this year our first guests listen to this paul our first guests made more money
than bruce
springsteen or frank sinatra put together what yeah that's that's right yes and
frank sinatra
putting starting this friday for three weeks they will be performing at radio
city musical
right across the street ladies and gentlemen please say hello to the masters of
the impossible
siegfried and roy
oh my goodness wow okay hi and and who is you have another one here it's siegfried
and and roy and
yes and red white and blue couldn't you figure that out and he's leaving okay
okay oh boy what do we
have here this is blue it's a male white tiger who has been born in japan on
our world tour oh really
and uh are they safe to play with yeah sure they are the americans oh now this
one seems a little skittish
i would rather he didn't i don't know okay that's all right okay yeah give me
another one that's right
just like gum chew one up spit it out uh and and uh i i see i i worry that this
he's going to do the
same thing so maybe maybe you guys since you know the animals could ah all
right everything's fine
will they be all right there well sure yeah sure okay fine i'll just i'll just
have a seat then that's
right just pretty comfortable how how is uh how is the big world tour going
well the world tour
was fantastic uh-huh uh-huh uh-huh it was 11 months in japan and oh no no no no
no no no no
life see now did i caution you guys are the animal experts did i say they're
going to topple off
no one can take him home you know they all belong to radio city music how old
are the little kitties
on the fourth of july or that's the name red white and blue are these rare
animals yes they are they're
actually the white tiger is already extinct in a while they're only a handful
in comparison to the panda
variable is like thousand two hundred around they're just a hundred around when
you guys are working
how many different jungle animals do you have on stage with you for the whole
show we have tigers lion
panthers leopards 27 exotic cats and of cats so 28 all together but we have a
lot more of two-legged cats
too i see which i feel safer with this guys yeah now i notice you have a little
a little uh thing there a
little like a little somebody got you there got caught shaving no was that done
by a cat well you
know linette chapelle the female lead in our show sometimes she's really tough
with me i see
but have you ever had any problems with the animals no uh actually uh i'm
pretty much in tune with them
and be having a good time then you will see our show at radio city music hall i
mean we are disappearing
we are reappearing we get shut out of cannons and but do you guys are you
experts in animal behavior do
you know how to work with them and train with us they're part of our family uh
we share everything
together uh it took us four 747s to actually to come back to new york really to
bring all of your
animals and all of the equipment for the 48 trucks from the airport right to
here 48 trucks so when people
go to see the show in radio city they're seeing all of that equipment packed
into that huge facility
over as you know david we performed after 20 years in las vegas since the first
time we went out we
left las vegas and we started in tokyo we performed uh for over a million in in
japan were the japanese
very uh excited about fantastic we had a great audience a great audience they
loved us and uh
not only the geisha girls went wild also madame butterfly i mean the whole
country was fantastic
and we brought a lot of good memories home for them the only thing what i don't
want to do anymore is
eating sushi no more no more that's it you know a good steak does it all right
and uh and and and when
we get back we're going to uh get any more animals well maybe not we'll be we'll
find out we'll find out
i'm i'm dave this is siegfried this is roy good uh now uh why did you guys uh
start working together
what what did you do before you were siegfried and roy well we have been uh in
the hotel business
and i was bartender i was on the ship steward on the ship and that's where we
met uh roy on the bremen
that's about 30 years ago and when we crossed the atlantic from bremerhaven to
new york and our first
thing was of course pure 88 walk up 48th street and walked into the radio city
musical we got very
excited and that dream started and and now after all these years now we are
there and and did you
travel on the road with this show and building it gradually and then you work
your way into las
vegas or did you start now first first of all we had an actor starting on the
on the ship and then
somebody saw us and made a command performance for prince renee monte carlo and
from there we went
to the leader in paris and then they needed paris somebody saw us again from
las vegas and give us
his three months contract and you went there and you've been there virtually
non-stop for 20 years
and it's like the big show to see in las vegas exactly it would be you wayne
newton and that would
be it right boy yes but for a long time he was like the big deal and now it's
you guys right well
i don't know we have some biggies in vegas i would say yeah but and you make
huge sums of money there
don't you who says so what do you you got i mean you i mean the jeez kitty
litter alone is going to
cost you millions right right that's the way to spend it yeah uh and and uh
what is what is the jungle
land that's where you live is that well they have a place where we live
together what is it called that's
what the people call the people of las vegas this is our home you know so we
share with the animals
because they're part of our family they're part of our surroundings and we
figure they should live
as good as we live what about the stench having all those cats in that place is
it
do you have a lot of property though it's about 58 acres and how many animals
we're all together 28
oh and an elephant you know but you might you must have a staff taking care of
them and vets and so
forth on call we have the best in the business and take very good care of the
animals that's the first
property i mean if you have a happy and a healthy animal you can perform for
full and that's what we
do here in our illusions we design the illusions basically around the
personality of the animal
so whatever they do they're very happy of doing well this was an amazing
illusion blows them the music
right at it you know i mean they think they have to act oh what i bought it to
paul
how did he get into that right uh and you're going to show us you have a trick
for us here well
listen um unfortunately your studio is so small you know so such a tiny studio
the elephant unfortunately it wouldn't fit in here but it wouldn't help you
anyway i have something much
better for you you know um my first trick the first trick what i did my first
attention what i get
from my father i want to show you and not only show you i think i'm going to
teach you the trick you
have a family at home you have friends and friends and family and so it happens
i have two salt shakers
salt shakers salt recently stolen that's right okay even the price tag is on
now what you do is um salt is
always in ancient time it was always used okay a little blood here i'm sorry
man what is going on
here where did that come from where did you use that use that put it in your uh
your hands just like
there and you push this over a little over yes you know that keeps all the evil
spirit away
not a minute too soon all the evil
okay this for rehearsal put your salt shaker in your right hand okay just like
this okay and pour the
salt in your left left fist okay just like this no no like this fist okay like
that okay then you put the
shake on the table now will a tiger not not leaping in here okay that's enough
that's enough that's
enough of course blood pressure and all you have to be very careful then you
make a magic movement
just like this you blow against it and the salt of course is disappeared that's
right
of course the salt is disappeared wow all right now what you do is
what you do of course the salt you can bring it back right from there one two
three oh my gosh there
you go unbelievable that's the kind of thing you'll see on the great stage at
radio city music
that's my first trick i get my first attention from my father and the first
time he said how did you do
that it's very simple how you do it right okay when you pour the salt in your
left fist just do it again
all right all right all right like that okay just like this paul can you
illustrate a running salt
please running salt okay when you make the magic movement magic moment okay and
you blow against it
right the only thing what you have to do just push the salt in your left sleeve
just like this simple
right goes down your sleeve yeah but watch out don't hold your arm too high
because then the salt runs
down here and it comes out in the other side
