You know, ladies and gentlemen, Las Vegas has been called many things Sodom in
the sand,
Disneyland in the desert, Tucson with Kino, but after visiting some of its many
24-hour
wedding chapels, we think it might better be known as the capital of love.
All right, so we're now in the chapel. I thought I heard harps when we walked
in. Did you hear
that? They could have been. And how do you do? What is your name? I am Reverend
Kathy Freya. How many
folks do you have lined up today? We have at least a dozen that I know of.
Would you marry me? Would
you consider marrying me today? If you have someone to be married to and you
have a license. No, no,
I'm talking about you and me. Would I marry you? Yeah. I don't think I want to
get married today,
David. I'm going to give you my card, and if you change your mind, call me at
the hotel. All right,
thank you very much. All right, this must be the happy couple. Hi,
congratulations. Nice to see you.
What's your name? Laura. Laurie, congratulations. And you, sir, are... Charles.
Charles, and everything
go all right in there? Everything went fine. So now what are you going to do?
We're going to go have
our reception at the International House of Pancakes. Are you really? Yes. You're
having your reception
at the International House of Pancakes? Yeah. And then gambling after that? Gambling
after that. Party
down tonight. Now, if I came along, would you buy me pancakes? Sure. All right.
All right, well,
good luck, kids. Thank you. All my best at having their reception at the
International House of
Pancakes. Well, to each their own, huh? Yeah. What is this exactly? Get out of
here. All right.
We had some bikers one time that came in. There was... Motorcycle gang kind of
deal? Yeah. Yeah.
There was about 15 of them. They just came in from California, and they were
all sweaty, and they
came in, they were all liquored up. And the witness, his name was Killer. So I
was a little scared. I was in
here alone. You're lucky to be alive. Yeah, I know. All right, let's just go
inside. There's the
security system. Do you hear that? That's it. And what good marriage isn't
based on security?
It's the theme of the chapel. Come on in. Hi, how are you? I'm Dave Letterman.
Nice to see you. My name is
Wilma. Wilma, how are you? And what do you do here? Well, I do everything but
marry them. And what all do you have
here? What kind of stuff can I buy? The works.
Okay, yep. Another wedding chapel. This is the sweetheart desert bell, or is
that dessert bell? I was never
too good with vocabulary. It's a wedding chapel. Information, rings, photos,
florists, the whole thing.
We're going to go inside and see what they have to offer. Okay, so we'll go
inside and see how this is
different from any of the others. Always open, ring bell. Hi. Hi, how are you
doing? Nice to see you. We'd like to find out about the weddings.
Oh, it's not open right now. We're living here. Will you be open a little later
today?
No, we're living here. Like, it's not open anymore. You ever thought about
taking the sign down?
No. Yeah. Do you like living in there? Kind of. Yeah. Do you have anything to
eat? Yeah. Can we come in and
have lunch with you? No. And we, Kirk of the Heather, what does that mean? It's
a Scottish name. It stands for a little
church in the woods. So it's we meaning little Kirk church. O. Of. Of. Of. Of.
Of. Of. Of. Of. Of. Of. Of. The. The. Heather. We, we, a small church of the
Heather. Right. This is Penny Castro. Penny is a cocktail waitress at the
Imperial Palace and we met Penny yesterday. And so we're gonna, we're gonna
actually have a wedding right here at the, we, Kirk of the Heather. Do you know
what that means? We, Kirk of the Heather? No. Oh, it's all right. And, uh, uh,
we talked it over with a
guy earlier and, uh, uh, he's, he's gonna do it for us. He, he's, uh, on our
crew. He's been with us for a long, long time. He's our videotape operator, uh,
and, and a good friend of ours, George Banca. George, come on down.
Thanks, George. You're quite a sport. George, this is, uh, Penny Castro. You're,
uh, soon to be Mrs. And here we go.
All right, George and Penny. All right. We face each other and hold hands. And
I'd like for you just to look at each other because we're going to celebrate
the love you two have for each other.
And life. Yeah. Kids, go ahead. Enjoy yourselves. Thank you, guys. Bye-bye. Wow,
this was fun.
