our next guest is the creator of the immensely popular beavis and butthead for
those of you who
don't know anything about beavis and butthead take a look at this videotape
from the upcoming
season and it should give you an idea what it's all about oh cool yes sir
ladies and gentlemen
please welcome back mike judge mike welcome back to the program now i gotta
tell you that on the
weekends i watch this show mtv runs it like saturday night and sunday night two
hours or an hour but two
shows back to back and i sit there just like a donut watching these guys that's
what it's for and and
i find them endlessly entertaining because i know and you know and the world
knows these guys are
always will be and cannot be anything but idiots that's right and i find that
for some reason
endlessly gratifying and very satisfying to watch well thank you yeah it's
therapeutic to do for that
now uh it's unbelievable to me because the i was reading today that the
merchandising off this
cartoon show is about a hundred million dollars worldwide and i'm thinking to
myself good for
you you deserve that congratulations well thank you uh it sounds a little high
but uh well that's that's
what i'm gonna go over there to uh i'm gonna go over there and go uh could i
have thumb
actually it's uh i'm doing all right yeah i know i would think you would be
doing all right
now uh we touched on this before but these guys are people you knew people you
grew up with a
combination of the various people i didn't um it's not like butthead is this
particular guy and beavis is
this particular guy but there's just like a lot of things that that happened
that i think kind of
inspired it and i was i was thinking the other day about um i was at i went to
a catholic high school
and at the well there you go right there that that has a lot to do with it that's
all you need to know
we were at uh at graduation it was at baccalaureate mass which is a pretty
serious thing you know and
we're all there in our suits and everything and it gets to the point in the
service where the priest says
take this and eat it and there's like i hear from behind me a couple guys going
it's things like that you know
and uh i guess another another thing um something that i i realized like
almost a year after i had started doing beavis and buddhead something that just
occurred to me was
i had a i had a next door neighbor in a studio apartment i was living at and
this is in texas
actually no i lived in san diego for a while i'm originally from albuquerque
lived in
san diego in texas but um uh really thin walls at this place and you could hear
everything through
the walls and the guy next door to me was he was a little nuts and he was on
this medication that
if he stopped taking it he would get really happy if he stopped yeah he would
get happy
get happy by not doing drugs and uh so so he stopped taking it and and uh for
for i guess it was about
a week he was just laughing it seemed like 24 hours a day and he had he moved
all his furniture out
get to the pharmacy apparently yeah he got too goofy to go and and he was just
he was watching tv the
entire time so he'd laugh at everything he'd be going charlie the tuna man
i would hear it all night long so i think that might have this is the guy that
took his car apart
or something yeah yeah he uh i came down one stairs one day and he was
carefully removing the back
windshield out of a really nice nova 78 nova and i just i said uh what are you
doing and he said no it's
like a truck
but you say it was a really nice 78 chevy nova yeah oh yeah he was uh we have
some some videotape
that you were nice enough to ask me to help you out with and i want to show
that we have to do a
commercial first we'll see if we can do it when we go all right now mike this
videotape uh was from the
for the mpb music video awards oh yeah now this is a big thrill for me yeah
thanks for it was great
roll it hal here we go let me have fun no way come on come on let me have one
fight get out of here
dumb ass hey hey check it out there's ozzy where where where where
nice to see you again mike mike judd
