no just kidding
i've heard of you yeah of course yeah
um now you you are you're not in school are you in school you got to be in
school i'm home schooled
oh well yeah like tour bus plane school whatever it is no no what kind of
courses do you take when
you're being you're being tutored right yeah well my favorite class is music
because
right obviously well you got that sure counting a school when i'm performing
but then i do right
now i was this morning i was learning about south africa because i'm trying to
plan a trip to go
there so my teachers didn't know that but i'm finishing 11th grade in like two
weeks and then
i'm starting 12th grade and just powering through is 12th grade that's a senior
in high school 12th
grade to be senior yeah so so you're finishing up with a junior so you get the
summer off you'll be
running around doing stuff working the touring while i'm shooting a movie so i'm
just gonna why i'm shooting a movie
since my teacher has to be there anyways we're just gonna are you getting a
quality education
i think that we i had this conversation i think that i get a good a great
education because i'm like
instead of being in a class of 20 people where some people may get it and some
people are still clueless
you don't have to move on just because the whole classes i can like focus and
also on things that
i think are really important now wait a minute i i take offense at that because
i was always the
clueless part of the class and see you know what i mean yeah they kept moving
on too quickly i don't
like that but you got through it so yeah yeah i did i got through it yeah you
don't smoke do you
no have you seen that smoking baby thing in the there's a baby that smokes yeah
we've got it right
here yeah where what the that's not real it's not real well how can that not be
real we got a kid
got a kid smoking is that like a movie or something well no it's the kid
smoking
huh yeah pick up some pampers and a carton of marlboros chain smoking now uh
you're you're a very lucky
young woman because your family is working with you in in your career and your
dream this is a dream
you're living a dream now uh say one day you get married and have children of
your own would you
want to replicate a similar thing for the kids um well i don't know because my
little sister she's
really wants to be an actress and singer and all that what's her she's she's
amazing and we talk
about her what's her name noah noah yeah but she's we've gotten her involved
she loves horses and
she loves dance so we're trying to keep her more in that kind of stuff because
i think you definitely
have to be super strong which she is but it's just really hard i think you do
you don't i don't i
don't think i've missed out on anything but i think it is it's hard you know
with you know comments
and growing up and i mean it's the kind of thing that's so hard that maybe only
a 17 year old could
do it really but yeah i mean you got to have that energy there's just a handful
of people that have
you know and you're one of them yeah you and i are probably two that's it you
and me yeah the only two
the two 17 year old girls that made it me and you so
that's right
all the 17 year old girls really look up to us don't they yeah it's an honor to
be where we are
so thank you yes uh well it's great fun to have you are you singing on the
program tonight yes oh that's
great tell us what you're singing something from the new thing single can't be
changed yeah and tell us
about the group you have with us is your regular band is that who's gonna and
you guys travel
together you and the band yeah how many people in the band i think there's like
seven of us seven
that's a good group it's a good group and they all friends uh you know
sometimes we have we we we all
get along well yeah yeah who's who select who selected the band did you select
them or your father
select them you both select them how do you pick a good band well i selected my
music director stacy who
i've been working with for a long time and he's here with me today he's also my
drummer so once we
found him and he was kind of like the perfect guy to work with us on the music
that's good and we
auditioned them and whatever but i just trusted what he said was right paul any
questions how long
have you had this band uh probably i think like four years five years four
years and do you ever just
lip sync in concert and not really sing live uh no you can youtube that's my
girl that youtube me
because half the comments are like she sounds like crap i'm like at least i'm
singing live
at least you're singing live that's the point absolutely god love miley cyrus
good for you
thank you so thank you so much nice to meet you thank you nice to meet you yeah
miley cyrus
