Paul, are you excited about the Super Bowl?
I certainly am excited about the Super Bowl.
Who are you rooting for?
Well, see, that for me is difficult because whoever I want to win,
the people in the other team's city automatically, you know, hate me.
For example, if I want the Bengals to win,
then everybody in San Francisco is upset with me.
If I want San Francisco to win, then everybody in Cincinnati is upset with me.
So it's really no point in me even picking a favorite here.
Well, look at it this way.
There are about 3 million people in San Francisco, metropolitan area, I would
say, right?
There's about 1.5 million people in Cincinnati.
Yeah.
Obviously, you'll alienate fewer people if you root for San Francisco.
Okay, great.
All right, so there, I'm for the 49ers.
Go 49ers!
There you go.
All right, 49ers.
Look forward to that.
I hope it's a big victory for the 49ers.
Our next guest, what, Sid?
Wait a minute, Dave.
Approximately half the people in the San Francisco metropolitan area are still
fans of the Raiders.
Right, so?
Whereas, dig it, Cincinnati has had only the one NFL team since 68, and they're
completely dedicated to it.
Yeah, so what you're saying is the number of Bengals fans is about the same,
really, as the number of 49ers fans,
despite the fact that San Francisco is a larger city than Cincinnati.
Is that what you're...
Morty, what do you think of this?
Dave, I think we should look at the, you know, where the celebrities we book
for the show are from.
Born in San Francisco are Tom Hanks, Lisa Bonet, and Clint Eastwood.
From Cincinnati, we've had Marge Schott, who's the owner of the Reds.
Yeah, so what you're saying, Morty, then, it's pretty much a dead heat there,
huh?
Pretty much.
With a little edge, maybe, to San Francisco.
Yeah, well, you know, Procter & Gamble and the U.S. Playing Card Company is
from...
They're both from San Francisco, and, of course, from Cincinnati, I'm sorry,
and Rice-A-Roni, of course, is from San Francisco.
So, what does that have to do with anything? I don't get that. What does that
mean?
Well, Dave, you've seen the opening of the show.
The opening of the show? No, I'm usually backstage. I haven't seen the opening
of the show.
Roll the opening of the show.
From New York, it's Late Night with David Letterman.
Brought to you by Procter & Gamble.
The U.S. Playing Card Company.
And Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat.
I don't know, Paul, it's still a tough call, but how about Morty's acting?
Maybe...
I'll tell you what, maybe I should just pick the probable winner, which I think
is San Francisco.
They're favored by about seven points, so I'll pick San Francisco, because they're
the favorite, after all.
Yeah, but Dave, I don't think that would be a really popular move, because San
Francisco has already won two Super Bowls.
Right.
So, Cincinnati is the underdog, and you know how everyone loves an underdog.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's a good point, Anton.
All right, here's the solution.
I'll pull for San Francisco to win, but I'll also be rooting for the Bengals to
beat the point spread.
So, here's my official stand on the Super Bowl.
Go Bengals, don't lose by more than seven, all right?
Gosh, I wish I could have phoned that in.
Yeah.
