My first guest was one of the founding members and lead singer of a group
called The Go-Go's.
She is now out on her own, and this is her first solo album right here.
It's called Belinda. Please say hello to the woman of the same name, Belinda
Carlisle.
Hi. Nice to see you. How are you? Have a seat.
Boy, you look great.
You were, how long ago were you here? A year or so?
About a year and a half ago.
And at that point, you were still with the group, The Go-Go's.
Right.
And can you tell us what happened with the breakup? Anything? I know it's none
of our business, but...
It just got to be real boring.
How long had the group been together?
For eight years.
Yeah.
So we were together for one.
Was it one decision, or did everybody collectively make it?
No, it was sort of two people's decisions.
And who were those two people?
Charlotte and myself.
Oh. Oh, I see. So you guys just kind of, you walked.
We just kind of, yeah, we said, see you later.
Yeah. And everybody else is working and happy and...
Yeah. I don't really see anybody else, except for Charlotte. And I say hi to
Jane once in a while.
Yeah. You think there's still bad feelings?
Um, I don't know.
Yeah.
I just have no idea.
Well, not being in touch, of course, you wouldn't know, would you?
No, I wouldn't know. No.
So how is it different now, traveling? Because for eight years, you were an all-female
organization, and now you're with men and women in the group.
Is it a big difference for you?
Well, it's kind of weird, like on the bus. We can't exactly parade around and,
you know, what we used to.
And what exactly was that?
Well, you know, underwear and undershirts and that kind of thing.
So when the Go-Go's were out touring, I just want to make sure I have the
proper mental image of this.
Well...
Pretty much. You were just relaxed and very casual.
Yeah, very casual.
And now it's different.
You have to... Yeah, it's different.
Is it better now or better the other way?
It's, um...
It's better now, kind of.
Yeah, it is better now.
And also, you recently just got married?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yep, eloped.
You eloped?
Mm-hmm.
Now, where did you go to elope?
We eloped to Lake Tahoe, Caesar's Palace.
And a big wedding? Probably not.
You know, um, we hired a minister and hired a witness.
Mm-hmm.
And, uh...
You hired a witness?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah, and...
Why did you hire a witness?
We just didn't want anybody else to come up with us.
We wanted it to be real privates and not know anybody.
Yeah.
So we hired the witness and then, uh, gambled for four days.
So this is kind of an old-fashioned dream you've had for...
You got married, you rented a witness, and then you gambled for four days.
Yeah, that's really a throwback to the 18th century, isn't it?
Traditional, yeah.
Can you tell us who you married, or would you rather know?
Yeah, um, this guy named Morgan Mason.
Morgan Mason, yeah.
And, um...
What does he do?
He has a public relations business.
He represents, uh, corporations to the government.
He used to work for the government.
Oh, so a lot of kickbacks involved, right?
And he's producing movies, too.
And he's also producing movies.
So this guy is, uh, quite an operator.
Yeah, he's a very smart guy.
Yeah, yeah.
And, uh, what are you going to sing for us here in a minute?
Mad About You.
It's a new single.
Okay, from the album.
And we're going to do a commercial, and then when we come back, Belinda Carlisle
and our
band will be doing that for you, uh, right after this, folks.
Come on back.
Well, set.
Everybody ready?
Okay, now it's time for the song.
From the new album entitled Belinda, uh, featuring Belinda Carlisle, uh,
singing, uh, a single
from the album.
It's called Mad About You.
Here she is, Belinda Carlisle.
I'm mad about you.
You're mad about me, babe.
A couple of rules run wild.
And we push in the day, into the night time.
So mad between the two, we start to see.
Mad about you, mad about you, lost in your eyes, and a smile.
Mad about you, mad about you, you and I.
Something about you, right here beside me.
Touches the touch, part of me, like I can't believe.
We push in the night, into the day of time, watching the sky, the light of the
city's wings.
Mad about you, mad about you, lost in your eyes, and a smile.
Mad about me, mad about you, you and I.
Mad about you, what about you, lost in your eyes, and a smile.
You and I, mad about you, lost in your eyes, and a smile.
Mad about you, lost in your eyes, and a smile.
