Our next guest is quickly establishing herself as one of the most talented
young actresses ever.
She has...
I don't know.
She has earned critical acclaim for her performances in the motion picture
Heavy
and in a new film which I saw this afternoon, Stealing Beauty.
It's open Friday.
Ladies and gentlemen, here's the lovely Liv Tyler.
Liv Tyler, ladies and gentlemen.
Just a little gift from me, Liv?
Yes.
Thank you very much.
This is very, very thoughtful of you.
You know, not all of our guests bring me gifts, but I encourage it.
I wish they would, you know, bring me gifts.
And how does that make you feel?
You have your father's music kind of plays you on with Paul.
Is it nice, isn't it?
Oh, my God.
Was that Aerosmith?
I wasn't even listening.
Well, I'm kidding.
Hi, hi, hi.
Yeah.
Can I ask how old you are?
I'm 18.
You're 18.
You're just a kid, aren't you?
How long have you been an actress, as Marla Trump says?
Um, about three years now.
Marla Trump, for some reason, pronounces the word actress.
Instead of...
At-ress.
I don't know why.
You'd think with all that dough, she'd have some dental work.
But I don't know.
Oh, my God.
Tell us about your experience.
You were...
Now, this movie this afternoon is a heartbreaking little film.
Did you see it?
Yeah, it's beautiful stuff.
It was shot...
It looks like it was shot in and around Italy, of course.
And tell me about that experience.
Was that fun?
Oh, it was beautiful and wonderful.
How long were you there?
Like three months.
It was a really nice long time.
What part of Italy?
It was in Tuscany and Siena.
It's beautiful there, isn't it?
Yeah.
Absolutely.
The light.
Do you like the light?
There's something different about the light.
What is it about the light there?
I have no idea.
But it's beautiful.
It's just everything.
And the cast and crew kind of lived there as a...
Yeah, I mean, the house where we shot was actually pretty much gutted.
And it was an old abandoned farmhouse.
And they fixed it up for the movie.
So everybody's dressing rooms were upstairs and stuff.
And we shared bathroom and brushed our teeth.
But you're just a kid.
You're just a kid.
Come on.
What?
Well, you're just a kid.
Did you go to high school?
Have you been to high school?
Do you have a degree?
Yes, well, I have a...
You have a GED.
Is that what you have?
No, I graduated from high school.
You actually graduated.
Okay.
I did.
Did you get good grades?
I saw my teacher yesterday.
Yeah, really?
Thank you.
But here's your dad.
Look at this.
It's dad.
Yes, it's rock and roll dad.
Oh, my God.
Cover that part up.
Hey, would you like to make something with the hot glue guns?
What is this?
What do you have?
Can I glue myself to you?
What do I do?
Oh, well, now...
Okay, well, we'll just cover up that little...
Glue something on dad.
Put a shirt on dad.
Yeah, glue dad.
Put something on that part.
Will he get mad at me?
Is that vulgar?
I don't know.
I'm vulgar.
There, see?
We're...
I'm stuck.
And I have the feeling that's not the first time he's had hot glue there.
Oh, what do I know?
I know what I know.
Very funny.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
So in the movie, Jeremy Irons is in the film?
Yes.
And he is kind of your Svengali, your mentor, your guide, something like that?
Um, yeah.
No, he's a number of things.
Tell the folks what the film's about.
Oh, my God.
It starts out with me.
I go to Italy to visit old family friends of my mother.
And my mother's passed away.
And it's a coming-of-age story.
Coming-of-age story.
And they're sending you there to have your...
Like portrait.
To have your portrait made.
And, of course, it's that moment in a young girl's life when, you know, you
have your...
It gets deflowered.
Oh, really?
It gets deflowered?
Well, how lovely.
I was thinking more along the lines of, you know, you're getting your driver's
license.
But it just depends on which branch of the DMV you go to.
You know what I'm saying?
You know what I'm saying?
Just a model.
There you go.
Now, you know you're just a kid.
You understand you're just a kid.
So can you have, like, a normal kid existence now or no?
Absolutely.
Yeah, what's it like for the summer?
What are you doing this summer?
Oh, my God.
I've just finished working, like, last week.
So I just feel so happy to be back in New York.
And...
You make your home here?
You live here?
Oh, yeah.
I grew up in Maine.
But I was born here and raised here pretty much half of my life.
Well, you know, you're a lovely woman.
Thank you.
You're a lovely woman.
And I think you're going to have an amazing career.
A very long, successful, big-time, big-shot career.
And I'll remember the night that you brought me these bubblegum cigars.
Oh, a note in there?
A note, yeah.
I don't know if you can get in there.
Yeah, fortunately, I can get in there because I have a putty knife.
Oh.
Thank you very much.
Is that right there?
Yeah, I'll get the note.
Look at that.
Beautiful, ladies and gentlemen.
Contraband, right there.
Nice to see you, Liv.
Good luck with the film.
It opens when stealing beauty...
I have no idea.
This week, sometimes.
It's Friday, as a matter of fact.
Yes, Liv Tyler.
We'll be right back to cook.
