our next guest starred as brenda in the hit series beverly hills 90210 and now
she has
a brand new motion picture entitled mall rats which opens on friday ladies and
gentlemen here
she is shannon doherty how are you oh thank you sir can't get enough of that
now uh it's i'm told
that you were a little nervous coming out here yeah and why is that well i had
a really bad
experience when i was 16 years old really on a television program i did uh the
soap opera oh yes
i've done those yeah and uh i sort of slipped really and on the stage in front
of the audience
in front of the audience were you injured no no actually the guy that was with
me who i can't
remember his name caught me but i was i sort of my butt almost hit the stage
and it yow and you
probably won an award for that it's pretty embarrassing yeah uh you and i have
the same
birthday yes we do it's exciting isn't it it is you like your birthday april 12th
sure when i was born
in 1947 when were you born 71 dave whoa so you're how old are you i'm 48 how
old are you i'm about
half your age my god so you're just now this is interesting isn't it here i am
48 you're 24 it's
amazing isn't it and we're on the show together and i used to have such a crush
on you no you didn't
i don't even say things like that no come on no really really in what sense why
how did that i i think
it's the gap i think it's the gap in my teeth it's the gap i thought it was
really sexy well
then why am i just finding out about it now when i'm 48 and can't do a damn
thing with it
what the hell is that
i guess it's all for the matter part of god's great plan don't you think ladies
and gentlemen i think so
what do you what did you think of uh the reverend jesse jackson very forceful
presence very powerful
man very articulate guy yes yeah yeah as far as i'll go with that one well you
know i mean i'm a
republican oh you're a republican you don't want to get me started on this one
that's right
and uh you you actually what are you did the pledge of allegiance at a
republican convention the 1992
george bush oh man what was that experience like that one was held in it was in
houston in houston it was
it was insane i mean there were like so many people and it was pretty crazy and
i got you know a lot of
flack for being outspoken about my beliefs but my sort of thing is you know we
all have our own
beliefs and it's okay whatever your opinion is is is fine and you have a right
to it and on the other
hand you have a guy like me who doesn't believe in anything which is great
uh uh did you get to meet everybody there did you get to meet the president the
vice president i met george
bush and i met barbara bush and then i met dan quayle i went to the white house
later
and uh did you hear the foghorns oh i'm sorry no i'm forgiven what were these
people like they they
must have known who you were of course well you know what it was so shocking to
me that he knew who
i was but he knew who i was because he's shocking that he knew where he was
thank you very much and
that's that's the last one of those for the evening uh was it uh and you did
the pledge of allegiance
did you know it from memory did you have to have it on cards was that i knew it
from memory yeah but
you know but what i'm saying everybody knows it from memory well of course i do
four score and seven
years ago but in a situation like that people who know the the national anthem
if they don't have
cards often because of the the moment lose track of what they have known all
their lives no no no no
problem for it i'm a good southern girl you know we we learned that very early
good for you uh mall
rats what the hell is that a movie about exterminators malrats is uh somebody
it's paul
it's paul he's just trying to help paul tonight has been my lifeguard sometimes
it works dave don't
go on the deep end sometimes it works yeah thank you paul um well mall rats are
just you know kids
that hang out in a mall and who do nothing else with their lives it's really it's
kind of a subculture
isn't it it actually exists and it's existed for as long as we've had malls and
kids just they hang
out there well i think it's sort of a safe neutral place for kids what kind of
things happen in the
movie uh everything the guys lose their girlfriends and and the guys try and
get their girlfriends back
and they end up getting us back so you know i mean a man wrote it you know what
else is going to happen
look at that look at how cute you are there look at that look at that look at
how cute you look at
that that's cute um and it does does it uh from what you know of kids being
more or less a kid
yourself does it accurately depict and portray the life of kids today um
absolutely i think so it does i mean
i i i think that the world is so violent and and scary at this point that where
else can you really
go where you feel safe and there's so many things to do in a mall
you know i'm trying to come up with really intelligent answers about this movie
good answer good answer
yeah give that jesse jackson a run for his money
um
there's absolutely no message to this movie well that's all right that's just
entertainment that's
fine there's no message to this show of course i understand completely uh shannon
it's great fun to
meet you and uh will you come back and see us again absolutely all right good
luck and the movie is
opening now opening on the 20th on the 20th it's called mall rats this is shannon
doherty we'll be
right back kids you
