Out there on 53rd Street, we are going to recreate a Civil War battle.
That's right.
It's the Battle of Cedar Creek.
I'm not familiar with it.
I don't know if it was pivotal in the conflict between the blue and the gray.
But it's the Battle of Cedar Creek.
It took place October 19, 1864, Middletown, Virginia.
Today's reenactment will consist of 46 soldiers, one cannon.
One cannon.
46 soldiers.
Yeah.
A 12-pound field howitzer and one horse.
One horse.
So I think you can tell where the money goes in something like this.
We can only give one cannon, one horse, that's it.
Now listen to this.
The Battle of Cedar Creek, the Confederates attacked the Union forces with
troops and artillery.
That's your cannon.
Despite being outnumbered, the Union troops were able to repel the Confederates.
This victory secured...
Oh, I was wrong.
This victory secured the Shenandoah Valley for the north.
Oh, so it was.
And we're going to have it reenacted.
Reenacted.
It's time now for tonight's Civil War reenactment.
It's the Battle of Cedar Creek.
It originally took place October 19, 1864, 138 years ago.
Uh-huh.
Wow.
138 years.
Now the objective, we're trying now to secure the Shenandoah Valley.
