Hi, it's the Barbara Gaines Show. I'm Barbara, this is Dave.
Hi, I'm Dave. Nice to be here. Thank you very much, Barbara. Tell them where we
are.
It's a special outside location show.
An undisclosed location.
That's exactly right.
You don't know where we are.
No.
We don't know where we are. It's undisclosed.
No, and if we do, we wouldn't tell.
Why are we here, Barbara?
We're here because, if you remember, we're giving away the Late Show Marquee,
which is right over here.
This was part of the exterior of the Ed Sullivan Theater for nearly 20 years.
And it turned out, a year or two ago, we realized we had this big hunk of
plastic with the Late Show sign on it,
and we don't know what to do with it, so we had a big giveaway, a big raffle, a
big drawing.
And what else?
We gave all the money to Habitat.
Well, how much did we make?
$116,000.
$116,000, of which I received half.
No, we're kidding.
No, you've got nothing.
So that was very wonderful.
Yeah, it goes to Habitat for Humanity, helping people with affordable housing,
building their own homes.
It's great and great fun, and we're proud to be affiliated.
So that's where the money goes.
Now, what about the activity today?
What are we doing?
We're going to put it in a truck and bring it to the winner.
No, Barbara and I are not putting it in the truck.
No, no, we are.
Look at me.
Heavy lifting?
No.
I don't think so.
No, my shoulder's pretty quick.
Unless you count my wallet.
Hey.
It's a raw day in April.
We're going to deliver it today to the winner of the big sign raffle giveaway
drawing, not fixed, investigated activity.
Oh, well, I'm going to say we're going to deliver it to the winner.
Yeah.
Whose name is Helen?
Or I shouldn't say Helen.
Well, no, you can say Helen.
That's why they named her Helen.
All right, men.
We're fine.
Come on in.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Good luck.
Don't hurt anybody.
Lift with your legs.
All right.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Let's get this junk out of here.
Hi.
Now we're here at Helen's.
It's a beautiful day.
It's another undisclosed location.
And I'll tell you this and give you another clue.
It's in a tri-state area.
Now it's up to you to guess which of the three tri-states it's in.
Helen won the competition, or the raffle or whatever, and then she realized,
what, that
she didn't want it?
She didn't want it.
No, she didn't have room.
She said, "Oh, I didn't think I'd win that piece of junk."
That's not what happened.
She didn't have room to put it.
Yeah.
So to avoid litigation, and I think we all understand how costly and ugly and
unpleasant
that is, she then, she what, sold it to her uncle?
No.
Her uncle really wants it.
He really wanted it.
She paid top dollar for it.
No.
I don't think it.
She just gave it to him.
Yeah.
So here we are at the uncle's house.
Helen lives in another one of the three states.
That's right.
You have to guess what it is.
Yeah.
I will say that the uncle's property here is lovely, and I feel confident that
the sign
has found a lovely new home.
I agree.
Yeah.
So it's very exciting.
I love making people's dreams come true.
Yes, you do.
Yes, I do.
Let's do it.
All right.
Let's go inside.
Oh, my God.
Who is this?
I'm Helen.
Who broke the door?
Hi, Helen.
I'm Dave.
Nice to see you.
Hi, I'm Barbara.
Hi, Barbara.
Nice to see you.
Thank you.
So exciting for me today and thank you very much for winning this.
Did you give a high number entry or a low number entry?
A kind of low.
Stop interrogating her.
Because I really didn't think I was going to win.
Of course.
But I wanted to give something.
This is a valuable lesson.
Didn't think she was going to win.
In fact, has won.
Realized the suffocating pressure of the victory and has donated it now to your...
To my uncle.
To your uncle who does want it, doesn't want it.
Oh, he wants it.
Yeah, absolutely.
And I want it too.
I just don't have...
Still in the family.
Yeah.
And you don't have the room, which is...
Right.
That's a code for, "I'm smart enough not to put it in my yard."
How has your life changed since you won the big sign, Helen?
Well, I'm meeting all of you wonderful people.
Yes.
And I'm getting to see my family again, so...
We're bringing families together.
Absolutely.
