You know, when Eddie Money began work on this album right here entitled Can't
Hold Back,
there was only one person he wanted to sing with him on the cut, Take Me Home
Tonight.
That's right, it was me.
No, no, no.
It was the legendary Ronnie Spector.
And here tonight, singing that song, it's a pleasure to welcome Eddie Money and
Ronnie Spector.
Eddie!
One, two, one, two, three, four.
Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I feel a hunger, it's a hunger.
Tries to keep up in a waking night.
My only answer, I shouldn't wonder, what I feel with my appetite.
With all the power you release it, it isn't safe to understand the streets of
love.
Anticipation's rolling through me, it's fine, it can't turn its engine on.
Take me home tonight, I don't let you go to see the light.
Take me home tonight, listen honey, just like Ronnie said.
Be my little baby, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, ah, I can't frighten, ain't
wanna stop this, I can't light, I hate to sleep alone, I need some company, a
dirty angel, so I wanna call when the police blow, I can feel you breathe, I
can feel your heartbeat faster.
Take me home tonight, I don't wanna let you go till you see the light, take me
home tonight, listen on me just like Ronnie say, be my little baby, be my
little baby.
Just like Ronnie said. Just like Ronnie said. Be my little baby. Baby my
darling. I feel a hunger. It's a hunger.
Take me home tonight. I don't want to let you go till you see the light. Take
me home tonight. Missing on you just like Ronnie said. Take me home tonight. I
don't want to let you go till you see the light.
Take me home tonight. Missing on you just like Ronnie said. Take me home
tonight. I don't want to let you go till you see the light. Take me home
tonight. Missing on you just like Ronnie said. Just like Ronnie said.
Be my little baby. I'm going to be. I'm going to be, baby. Be my baby. Be my
darling.
Yeah. Ronnie. Hi. Nice to see you. How are you doing? Great. You look terrific.
Eddie. Eddie, how are you? Yes, sir. Thank you. Now we're getting somewhere.
Nice to see you guys. What do I do with the microphone? I'll take it. All right.
Is that your own or one of NBC's? This is yours. All right. Then we'll turn
that in at the end of the show. Okay. Great song. How did this happen? How did
this come together?
Richie Zito, my producer, gave it to me and it was take me home tonight. And I
thought it was kind of silly, kind of like Brian Highland singing Itsy Bitsy
Teenie Lee Yellow Polkadot Bikini. I feel a little funny. I'm married now and
take me home tonight. I just wasn't working. As a matter of fact, my wife is
singing the part on stage with me when we do it live. And I say after she does
it, I go, you know, she keeps a beautiful house. You know, Ronnie does a
beautiful house.
That's very nice of you. So she has your complete support in the career then.
Yes, she does.
But the song originally wasn't designed for Ronnie to be singing.
The song was written in L.A. by some guy with Shade Zone ordering cocktails. We
don't know really where it came from.
But it turned out pretty good. And we had Martha Davis from Martha and Motels
who was also produced by Richie Zito doing it.
Richie Zito is terrific, isn't he?
Yeah, he's a sweetheart.
He's doing my album now.
It's fantastic.
And a couple of...
So, but how did you get around including Ronnie in it?
Well, it's just like Ronnie sang in the demo. And I said, well, why don't we
get Ronnie Spector? And they said, well, she's probably unavailable and stuff
like that. So I called her. They said, she's probably really busy, you know? So
I called her. I said, Ronnie, what are you doing? She says, the dishes. I said,
you want to come out? You want to come out and sing on it? And since then, we've
hosted MTV together. And we've had a lot of fun.
So are you going to travel together? Is that a possibility?
I'm trying to get her. Well, I tried to get her to come to Bakersfield, but no,
she wouldn't. But she's going to come to L.A. with us and hopefully do Northern
California. And here we are in New York together.
Yeah, that'd be a lot of fun, I would think. How old were you when you first
sang the song, when it was first recorded?
Oh, originally 16.
Oh, 16.
And how did you find the song in those days?
Oh, in those days.
Where did it come from?
Jeff Barry, Carole King. It was just a bunch of great writers in those days.
And it fit my voice.
Nice to see you again. And your family has increased since we last saw, hasn't
it?
Yeah, a two-year-old and a three-year-old.
The last time I was on your show, I was pregnant. I said, I didn't even notice
it.
Nobody noticed it, no.
Well, seven months. I said, boy, Dave must be blind or what?
I have a lot of personal problems. We'll be right back.
Okay, Eddie Money can't hold back. Richie Zito, by the way, produced this one.
My thanks to everybody who is here tonight, Ronnie Spector, Eddie Money, and
Martin Mall.
We'll see you Monday with a lot of interesting folks.
Have a good weekend. Good night, everybody.
Joe, I'm glad you had a great off-season.
But now it's time to get back to work.
Showtime!
You do everything in those shoes?
Everything.
The odds say you should three-peat this year.
No doubt about it.
Go for it, Joe. This is a chance of a lifetime.
Keep going.
Who's stopping?
Now I bet you're going to show me a new way to pass that thing.
Joe, there's no way they can stop this.
Thanks.
Unstoppable.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
