We've been on the air, uh, like 16 years.
And if you watch the show regularly, you know that what we do,
like once a week, twice a week, whatever we can do,
we go out of the theater here, out onto the streets of New York City
or out to New Jersey or into Connecticut with a videotape crew.
And wherever we go, we've done it in Los Angeles, we did it in London,
we did it in San Francisco and Chicago and Miami.
And we just kind of go out with the videotape team
to sort of give you the feel of other things going on around the city.
Many, many times these things turn out remarkably well, don't you think, Paul?
Very often, yeah.
Against undefinable, undeniable odds, they turn out pretty well
because we're just going out to see what we can do.
Occasionally, and it's happened a few times,
when we go out with an idea, uh, you know, it doesn't work very well.
And in fact, you know, it doesn't really work at all.
Well, we had an idea last week since it's fall.
We were going to go out of the city and just go door to door,
knocking on doors, asking people if it was all right
if I, me, Dave, raked the leaves in their yard.
It sounds like a great idea, doesn't it?
Sounds like a...
All right.
Well, uh, I'd be lying to you if I said this turned out great.
It didn't turn out great at all.
And in fact, it's, you know, it may not have turned out at all.
But the important thing is we captured every scintillating moment on videotape.
Here it is, an idea that just don't go nowhere.
There's no business like show business, like no business I know.
There's no business like show business, like no business I know.
Everything about it is appealing.

Nowhere could you get that happy feeling.
When you are stealing.
When you are stealing.
When you are stealing.
When you are stealing.
When you are stealing.
Yeah.
You want to try one?
Yeah.
You want to try one?
Sure.
Don't worry about it.
There's nobody going to be home.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
Here we go.
Okay.
I got to watch where I'm going, Joe.
Careful.
You are a very attractive man, Joe.
There's no bigger place to be home.
I will give you $100 as you answer the door.
Yeah.
Everyone in town is dead.
They smile when they are long.
I'm going to try some of that MTV junk.
Okay.
We're counting down the hits now.
NYPD, come out with your hands up.
Like no business.
Like show business.
Like no business.
Oh, hi.
How are you?
I'm Dave Letterman.
And we're going door to door today.
Asking people if it's all right if we rake your yard.
Would you mind?
I'll be happy to rake up the leaves.
You know what I'm saying?
Uh-huh.
Okay.
All right.
I know our work here is finished.
Let's go on with the show.
If you can.
That's all you can do.
That's right.
That's all you can do.
That's right.
