welcome back
thank you i panicked a little bit i thought i had a hair clip left in my hair
no you look
even if you had a hair clip it would be all right you would look fantastic
thank you how
you doing okay how was your summer do you do stuff like a big star like you do
you do stuff
in the summer um we um we went to the galapagos islands this summer really you
and your family
yeah wow that's exciting and then they're located where so off the coast of
central america yeah off
the coast of ecuador and um you know it's one of those trips you have to plan
um a year ahead of
time because it's not a weekend kind of place no no it's it's it's a bit of a
journey yeah and
um we're just gonna run off to the galapagos for the weekend we're gonna go
down for brunch
and um and uh you know i don't i i mean i've been i've been pretty vocal about
that i don't like the water you don't like water no and um you don't like being
in it you don't i
mean you drink it yes i drink it and i and i take baths and um but i don't like
swimming in it
oh as a recreational medium it feels unnatural to to to submerge you know
underwater right it's not
you know we're not meant to do that when you were a child did your folks get
you to have your swimming
lessons did you have like a little inflatable pool i think they just threw me
in that could explain
things i don't know but um so yeah i mean it was incredible it's like going to
the ends of the earth
but you know where do you stay when you're there well on a boat and um
that was interesting and i had you know how if you have well you i don't know
if you you is if there's
something that makes you anxious like for some people it's for me it's a lot of
things but um
but you know making public appearances and doing you know and you have a
certain anxiety while in
anticipation of doing that well i had a year of anticipating this trip oh kind
of looking forward
to it with a bit of dread yes with a bit of dread and you know it's kind of
always there and um so
but i have i have to say the islands were spectacular but you you sleep for
eight days
on a boat and for eight nights i thought i was going to die because of what
because of the constant
motion because of the claustrophobic nature because the everything's wet and
gets rancid
because there's not a proper bathroom on the no i mean you know the
accommodations were fine i mean
there is there is a an an odor which is you know unpleasant but um but but that
is actually fine
with me no it's it's it's we were on this boat and it was beautiful to look at
but they made it look
like a sailboat and it really wasn't a sailboat what was well apparently this
is this is i i don't know
if this is a very interesting story it was it used to be it was an old cargo
ship that they decided to
make into a sailboat so they just put this enormous mast jutting up from the
middle and with these
sails that they never used well it sounds great it sounds fantastic though no
but at night but it
had no stabilizers oh no stabilizers so at night i mean literally i was like
this trying not to fall
out of my bed yeah but now you know i've spent some time on boats and and uh
and i have i get seasick
really you do yeah and and it's everything's fine and then are you a sick you
like to sail well i
thought i did yeah and and you're and one minute everything's fine and the next
minute you know
that your lips are vibrating you know that and then that's it and then it never
goes away till you get
off off the boat and it's horrifying it's horrible but but do you have a fear
of boats or do you just
get sick no i i and i i want to be very clear on one point i don't vomit ever
well when i was a kid
with the flu that kind of thing but on on boats when i get sick how it
manifests itself is this
vibrating lip thing can you demonstrate just like that and it never leaves and
it never leaves and it's
just horrible but sleeping on a boat is is i would think very easy i mean you
go right out because that
constant rocking of the no no it wasn't constant little rocking this was like
oh yeah all night long
and literally i i was nearly thrown out of bed what about the family did they
enjoy everyone else was
fine nobody else seemed to have the same kind of um you know intense did this
ruin the trip to the
galapagos no it didn't and i have to say it's a real tribute to how magnificent
it is during the day
because every night i would think i cannot i cannot do this one more night and
i would
scheme all night long while everyone else was sleeping and how i could get off
of this boat
wow wow that doesn't sound like i almost had it worked out the night before we
left but you were
just you're just going to like throw yourself over i had all kinds of abandoned
ship but you must have
seen the great wonders of nature yes like what kind of stuff well it's
incredible you see um you see
species that that are only there and it's you know it's where the you know the
theory of evolution all
started and you really see evolution you see um iguanas that swim which are
only there and um
what you walk onto these islands and it's um it's like walking onto their
kingdom and it's so humbling
and they're just everywhere they're they're just having babies and laying eggs
and they're not afraid
of you do they have a nice gift shop i don't i don't know i'm sorry i just don't
know what's the
matter but i just i don't know now tell us if you don't mind about some uh hollywood
acting stories
tell us some some early hollywood you looking for work uh audition hollywood
acting stories
oh do you do you do that is do people you go audition you go read for a part is
that still how it's
done um yes it is how it's done and um um i think the worst experience i had
auditioning um was when i
auditioned for scarface and um that was like your second film was that right
um my second sort of film that people saw yeah yeah
and um
so um anyway i went in and i auditioned and you know i the the the thing the
only thing prior to that that
anybody knew me from was grease too so i didn't you know come in you know
loaded with good baggage
oh come on and um grease too is a classic
yeah of sorts yeah and who's that who's at the audition who is there for the
reading well i met
with the casting director and then she thought i was okay enough to come back
and meet with um
brian de palma which i did and then and then he and then it was a very very
long auditioning process and
um um it went on for months and the longer that it went on i i i just got worse
and worse and it got
that's understandable though because the pressure kind of accumulates
exponentially each with each
visit yeah yeah yeah and you see actors i mean fear is your sort of your worst
enemy it just gets
a hold of you and you're done for so anyway i got so bad they just said you
know you just suck and you
know so it's not going to work for you so i was and by that point i was just
relieved because i just
couldn't take it anymore right and um a month goes by and they call me to come
in and do the screen
test i thought oh man no please they keep pulling me back so i go and at that
point things were so bad
i had nothing to lose fear was gone and i did this really good screen test and
i did this scene at the
restaurant and i broke dishes and they went flying and cut there's blood
everywhere wow wow and they're
checking me oh my god are you all right and they can't find any cuts on me and
we look over and i
and i thought oh this is great oh i'm a shoe-in now
um anyway i actually think that endeared me to him so um i think maybe that may
have actually what
got me the the torment that goes through that and then you finally get the job
the job is probably much
easier than the auditioning process um actually no really no it was kind of
tough yeah it was long it
was it was kind of yeah you know the subject matter and it was like you know i
was young and it was sort
of a lot of guys and well let's move on um let's talk about the film that opens
tomorrow white oleander
this is uh from the novel of the same name yes and and white oleander is a a
beautiful flower but deadly
poisonous is that the deal aha yeah and the story is uh well it's um uh sort of
a very um edgy uh coming
of age story of my daughter and um i unfortunately uh am not around um to help
her come of age
because i'm in prison right and um
and what what got you uh why are you in the pokey
oh okay um i murdered someone i see okay enough said uh and by the end she
comes and i don't see
her often and you're gonna show a clip right this is where okay and um i only
have very few minutes
to get her on track and and i think she subscribes to you got to be cool to be
kind dave all right
okay here we go michelle pfeiffer white oleander take a look it opens tomorrow
