Our next guest is a multiple Grammy winner who sold over 90 million albums, her
new CD.
It's called These Are Special Times.
She also has a television special on Wednesday right here on CBS.
Please welcome back Celine Dion.
How are you?
I'm fine. Thank you very much for being here.
I'm so happy to talk with you.
Yeah, I know. I think...
I love to sing, but I'm a big talker. I love talking too.
Last time or sometime you were here and you just won like nine awards or
something.
And we didn't get a chance to talk to you about it. I'm terribly sorry.
Oh, don't be sorry. Are you kidding?
I have a heavy heart.
But you know what? Oh.
You know, now that we're on the same network, we've got to stick together.
You know, it's interesting you bring that up because my little nickel and dime
special is on, I guess, Monday night of the week that your special is on.
Yours is on, like, Thanksgiving night.
Mine's on Wednesday at nine.
Yeah, so it's a blockbuster of a night, isn't it?
A wonderful night.
I know yours will do well. I know mine is just...
I'm not worried for you at all.
No, I see mine's sucking gas.
You don't travel with weapons, do you?
I do not. I do not.
There you go. That's the way it ought to be. Good for you.
Are you traveling now? Are you touring now?
Well, I'm touring. I started the first leg of the tour, and, you know, I'll be
on tour for the next year and a half.
Next year and a half?
Yeah, hey, I'll be touring for the next year and a half.
Now, is that a good thing? I mean, I know it's what you do for a living, but...
It is a wonderful thing. This is what I love doing the most.
Really?
You know, the traveling is the hardest part, but when you're on stage, and
especially this time I'm in the round, and it's...
You've got to keep rotating. Do they have a thing that rotates you, or do you
do your own rotating?
No, no, I do it myself. I do it myself. Yes, I do it myself.
But you know what?
Give me an idea of what a big star she is. She can handle her own rotation.
A lot of big stars have to be rotated. You know? That's true.
Well, you know, it's a lot of work, but actually, I cannot feel any other way
to perform now, because to be in the round, you have people around giving you
their energy, and there's no way I can think about performing any differently
than that now.
See, now, I've done a little of that, and it was hard, because I could, you
know, you look over your shoulder and you see people sneaking out. I hated that.
You do not like it.
Well, I think it's... I think I'm getting used to it, because the fact that I
come from a large family of 14 kids, people all around me all the time.
And we come from a little town, too.
Well, how big is your town?
They had... You know, there's nine people in the town we just looked before,
but maybe we're... There were 16 Dion's in that town.
Wow.
Yeah, pretty good, eh? Big town.
Now, I... Am I... Have I got this right? I see you with, like, a golf thing, a
big... Are you playing golf?
Are you playing golf?
No, I don't play golf.
You don't?
No, I don't know what I'm doing.
Oh, this is a new passion of mine.
Really? When did you start playing golf?
About a year and a half ago. I started some courses, and then I started the
tour.
Are you any good?
I'm getting good. 24 handicap, but my husband is starting to be afraid of me
now.
Yeah.
He's been playing for 25 years, but I'm coming.
You know, it's... It's a... It's a horribly frustrating game, you know.
It is, but I think it's very powerful.
You know, it's like you focus on the ball, and then you just hit it, and it
goes forever, and on and on.
And just like my heart will go on and on and on. You know what I mean?
It's a great feeling, you know.
Yeah.
That's right.
What's the nicest course you ever played?
We bought our own golf cart.
Oh, stop it.
Two years ago.
It's true. Two years ago. My husband's been playing for 25 years.
I got to rent shoes.
What the hell's going on here?
Apparently, I've not been as good with my money as I thought.
No.
You have your own golf cart.
Well, we were...
One of those things with the windmill and the little monkey hole.
We were looking for a place to build our new home in Canada, and we made a deal,
and I
said, Renny, you love golf, and I want some beautiful lot with lakes and
beautiful trees
and everything, so let's make a deal. We'll buy a golf course. We'll have
everything.
I'll have my space. You'll have your golf.
You bought a golf course to build your home.
We did.
Man, that's powerful.
You know, it's a good thing. It's beautiful.
And I guess you got your own cart, too, probably.
Yeah, why not?
Why not?
Oh, God almighty.
Hey, that Titanic song turned out to be a pretty good deal for you, didn't it?
It's brilliant.
Man, you can pick them, huh?
Yeah?
Nice going.
Nice big nose. I feel like I smell those things.
I'm very lucky. Very lucky.
