Hi, how are you? Welcome to The Late Show.
We're very excited about something tonight, aren't we, Paul?
Absolutely, Dave.
You know, for a long time, Paul and myself and the production staff have
wondered,
how would this show be different if instead of my name being Dave Letterman,
my name was Jimmy. Jimmy Letterman.
So that's what we're going to do tonight. It's going to be great, huh, Paul?
Absolutely, Dave.
Jimmy.
Absolutely.
Jimmy.
From New York, ask about our daily specials. It's The Late Show with Jimmy
Letterman.
Tonight, Mia Farrow. From Saturday Night Live, Norm Macdonald.
And singers John and Bonnie Raitt.
Plus, Paul Schaefer and the CBS Orchestra.
And now, runner-up employee of the month, Jimmy Letterman.
Thank you, Bernie.
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.
Good evening.
Welcome to The Late Show.
I'm your host, Jimmy Letterman.
It's already more exciting, isn't it, Paul?
Ladies and gentlemen, you're watching CBS.
And because you're watching CBS, if you're good, and I mean really, really good,
Julie Andrews will come out here and show you her breasts.
CBS!
It's going to happen right here.
On the network.
How you doing, Paul?
Great.
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, Jimmy.
Yeah!
Ladies and gentlemen, if you're just dialing in The Old Late Show, it's not me,
Dave Letterman.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
Tonight, it's a television experiment.
I don't think it's ever been done before on television, has it?
First time done on TV.
Tonight, wow, ballroom dancing with the crew over there.
Tonight, I'm Jimmy Letterman.
Yes, sir!
Oh, they touched it.
We've been going back to the stage across the panel, USA.
So even if it's before the day, he's screaming, screaming, screaming.
Thank you very much.
Nice going.
Thank you.
Look at there.
Seemed like a good idea last week.
You know, Sparky, are you enjoying your assignment covering the World Series?
Oh, oh, oh, yeah.
I'm sure I'm enjoying it, Jimmy.
Yeah.
Very nice.
Thank you very much, Sparky, for playing along.
Oh, we have a terrific program for you tonight.
The lovely, the talented Mia Farrow is here.
By the way, my name is Jimmy for the evening.
Thank you.
I'll be, let me be.
Jimmy's a man that's here to say across the good old USA.
So even if it's just for the day, he's screaming, screaming, screaming.
There you go.
I'm, every time.
Oh, there it is right there.
All right.
Thank you very much.
Nice job.
Woo!
See, that's how people get hurt.
I had no idea.
Every time I say that I'm Jimmy, they come running out here.
It's like not knowing the gun is loaded.
Watch out.
No, no, no.
It's the name that's here to stay.
Across the good old USA.
Show me the name that's on the name of Jimmy.
Go back.
Jimmy.
I'm sorry.
It was a mistake.
Go back in there.
It was my mistake.
You guys are great.
Thanks.
Bye, dear.
Thanks.
I'll let you know.
This was only a test.
Okay?
Thank you very much.
Okay.
All right.
Yeah, boy.
You see, every time I say that name, they're going to come running out here.
Don't say it.
No, I won't say it again.
You see, Paul, if you do that, they'd be out here singing all night.
We'd have nothing but those people out here singing.
And we've heard them now singing once and a half, and that's plenty, isn't it?
That's right.
I think so.
And then maybe later we'll enjoy it again.
Okay.
You understand what I'm saying?
Okay, fine.
Nice to see you.
Thank you.
I brought you a little something.
Uh-oh.
Let me see what you have there.
Is it a gift?
Jimmy.
Oh, that's nice.
There it is.
It's a Jimmy mug.
Ladies and gentlemen, at the beginning of the program, we told you that tonight
I would
like to be known as Jimmy.
Well, it stinks, it sucks, it blows, it ain't working.
So, if you don't mind now, indulge me if you will.
I'm changing my name back from Jimmy to Dave Letterman.
Once again, I'm Dave Letterman.
Dave's the main dog's here to stay, across the below you stay, so even if it's
just for
the day he sees, day he sees, day he sees, day he sees, day he sees, day he
sees, day he sees.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
God bless you.
Thank you.
It's me again.
I feel so much better.
You know, now that I've had a couple of minutes to think about it, I sort of
miss being Jimmy.
Thank you.
