Dear Dave, I noticed that David Sanborn, who's here tonight, by the way.
No, no disrespect, but didn't we cover that?
I noticed that David Sanborn gave credit to you on his new album.
I was just wondering what you did to deserve this type of recognition.
A fan, Karen Fisher, London, Ontario, Canada.
Yes, I was given some credit and I certainly appreciate it.
It was very nice of David to give me that credit on his latest release.
But, you know, I do think I deserve some recognition because I did work very
closely with him recording several of those tracks.
Geez, I remember it as if it was some phony gag we taped earlier today.
Okay, our next guest is a terrific saxophone player and he plays with our band
most every Thursday night.
This is his newest album right here.
Is that right, David?
It's called Straight to the Heart.
His new album, Straight to the Heart recently went gold and his new album, A
Change of Heart, this is what this is, is entering Billboard's Jazz Charts at
number three this very week.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome David Sanborn.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
guitar solo
guitar solo
Yeah!
Very nice. Nice to see you.
We'll be right back. Come on over, David.
Thank you, boys.
This is the newest one.
It's a change of heart.
And the other one is Straight to the Heart.
Too many hearts.
The last time you were here, I mentioned this to you,
but it's just a thrill for us to have you here
every Thursday.
You guys always sound terrific.
It's always great to play with us.
Now, you know, when people talk about saxophone,
they always say, well, David Sanborn, that's it.
Who do you like as musicians?
Who stands out in other instruments?
Other instruments?
You mean contemporary?
Dead guys?
Dead guys?
Whatever you want.
Prince.
I like Prince.
Yeah?
And I like the Talking Heads.
And I like Branford Marsalis and Wynton Marsalis.
No slouches in that group?
No.
How long have you been playing the saxophone?
Over 20 years.
Over 20 years.
Learned it in high school?
Yeah, when I was 11 years old, I started playing.
Was that your first choice for an instrument?
That was it.
Yeah, I heard Ray Charles when I was about 11 years old,
and I thought that was the greatest,
the coolest thing in the world was to be a saxophone player
with a Ray Charles band.
You must have played with him by now.
No, I've never played with him.
Is that right?
I've never played with him.
That would be a terrific combination.
Yeah, it would be great.
Is the saxophone one of the few instruments now
that has never been written into a symphonic piece?
No, it's actually been written,
I think Berlio wrote it in Symphony of Fantasy.
Oh, right.
I heard you're listening to it on your rock, man.
Right.
But it's, well, you answered the question.
Most of the literature is French, kind of, you know,
kind of fake.
When are you guys going to get together
and do some albums and stuff?
That would be great.
I'll produce it.
Okay.
Okay.
Well, you helped in the last session.
Yeah, that's right.
I was in there.
We got to go.
We'll be right back.
