our first guest is an emmy winning uh actress uh starring on the very popular
television series
ugly betty and the season finale airs may 22nd please welcome the lovely america
ferrara how
you doing i'm good i'm good nice to see you welcome back thank you you're off
for the summer
right you don't have to work this summer yeah i have a couple weeks off what
are you going to do
i'm um preparing to move to new york city are you moving to new york city yeah
good for you the whole show is moving the whole show yeah you're originally
from california am i
correct originally from california so this is going to be a big change not just
for the show but for
you personally yeah you excited about it yeah i'm excited i'm a little nervous
too you know new yorkers
are really cool and you know i'm just a little nervous about how they're gonna
you know accept
the show and we'll be on the streets blocking the way and so you'll be shooting
the show actually on
the streets yeah and the show takes place in new york and before it was done
like sound stages yeah
yeah yeah which is you know they're like you get one day a year where you get
to have snow and you
know pay for the snow machine on that one day and that's it but now this is
great it really gives the
ads verisimilitude yeah it's gonna be great yeah and uh i don't know i don't
know what they're
laughing about but but uh no you shouldn't you shouldn't worry because new yorkers
will embrace
that and it's gonna be great well one of the first new yorkers i met was my
friend's grandma and
she's 95 and she's been living in the city for for i don't know 50 years or
something and the first
thing she said to me was i don't she's like i don't know why people watch your
show she's like
and i was like oh wow this is gonna be fun in new york so but she you know but
um did she does she
watch the show well no i guess not no she doesn't know why people watch the
show what's the matter
with her tell her to keep her mouth shut honestly you don't you don't need that
kind of abuse she's
really sweet i mean she's sweet i'm sure she's sweet doesn't sound i don't i
don't think we have
the evidence to prove that no but then you know but then she's like you're not
ugly and that was nice
so wow so that was the compliments just keep on coming yeah so uh now have you
have you spent much
time in the city i mean i guess visiting and you shoot a little here now we
shot the pilot in new
york and i was living here when the pilot came around and i was out here doing
um an off-broadway
play for six months oh what was the play it was called dog sees god it was kind
of a play on the
charlie brown characters and like charlie brown was in love with schroeder and
they were all grown
up and like kind of in high school and i played charlie brown's sister sally
and um i wore this crazy
wig with the big you know blonde updo and um they were just all messed up did
you enjoy it it was great
it was fun i mean the best part about it was like the hours like you don't have
to be at work till like
6 30 p.m so really yeah and so you don't have to wake up till like you know
whenever you want
like that's like so are you more or less just up all night after the show yeah
i mean because you know
you get used to sleeping in and then you gotta you're up so you have to fill
those hours with something
right so you're like well i guess i'll go and hang out you know if i have the
hours and what kind of
stuff did you do hanging out i mean are you are you are you old enough to be
doing that yes of course i'm
old enough yeah um um i don't know what you're saying i was doing but i don't
know i i'm not
you were the one who's saying you were you were doing things i mean asking what
i was just filling
the hours you know like sometimes we'd karaoke or ah karaoke yeah yeah sing and
yeah you know hang
out have fun it was it was good times can we it was no wait no you go to a
karaoke place and can you
drink do you drink or do you drink are you late are you old enough to drink i'm
i'm old enough yeah so
you go ahead what would you have to drink um i like a i don't know like a like
a like cosmo or
whatever all right cosmo what's in that is that like vodka i don't even know it's
just like what what
color is it it's like sometimes they're pink right i don't know like and is it
does it make your eyes
water when you when you drink it it's like no that's no it's a nicer one than
that it's a little easier
okay so how many of those do you have oh my god you're trying to get me in
trouble no no no no i mean
you know enough to go and i don't know enough to sing karaoke and have fun that's
what i'm getting
to how many of those does it take before karaoke seems like a good idea that's
what i'm trying to
get to right yeah yeah but i sometimes i don't even need alcohol to to sing
karaoke so it's it's at a
bar and they have a microphone they pass around you going up on stage you go up
on stage up on stage
okay so now do you remember like if we were in a karaoke place what song would
get you up on stage
well there's always like you know like summer lovin from grace everybody play
you know everyone
sings that one that's a karaoke classic right and um like you know last dance
and i will survive and
all of those karaoke classics those always get me these are like 70s kind of
songs yeah they're fun
it's just a good time and you project the words are on a screen so yeah yeah
and and and people cheer
when you're up there yeah it's fun or they'll sing along or or you don't even
you can't really even
you're you know you're not by that time you're not really you can't even hear
what the other people
because of the cosmos god it just sounds awful
i had a good time when i was here so i'm glad to be back now um hey
congratulations you were you
were out helping uh some campaigning you were doing who were you campaigning
with and for i was
campaigning with hillary for a long time good for you yeah and who were you
with i thought this
was interesting you were with uh her daughter chelsea chelsea and i did a lot
of um yeah campaigning
together and we did a lot of youth outreach and went to colleges and sometimes
we we'd like we'd go
anywhere young people were like we'd go to bars sometimes yeah tell me nobody
knows anything about
chelsea uh what is she like what does she do how does she wonderful she's an
incredible smart woman i
would guess incredibly intelligent smart wonderful i love you know i really
enjoyed meeting and and i
would guess people are happy to see her are kind of drawn to her she's very
seen i bet she's very
charismatic in a way she is she's wonderful but it was interesting because we
went and like knocked
like my first day there they're like oh you're gonna go and knock on doors with
chelsea and like
you know talk to people and so we're like i'm great right so we start knocking
on doors and you know
you're people get really excited at first they're like oh you know chelsea and
and and oh ugly betty
and and then and then they're like and then and they're like oh what are you
doing at my front
door and then they realize you're there to campaign and then they like slam the
door in your face and
you're like but wait like chelsea and ugly betty like thursdays eight o'clock
like you know a second
ago you couldn't be happier to see us right uh well good for you that's great
that you're involved in
the process and also the season finale is this the one with lindsay lowen on
the show yeah what happens
there you mean on the show yeah or on the um on the show yeah what does happen
there talking about in the
parking lot no no no no she was she was really wonderful and she was gracious
and showed up and
i was on time showed up there's no i really i don't mean to be smart or side
she was really great and
she was lovely and she's going to be back for five more episodes in the third
season here in new york
and you can see that may 22nd is that great that's lovely to see you
congratulations on moving to the
city it's america ferrara ladies and gentlemen
