Well, you know, uh, where are we? Here we are. Regular viewers of this program
have been treated to a series of exclusive tours of New York City that are
virtually unavailable elsewhere, and tonight is no exception. Since our
demographics show that a high percentage of our viewers are gourmets, tonight
we are happy to bring you a tour of New York City's donut establishments. Watch
closely if you will.
Well, here we are at the Dream Donut and Coffee Shop, and we're talking with
one of the gentlemen who works here. Excuse me, sir, what is your name?
I'm Michael Ospreys.
Can you tell me how you got the name Dream Donut and Coffee Shop?
Well, when we bought the place, the Dream Donut Shop was on our side.
Do you find that people actually have dreams about donuts?
Yeah, some of them, they have dreams.
How many donuts a day should a person eat?
In my opinion, they should eat a lot, no?
Because we only saw them.
But me, I don't eat much. I'm watching my diet.
Can you give me an idea of the nutritional value of a donut breakfast, say,
half a dozen donuts and coffee?
Yeah, about that much, but half a dozen and a coffee.
And that would be a good, solid way to start the day?
That's all, yeah.
You start your day that way?
I don't start my day that way.
If I start my day that way, that way, it would be 300 pounds.
You have the world's best coffee here, we know.
Where did you get that recipe?
It's a kind of gimmick, really, you know.
It's never been proven.
It's another stop of our tour of donut shops of New York City, and this is
Delicious Donuts, and this is the manager, and your name, sir, is?
Dimitrios Cholometis.
The first thing I noticed, of course, the name of the shop, Delicious Donuts.
How did you come up with that name?
Oh, it's Spurinan.
It's Spurinan.
You notice, in addition to the donuts, you have some veal dishes here.
You serve veal?
Yeah, some sandwich, hamburgers, whatever the people are in it, you know.
So, kind of a run-the-spectrum of gourmet dining here.
Yeah.
Tell me about the slogan, It's Always Donut Time.
What's the philosophy behind that?
Well, it means that all-the-time donuts.
What's the best amount for one person to eat every day?
You can have breakfast and lunch and dinner with donuts.
You have donuts all day long, if you like.
You know, you won't die.
Somebody coming into your shop here, how many donuts a day would you recommend
they eat?
Well, health-wise, you shouldn't have more than three donuts a day.
No tour of New York City's finest donut shops would be complete without a visit
to this location.
This is Yummy Donuts, and this gentleman, of course, the manager and the owner,
and your name is Nick.
Nick.
What is your last name?
Dallas.
Nick, tell us how you came up with the name Yummy Donuts.
It came from a nice-taste donut.
Yummy Donuts means taste nice, and that's where the name came from.
When you made your first donut, you ate it, and in your opinion, it was yummy.
Yes.
How many donuts a day should the average person eat?
How many?
I said two or three.
Every day?
Every day.
What do you have to offer that other donut places don't have?
Not much.
No tour of New York City would be complete without a stop at Fluffy Donuts.
This is Martha, the manager.
How did you get the name for the place?
Fluffy Donuts, because all the donuts are fluffy.
Oh, I see.
They're all fluffy.
How many donuts a day should a person eat?
About 150,000 a day.
And is there a better time of the day to eat a donut?
When's the best time?
The best time is Wednesday and Friday.
Wednesday and Friday.
Well, there you have it.
A tour of New York City's finest donut shops.
For my money, the donut appears to be the food of the future.
Do yourself a favor.
Get a couple of dozen of these babies.
Relax.
Put your feet up on the folks and enjoy the rest of the show.
Thank you.
Good night.
Drive safely.
Wednesday and Friday is your best bet for eating donuts.
We'll be right back with Ron Howard.
