audition piece
for stomp could work either way huh huh could work for both how long you gals
been riding
letter number one excuse me too much pre-show soda pardon me letter number one
dear Dave why
do you criticize a good network like CBS that's funny for several different
reasons why do I
criticize a good network like CBS just wondering Aaron Hamo South Bend Indiana
all kidding aside
Aaron here is the deal I'm not really criticizing CBS but I tell you I am and
Paul you've noticed
this I'm a little tired of the misleading way very misleading way that the
network tries to promote
this show here's what I'm talking about watch this for five years you've
welcomed him into your home
tonight join David Letterman for one last laugh on the final episode of The
Late Show featuring
heartwarming tributes from Dave's guests Charles Grodin and Paul Rodriguez from
all of us at CBS thanks
and be sure to join Dave on Monday when he welcomes Greg Kinnear counting crows
and stupid pet tricks
only on CBS all the misleading way they try to promote the show
well you gotta wait till it goes through the window then you can you can do
that let's try that again
you gotta wait really till it clears the window more or less no not even four
feet from man these
rehearsals are invaluable we're gonna have to start scheduling them uh letter
number two uh dear Dave I was
wondering if anyone ever asked you if you have a twin uh just curious in
Arkansas Michael and Kathy
Black ever have a twin that's a you know that's a common question people for
some reason they think
if you're on TV may you know maybe you have here's what it is it has something
to do with the uh with the
show and uh I play on the show more than one character and we do it uh simply
to save money
for example I I play myself and then I also play the character of the stage
manager Jimmy Jimmy here
he is look at this Jimmy right there how you doing Jimmy nice to see you attaboy
Jimmy all right goodbye
that settles the confusion about the twins but uh our announcer our announcer
Alan Coulter uh you also play
more than one character on the show don't you Alan oh yes I do Dave uh-huh
aside from playing myself I
played the role of CBS Orchestra drummer Anton Figg yeah that's right there he
is right over there
and I also play cue card boy Tony Mendez oh that's right cue card boy Tony Mendez
there he is right
there and and Dave you know you know Sarah Jewell and Moojibar that's right
well I play Moojibar yes yes I do
Dave uh I play announcer Alan Coulter oh yeah there he is there yeah of course
not everybody realizes that there they are
yeah yeah yeah he's a very busy man and and Dave of course of course I play the
CBS
orchestra horn section oh my gosh there he is over there Alan Coulter in the
CBS horn section
pretty good thanks Alan nice going thank you Dave uh Biff Henderson one of our
stage managers Biff you play
another character too where they oh there he is right there don't you Biff uh
yes I do Dave uh I play
announcer Alan Coulter oh yeah there he is there's okay now thank you very much
let's try this again I
think what we need now is the breaking glass what you need is the breaking
glass then you need the goal you
gonna try that try that give that a shot all right here we go okay there you go
now we're getting
somewhere hey I knew something was I knew something was missing
uh the show we like to think of the show as a as a work in progress
a work in progress yeah well it's coming along nicely right
or a car that's broken down in the fast lane during the early morning commute
no we don't
uh letter number three dear Dave uh what goes on during the commercials oh
another great question
what goes on during the commercials this is from sean sweeney queens that's
hard to say sean sweeney
queens sean sweeney queens yes sean sweeney queens uh well sean uh sometimes
during the commercial uh
you know when you folks are at home doing whatever you do i uh no big secret i
like to enjoy a
refreshing beverage yes you've seen me do it paul i do that yeah yeah i'll show
you i mean it doesn't
really need any kind of illustration but it's what i do
ah just like that thank you very much and i'm glad you enjoyed that and now
and now in keeping with federal broadcast standards please watch this public
service

america

uh letter number four up to number four already paul my how time flies uh dear
dave how do you plan
to attract younger viewers just curious uh leah david to akron ohio well as
anybody knows the key to
successful television programming you got to get that young audience you've got
to get that young
audience you have to go out there you got to get them early you got to keep
them you got to get
them right you know like grade school before preschool kindergarten you got to
make an impact
on them then and then you keep them all through grade school all through junior
high right through
high school all through college you want to follow them out into the world when
they get married
have kids have a family get a job get laid off start drinking you want to have
those people with
you yeah young audience oh yeah the young audience well uh there's two things i
know about
young people one they love the contests and they also love explosions so that's
the idea behind our
brand new contest for college kids it's called get blown up on the late show
tonight we're very excited because we have our very first winner ladies and
gentlemen from erie
