i don't know how uh many of these we've done it's the uh it's the top 10 list
and we sit here oh no
wait a minute seriously it's no it's very very it's so it's so tedious night
after night and it's
hard to do and and we're not even sure if people uh but the question we get all
the time is yes
how do you guys do that how how do you guys do it and i never gave it a second
thought it's just
every night here at my desk so we did some research and we we put together a
little segment
and i think you're going to find this fascinating and it's the story of the top
10 list and so now
for once and for all it's a behind the scenes peak at how something a segment
like this uh year after
year is put together here and it's called the story of the late show top 10. i
hope you enjoy it watch
number 10 goodbye eggs benedict hello eggs newt the top 10 list a familiar part
of the late show for
many years but how is this comedy classic created each day first thing in the
morning the writers get
the assignment to work on top 10 topics because dave is very busy the topic is
selected by the building
engineer george clark you want to wrestle
next the writers brainstorm possible jokes how about something with president
truman how about the
kardashians don't be gillis this generally yields nothing usable now the real
work begins some jokes are
stolen from people on twitter other jokes are purchased from underpaid comedy
writers in india
three o'clock time for dave to review the jokes if dave's unavailable dave's
kitty makes some cuts
the props guy holding the fake cat paw the staff kangaroo is dispatched to run
jokes back and forth
between the writers and dave half an hour till the show and the writers need
more jokes luckily the
of the prisoners bust in to fill out the audience usually have some singers
showtime and it's another classic top 10 and the number one thing clams
and that's the story of the loop show top 10 list wow i had no idea i had i had
no idea so interesting
