our next guest uh stars on the popular television series parks and recreation
which airs thursday
nights at 9 30 p.m ladies gentlemen welcome back to the funny the lovely amy poehler
everybody
nice to see you thank you i don't think we've seen you in a long time no it's
great to be back i had
a present i was going to give you but dusty the cat stole it darn cat with a
latex glove yeah i
i could have watched that video all night it was fascinating wasn't it it was
like a very that
video was like a very specific type of pornography yes um now i know of some of
the reasons you you
work in los angeles yes and since i you've had two children yes i have well
congratulations thank you
very much how's it double it up double it up and you're back down in new york
city i'm so happy to
be back i've been i love it it's my home and just uh last night i was uh in a
cab and you get a little
cushy in l.a everyone's kind of nice and they uh they're all in the business
and everything and i
got in a cab and uh driver said are you from new york and i said yeah i live
here but i haven't been
here in a while but in l.a and he goes oh are you an actress and i go yeah i'm
on a show on nbc and he's
like yeah yeah yeah yeah okay sorry i'm home i'm home did did now when you when
you uh there's like
you and your husband and then the two kids that's four oh my gosh right now
that's that's a lot to
move that's like a ringling brothers kind of a deal yeah did you bring the kids
in i didn't i'm just
here for a few days and i traveled on my own yeah what's that like it's like i
feel like angelina
jolie and the tourists when you are not with your children you just feel like
you're like walking
through the airport in a trench coat sipping espresso and peering at people
over magazines
it's great um traveling with two kids under two is very difficult and everyone's
been on a plane where
kids have been melting down yeah yes when they're your children it's very
difficult
and i was just on a flight recently and um both of my guys were just having a
hard time at once
and a lady across the aisle from me leaned in and said wow you really can't
catch a break can you
whoa yeah and then i i thought for a second and then i just said well you know
they're my kids
so i have to love them but it looks like you're the one who's screwed
well that's that's the important thing in life to remind people that they're
screwed uh now uh i
haven't been in california in a long time but the last time i was there no no
point renting a car
because you're not getting out of the the airport parking lot for sure the
traffic is crazy you don't
drive in that mess do you i do and i've discovered i have a lot of road rage
like just right right here
ready to go because in new york probably no drive yeah i mean when you're
walking in new york and you
know you're you're you're the when you're walking the pedestrian is king yes
that's right so you're
always like slow down relax buddy you know when someone's trying to take a left
turn and la the minute
something happens i just go bananas and i have to work on it because i have two
children in in my back
seat now but it's hard i i have like when when when someone does this when you
when you have an
altercation or someone doesn't like the way you're driving or something happens
and someone goes like
this oh yeah yeah i go so boston i get crazy you go boston i go really boston
and i go crazy
and i i have thrown the double finger with my children in the car with the kids
in the car i'm
not i'm not proud of it there you go mother of the year wow i'm sorry you'll
cut that off very satisfying
yeah i would think so but you know what is also satisfying is to find a word
that's very um very
aggressive uh without being a swear word because you know you try not to swear
in front of your children
so i find that man woman old young if you call someone sweetheart makes them
really mad
so just go you just go go ahead sweetheart it just is so demeaning in a variety
of ways yeah
everybody hates it um and in terms of uh like one and then two kids it's not
double the uh the project
doesn't just double the project increases exponentially yes yes have you found
that to be the case i have
um the the number one thing you have to remember when you have a second kid is
that you have a second
kid sometimes you forget how is it how is it possible to forget sometimes you'll
be in your
house and you'll be like oh boy a baby's crying and you'll be like oh that's my
baby
so that's why second kids are so relaxed because they never never get any
attention and no one ever
picks them up no um yeah you have to kind of yeah it's it's just craziness all
around two boys is that
what it is and do they they like one another does the older one resent the
younger one no the archie's
the older one is so sweet and they're really great and you know you just all
you do all day is just
like have a baby hold another baby you know you just put them in each other's
arms and
they tip over and then you take pictures and so in in in a certain respect it's
a little easier because
you got you got them together they're kind of looking out for each i'm hoping i'm
i'm looking
forward to like you know bunk bed times where um you know but right now it's uh
it the the little
one is just a little he's six months so he's kind of a i was the uh uh uh here's
here just just this
will tell you everything you need to know about me as a father uh my my son is
a set of bunk beds
and uh my son uh was down below and he said yeah daddy where you sleep okay
okay
so i now get up on top i've never been on the top of this bed and i'm thinking
holy crap i weigh 200
what if the son of a gives way in the middle of the night and i crush my own
son in the
bunk bed that would be terrible i was up all night it was horrifying
that would be horrible how are how are things on the the show really good thank
you yeah we're
we're happy to be um back on tv i like it because it said in a phony town in
indiana yeah pawnee which
is a fake town uh number one in friendship number four in obesity that's our
but uh what's really
great about it is we work in the parks and recreation department and so the
fiction of the show is that
all these other departments have these very peculiar things about them that we
get to make up like you
know the sewage department has very hot interns for some reason i don't know
why and yeah doesn't make
sense sewage the guys down in sewage are really cocky and they really like to
party um but in our
show like kind of our enemy is the library which is very very fun to play
because everybody loves the
library and in the parks department yes and you do too someone clap for like
the library libraries are
very important but on our show the library always gets whatever they want they're
like the smart kids
in class everybody loves them all the women who work at the library steal
everybody's husbands wow wow
yeah uh parks and recreation there's something to tune in ladies and gentlemen
thursdays
uh 9 30 pm congratulations on your babies thank you steve nice to see you again
