My son and I had an evening planned where we were going to watch one of those
DVDs.
They're like CDs, but they're not. They light up.
So here's what it was. First, it was going to be Herbie the Love Bug.
Well, we didn't have a copy of Herbie the Love Bug.
So then he thought, okay, let's watch something called Snowman.
I don't know what Snowman is.
And I said, is it Frosty the Snowman?
And he says, no, but it's a lot like Frosty.
Right.
Okay.
I got to tell you, I'm not looking forward to something a lot like Frosty, but
that's...
So we put it in the machine.
And you may not know it by looking at me, but I know nothing about technology,
honestly.
I got a clock radio to me that's pushing the envelope.
That's enough, yeah.
So we slide the disc in and we settle back.
He hops into bed now and we're going to watch Snowman.
It's a lot like Frosty.
For a brief moment, the thing turns on.
And then that's it.
That's all we got out of the machine.
I can't turn it off because it's already off.
I can't turn it on.
Right.
And what it has done, as you know, it's like one of those giant snakes down in
Brazil where
periodically you see that it's swallowed a cow.
Yeah.
Anaconda or something.
Yes, yes.
And they have to, again, the kids get out of school to go see them hack the cow
out of the snake.
Things are different in South America.
So now it's got our copy of The Snowman.
That's going to be our evening's entertainment.
And I can't get it out.
I can't get it to light up.
It's swallowed the damn disc.
So as you know, with a six-year-old, the clock is always ticking on patience.
How patient will the child be that daddy's a dumbass?
So I said, can you go upstairs and just bring me down like a butter knife?
And I said, okay.
So he runs upstairs, comes back down to the knife.
And so now, you know, I'm crying.
And then I think, I better unplug this bastard because sure as hell I'm going
to be knocked
into Putnam County.
Okay, so I unplug everything.
And now I have bent the knife.
The knife is now, now I'm really, I'm really just, I'm crazy.
And I said two things.
I said, Harry, go get me a hammer and step out of the room.
So.
He brings me the hammer.
He goes to the far corner of the room, goes to his new, goes to a neutral
corner.
Neutral corner.
I, I take the device out.
I put it on a solid level surface and I just beat the crap out of the room.
It explodes and there's stuff flying everywhere.
I pull the son of a bitch open.
I stick my hand down in there and there's all this copper imprinting wiring sodden.
Battering junk.
And down shifted off to the corner of the box is the, the, the DVD.
So I get it out of there.
And of course it's all bent and scarred up from the hammer blows.
So now I realize that my six-year-old son has seen daddy behave this way, you
know, and,
and, and typically I, you know, those were the old days.
I used to do that all the time.
Oh, but I, I haven't done it in a long time.
I just couldn't stand it anymore that this damn thing was getting in the way of
what we
were going to do for the evening.
Like that.
Yeah.
Uh, so, and so now, uh, Harry gets the vacuum cleaner and he's, he's helping.
He said, well, look at all this stuff.
Well, now we know what they look like inside.
Uh, and, and so we get everything put away and he, uh, I said, now, I said, I'm
so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
I, I, I shouldn't behave that way.
And I'm so sorry.
I behaved that way in front of you.
And he says, it was kind of cool.
He says, it was like a maniac show.
And so it was just like a maniac show.
So we got us another DVD player and watched Monsters, Inc.
Hey, okay.
All right.