Where's your brother?
Is it your brother or your uncle?
He's in here.
Oh, everybody's here.
My brother, my uncle.
All right.
Are we going in to meet the crowd?
I love making people's dreams come true.
This is a lovely home.
Thank you.
Oh, my God.
Oh, here's the whole thing.
Hi, I'm Dave.
Howdy.
Nice to meet you.
What's your name?
I'm Preston.
We met in the garage.
This is Barbara Gaines.
I'm the one with the Tesla.
Barbara and I are all friends.
Yeah.
Well, this is your brother.
This is my brother.
So your brother and your uncle are here.
And my uncle.
And you're the neighbor?
I'm the cousin.
You're the cousin.
What's your name?
I'm Jenny.
Gaines, get in here and meet these people.
All right.
Hi.
I'm Barbara.
Kim, the aunt.
Hi.
Also a cousin.
Also a cousin.
Yeah.
I was in that theater because my father was the lead sponsor of the Ed Sullivan
Show.
That's where we used to work.
That is right.
Like 20 years in the Ed Sullivan Theater.
This is a great story.
Go ahead and finish it up.
And the Beatles appeared in 1964.
1963.
First time.
Yeah.
Appearing live in the United States.
February.
And my dad called Ed who put him on to his talent coordinator, Jack Babb.
And Jack said, he like screamed because everybody's calling for tickets.
Sure.
They filled the theater and I walked in and there was one seat with my name on
it with a piece of masking tape in the fifth row.
On the aisle.
So I appear in all the clips.
Oh, that's fantastic.
So when he goes, ladies and gentlemen, the Beatles, the first face is mine.
Okay.
Let me interrupt you right there.
So this is very meaningful.
Is it lying or can we verify this?
You've seen it.
Absolutely.
You've seen it.
You have not seen it.
You have seen it.
You and you.
We weren't there when it happened.
It's on TV.
We've seen it.
Okay.
So we can look it up.
You can look it up.
It's on YouTube.
Is roll this thing into the prize wonderland giveaway.
Yeah, we can see it.
Are you sitting the only boy surrounded by a million girls?
Yes.
And screaming girl.
Everybody here feels good about this, right?
Oh, yes.
Very good.
Because now this is like immortality.
It is.
Because a hundred years from now, when everybody in this room is dead, the sign
will still be
out there.
That's right.
I love making people's dream come true.
Yes, you do.
That's good.
This is the lovely winner of the sign from the Ed Sullivan Theater Marquis.
Congratulations.
And on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, good for them.
Good for you.
Now, because of some custody wrangling, I don't fully understand it.
It's a bench warrant, I'm told.
You couldn't keep the sign.
Preston, as keeper of the sign, we have a little something for you.
Thank you very much.
Wow.
No kidding.
Wow.
Wow.
This is too great.
This is from the Ed Sullivan Theater, where you were there when you were 12.
That's awesome.
I was there when I was 12.
Yes, I was.
Look at that.
Let's take a look at that.
Beautiful.
Did you see the inside?
Inside it's been autographed.
Okay.
Unless the rain is washed that away.
And it's reversible, I see, too.
Well, you do whatever you want.
I don't want to get into your private life.
Thank you very much for doing this.
Thank you.
This is just great.
And the connection of you and the Beatles when you were 12 at the Ed Sullivan
Theater,
that's delightful.
It's sort of miraculous.
It really is kind of miraculous.
Sitting right there in that audience where you were for so long.
Whoa.
Wow.
Whoa.
Whoa.
Whoa.
How about this?
Oh, my God.
Come on in, everybody.
All right.
This thing is beautiful.
It is.
It's just beautiful.
It's big.
It's colorful.
Now, are you in any way planning to exploit the ownership here?
No.
I'm going to make continual donations to Habitat for Humanity.
Oh, God bless you.
And gratitude.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You don't want prowlers and high school kids coming over.
It's very good.
I think this is the best Barbara Gaines show we've ever done.
I think you're right.
Yeah.
Don't forget to subscribe and push the button to do all that.
That's right.
And let us make your dreams come true.
Thank you, everybody.
All right.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
