we have a guy out there on 53rd oh my goodness i almost forgot this it wasn't
what a day for him
on the damn card can't believe it we'd do the whole show without the guy wouldn't
that be terrible
because man sorry you weren't on the card because the rehearsals forget about
it we have a guy out
there by the name of jay quinlan and jay quinlan is the godfather of freestyle
snowmobiling wow
grew up in alaska now lives in colorado he is the first to land a backflip in
snowmobile competition
and he is setting to become a commercial helicopter pilot he may be the one
that brings in the joke
i see it it's a good thing we have him let's go outside on the 53rd street hey
jay is that you my
friend nice to see you how are you how about this we actually got snow coming
down huh yeah it is i
think we might have brought it with us now will the snow help or hinder what
you're about to do here
tonight uh that's a good question i was hoping you might be able to answer i
don't know anything
about snowmobiles how fast do those things go uh anywhere up to 100 miles an
hour 100 miles an
hour oh my god and are they loud and noisy uh no they're pretty quiet actually
and when you have
them out in the wilderness do they frighten the animals oh absolutely not they're
animal friendly
they're environmentally friendly yeah i saw gail norton riding on one of those
things through
yellowstone a couple of weeks ago what was that all about i don't know i wasn't
i wasn't with her
yeah uh anyway it's 32 degrees outside humidity 98 barometric pressure is
steady that's good
now let me ask you this jay is the wind going to be a factor northeast at 17 is
that going to bother
you oh no i think we're good since we're in the city here in between all right
sir and visibility is
one mile and you're going to do several tricks for us tonight the ramp is 10
feet high six feet wide
you're going to land amount of snow 60 feet away and uh 25 speed of 45 miles an
hour to make that
jump is that about right that's about right okay and what is your first jump
going to be tonight jay
i'm going to give you a no-footed can for the first jump say that again please
uh no-footed can
a no-footed can yeah that's correct and what does that what does that mean
exactly i'll just throw both
legs and my body off to the left side of the sled and then about mount back on
and land now have you
ever been injured on the snowmobile a few times anything serious uh no nothing
we need to talk about all right
now listen jay as you're preparing for your jump i want you to do me a favor
keep one thing in mind
all right okay what's that in hollywood oscar is king
all right jay okay anytime you're ready go ahead take it away
here we go
it's gonna be exciting 53rd street snow getting on his snowmobile now he doesn't
look like he's warm
enough does he paul it's 32 degrees out there well i think he's so you know he
knows he's about to
lose his life yeah no no that's well i'm terrified of this you dress
appropriately i don't think temperature
he's fired up he's fired up let's watch it let's watch here we go here we go
yeah those those those
those would frighten the wildlife here we go no foot it can ladies gentlemen
very nice jay wow and then tonight you're also will you be able to do the back
flip for us tonight
nothing yeah oh sorry about that i was uh did the sled the sled didn't clear
out right and uh just
didn't get the right speed for that dave yeah that's what i was saying it just
didn't look quite
right right to me what do you mean it looks amazing what are you talking about
oh oh that was what
it was are you all right a little hard there on the tailbone oh yeah no no it's
all good next
time i think we're going to warm the sled out okay and you'll also be trying
the back flip later
tonight yes absolutely thank you very much have a couple of drinks we'll check
back in with you later
jake winland exciting right out there you know what it's like it's uh like
having the x game
right here on broadway i have a terrible feeling about this i don't know don't
please don't say
that ah i feel i've been here before i don't know no this is going to be fine
all right everything is
fine ah just relax jay are you out there again yeah i am now i it's totally you
mentioned it and
i didn't notice anything but apparently that trick wasn't executed the way you
would like to execute it
no that trick was not executed properly so what do you want to do i'll leave it
up to you do you want
to try that one again or you want to go on to something else yeah we'll go for
that again
hopefully the uh sled will be running okay and what should we look for jay
while you're doing this
trick uh something different other than that but that looked pretty good to me
but your feet come
off the pegs or whatever they're on is that right yeah that's correct okay so
we'll look for that
and uh do you see all those people standing behind you oh yeah would you do me
a favor just scream
at those folks to get the hell out of there no i can't come on come on all
right fire it up try it
again this is the no footed can once once more good luck godspeed we'll be in
here here we go
all right uh that snow is beautiful isn't it
very nice jay how about that one you felt better about that one yeah it helped
for me on machine
runs yeah take a look at this there it is oh there's the feet yes absolutely do
you know where
we got this snow we trucked it in from someplace you know where that came from
the uh snow came in from somewhere i don't know that's what i thought i i was
almost certain it
came in from somewhere and you have had to confirm let me go back out to jay
how you doing jay i'm doing
great you know we just saw that last one in a very dramatic slow motion and as
you were leaping through
the air we saw a beautiful shadow of you and the sled across the building it
was very it was mystical
actually do me a favor jay turn around you see that woman with the umbrella
behind you oh the umbrella
yes yeah tell her to get rid of the umbrella i'm going right now hey you got to
close the umbrella yeah
that's right close that umbrella oh it's just yeah yeah
and a boy are you ready to go jay oh yeah as long as you are yeah anytime what
is this one
going to be oh i'm going to go for like a saran wrap no hander for you saran
wrap no hander this
means nothing to me other than i get the no hands part all right the saran wrap
being what uh right
leg will come through the bars and then as i go back i will let go okay well by
god be careful all
right all right thank god we got that umbrella down
how'd you feel about that one jay
i think i waited a little jay how did you feel about that one i waited a little
long to let go
yeah i hear him slightly softly it doesn't make any difference if you hear him
well he said that's good news i guess i could i thought i could interpret for
you okay all right
is he going to try another one now is that right is that what's going to happen
jay quinlan are you
ready jay yeah i'm told that your microphone actually fell off in midair uh so
i apologize
for that inconvenience and you've got it reaffixed is that correct that's
correct okay and now you're
going to do the back flip that's yeah we're going for the back this is the one
that you're the first
ever to do this i wasn't the first ever i was second but uh first in
competition oh first in
competition this must be the first couple of times you try this must be scary
right yeah i learned a
lot yeah okay uh all right do you have to go any faster for this trick or not i
a little similar
speeds and pick it up on the ramp to get the rotation now now this guy in the
uh leather jacket with the
fleece the collar they seem to be dancing a minute ago just tell him no dancing
while you're in the
uh you can keep keep dancing
all right as you like jay okay all right so fire it up we're going to look at
the back flip anytime
you're ready here we go paul can you hear him yeah i could hear him paul can
hear you too jess
any words you can all hear him this will be the back flip oh boy yanks the cord
he's ready to go
the snow by the way is from eastern long island
i'm gonna look like long island snow
oh man oh man that is something talk about a heart stopper look at this here we
go there's the flip
oh man oh man oh man oh man yo did you did you nearly run out of ramp there jay
uh yeah i got i got a
little anxious on that one god that was beautiful though and everything's okay
yeah it's just a little
weird doing it with the snow like this and uh losing traction so i just wanted
to be confident i didn't
do what i did for you the first time well well as long as you're all right it
certainly looked beautiful
thank you very much jay quinlan ladies and gentlemen
