thank you paul our next guest um stars on the critically acclaimed tv series
damages the
second season premiered earlier tonight on fx please welcome the lovely rose
burn thank you
welcome to the show happy new year how are you thank you happy new year the the
show it's you
it's glenn close who am i leaving out others ted danson oh ted danson of course
so uh what was it
like with glenn close i mean she's a tremendous actress she's marvelous i
believe she's been on
your show several times yeah um she's wonderful consummate professional lovely
woman very been
very welcoming is that intimidating or useful to work with somebody of that stature
um it can be a
bit of both at first i think i was a bit intimidated but now we've been at the
show for like two years
so yeah we have a good rapport right and you you uh on the show you don't seem
to be australian but
you are australian correct yes i am australian um but on the show i know i do
an american accent right
yes and is that is that hard to do because i i i couldn't uh i'd have to be
really drunk to do
an australian accent but is is it hard i mean i guess it's not hard uh well
maybe it is i don't know
it's um well we grew up with a lot of american television in australia so kind
of used to the
vernacular but i had a woman recently come up to me in my local coffee shop and
say oh my god i love
your show you're on damages you know i was like oh thank you that's um you know
yeah i was like oh
you know thank you that's very kind of you and she's like oh my god you're from
england and i said
i was like no no i'm from australia and that really confused me and where were
you born in australia
where yeah in new south wales in sydney yeah yeah but my parents um live in tasmania
now which is an
island um south off the mainland what is tasmania like i mean we only know what
i only know it as the
tasmanian devil yeah i know you know i've actually met a tasmanian devil yeah i
went to a animal
sanctuary recently and um there was some tasmanian devils and they make it what
exactly are they they're
really uh well they're they were in they're endangered species but they're um
they're kind of like a big
sort of like a rash i suppose yeah they make a really really strange noise wow
well i'm glad they're endangered then i'm giving them a bad name they're all
right they're just um
i don't actually actually think that means they're stressed out i just think it's
their natural
noise are they are they large animals um they're about that big yeah and uh and
in terms of uh where
where do you live in australia now you live right in sydney i grew up in sydney
in the inner city
yeah but i live actually i've been living in new york for about two years now
so wildly different
cities wildly different experiences yes yes but i have had a few animal
experiences here i've had um
some incidents with mice in mice yes mice i feel like you just get a mouse with
your apartment
is that like it's kind of like well if you're lucky yes you do depends on the
lease
depends on the length some throw in a mouse some don't i feel like you just get
one but you're sure
they're mice what are you suggesting could be rats i mean what did the super
the super told you they
were mice right well i've seen them i saw them both you know yeah yeah they're
very you know they're
quite cute really but people have told me in the city and by the way you'll
never get rid of them
will you they're there ever i mean i have those strange plugs that send out the
waves or whatever
that they don't work no does anyone like they don't work at all no no it's like
satellite radio for rodents
but the uh yeah they say that it's good that you have if you have mice because
that means likely you
don't have rats because if you had rats they would be eating the mice so you're
you're a lucky woman
it's certainly in in this regard thank you for me if i had no idea you're quite
welcome uh and and do
you do you uh how often do you go back to australia because it's like a 22 23
hour flight isn't it
yeah well i recently just went back um for the christmas holidays and it's yeah
it's like about
you know 24 hours door to door so it's really so you take off from los angeles
is that correct well
you go yeah from here to la and then from la to sydney so oh my goodness yeah
and is it non-stop from
l-a to sydney yeah that's like a 14-hour stretch so it's yeah it's quite yeah
by the time you get
off you just you've really been through something with the people on the plane
you know you're like
what's up how are you hey you know you remember everyone's faces it's like
form a community you really do you know and i was in coach so you really have a
sense of community
and coach yeah everyone's like this and it's like you can smell everything it's
quite feral
and and uh do long flights i mean i think you've just answered the question
they're troubling though
aren't they yeah they are i mean i i played a pilot in a film called sunshine
that danny boyle directed
a few years ago so i met a bunch of pilots which was should have been
comforting for me but they kind
of made me a little i don't know i still i i asked one pilot you know what's
like the worst thing that's
ever happened to you and he was they have a real coat of silence around them
and they don't kind of give
anything away and he's like oh that's easy and i was like what and he said oh
you know i was going from
canada to washington and you know i wanted the chicken but i had to have the
beef
like you know right right but but thank you thank you for that
but that's my back but you know i i think uh fortunately statistically that's
true
you talk to guys who get to attend 15 20 000 hours and generally not much goes
wrong not much goes wrong
that's true yeah yeah yeah knock on wood for everybody yeah the uh the show uh
premieres a
second season on fx and and people know i don't know where you get fx how do
you find it where do
you get the fx it's on a thing isn't it yeah well i think it's on the cable
yeah it's right there on
in the satellite it comes in yeah yeah yeah yeah uh people people love the show
uh and uh mostly
because of this woman well i don't want to hurt anybody's feelings but i mean
come on
i don't want to hurt anybody's feelings but i don't want to hurt anybody's
feelings but i don't want to
