Hi, everybody. It's me, Dave, Dave Letterman, my good friend, musical director
forever,
Mr. Paul Schaefer. Thanks so much, David. Good to be with you. Paul Schaefer,
the music maker.
Oh, I love that. Now you think of it. I know. Where were you 10 years ago? I
have all the good
ideas now, sadly. Let me give you a little history on this. We had the marquee.
We had a giveaway
thing whereby we raised a huge sum of money, over $100,000 to go to Habitat for
Humanity. Now,
you may remember when Paul and I discussed this months ago, Paul said, you know
what? I have a
similar bit of late show memorabilia. It's a sign with my name and the CBS
orchestra on the sign
as part of the marquee. Yes, it used to be just below the marquee featuring me
and the CBS orchestra.
Yes, and I said to Paul. And I got a hold of that. I've had it in my basement.
Yeah. And I said to
Paul, well, maybe one day you'll auction that off for money for charity. And
you said, no,
I'm never going to part. I said, never, never. Never going to part with it. But
I was so inspired by
how well you guys did. Right. All right. So you take it from here. Yeah. Tell
people what the sign
is that is now in play. Well, at a certain point, Dave was nice enough to put
my name out in the marquee,
too. I had my name in lights on Broadway, just like this song. Yep. It was
thrilling. But it is a hell of a cool
artifact. I never thought I'd give it up. But but this is what happened. My
daughter and I think
Victoria, you've been so nice to her over the years. A lovely family. She's a
full time dog rescuer
in Los Angeles, California. And this is part of her merch, actually. Pup
culture. Pup culture. Yeah.
It's all about puppies and the whole culture surrounding them, of course. It's
a foster program
for dogs. She gets them first fostered and then adopted. Oh, that's great. She
rescues them. She's
got a rescuer who will hear, you know, a litter. We just spotted some abandoned
litter and a mother
by the side of the road. Wow. And then once you take on that responsibility,
the needs of these animals,
well, we don't need to explain it, are pretty much endless. Everyone has to
have a medical
examination. Yeah. So every single one. Victoria is taking care of all the
responsibilities.
And had it right in her home for all these years, but now has gotten herself a
space in Pasadena,
California. She's the little young lady from Pasadena, if I may. And she's
starting a new pub
culture venue there. They want to take in emergency cases. They want to house
dogs that are in need for
any reason. Low cost vaccine clinics right there. They're on site. If they
raise enough money,
they're going to have spay and neuter clinics, you know, in honor of the late
Bob Barker. He was all
about that. That's right. This is Hollywood, you know. There's going to be a
dog play space in the back
because certain dogs don't get socialized when they're in regular dog park. You
know the square
footage on the facility they're looking at? Well, it's huge. It's got to be
huge. It's huge. They've
got the gymnasium size. They're going to give supplies and food to low income
and homeless people
who have dogs. You know, they don't know how to do it. So this really is an
enormous undertaking and
hence the selling or the auctioning or the giveaway of the marquee sign. That's
right. That's the idea.
And all the money that we might raise from this raffle. And it's a $10 ticket
apparently to join
this raffle. That's not too much. Oh, oh, we'll throw in a jacket. I'm told. Oh,
well, that would
be great. See that. Those are very rare. Yeah. A late show jacket. Only staff
members had. Yeah. And
by the way, here's the, here's what the Paul's talking about. The Paul Schaefer
part of the marquee.
How large is this piece of grand memorabilia? Well, it's sort of huge. It's 15
by foot.
One foot by 15 feet. Yeah. And how does it get to the winner's home? We'll ship
it and get it out there.
Yeah. We're going to get it to you. That's the best part of the whole thing. $10
a ticket?
Yes. How often can you enter? Well, I don't know. Unlimited. That's fantastic.
Yeah. Oh, but we're forgetting an important thing. It also comes with a late
night with
Letterman or a late show with Letterman. Jacket. Jacket. Athletic jacket. Very
rare. Yeah.
Signed by the two of us. Yeah. Yeah. So the world is full of pet owners. And if
you've ever
owned pets, anybody knows the magic and the connection lasts a lifetime. So
this is from
the heart. What a, what a good way to take $10 and apply it to something lovely,
really lovely.
You can enter this and sign up and be sure to press the thing. Yeah.
It's the little old lady from Pasadena. Go, granny, go, granny, go, granny, go.
It has a pretty
little flower bed of white gardenias. Go, granny, go, granny, go, granny, go.
Ah, but parked
in a rickety old garage is a brand new, finding the superstar Dodge. 10 bucks a
ticket. We'll be
right back. And everybody says that there's nobody meaner than the little old
lady from Pasadena.
She drives real fast and she drives real hard. She's the terror.
