enough
what what if we have a veritable smorgasbord we have the united states olympic
synchronized
swimming team with us tonight look at that pool that's a beautiful pool
out there on 53rd street isn't that lovely that pool is 75 feet long and uh 20
feet wide
or so on about six seven feet deep and standing in front of the pool now we
have the olympic
swimming team there they are hello ladies welcome to the show
uh and we'll be talking with the captain lauren mcfall is lauren mcfall out
there hi dave hi lauren
how are you good welcome to new york city welcome to the show tell us a little
bit about the team
about the ladies where are they from how long you've been working together okay
uh we're from all
over originally we're training in santa clara california right now we've been
training together
for two years right and we're leaving for the olympics on august 5th and what
are the qualifications
for a good uh uh synchronized swimmer you have to be flexible flexible flexible
you have to be graceful
graceful you have to be able to hold your breath a long time how long do you
have to hold your breath
in the program that we're going to submit the olympics we hold our breath for
three minutes of
the four minute program wow have you ever lost lost a girl close close now this
has been an olympic
sport since 1984 is that about right that's right and in the world who would be
the toughest competition
for the united states russia's number one japan's number two and we're third
right now and and how
do you how do you even know you're good at this how do you begin doing
something like this
because my coach tells me i'm good good for you
and a little bit later tonight you're going to do some of your uh demonstration
is a demonstration
or performance what do we call it it's a performance it's a performance and a
little
bit of it and uh who designed it who choreographed it uh our coach basically
choreographs the routine
and uh and we sort of help her out with the fill-in of it right and uh
everybody moves
simultaneously that's the idea i guess yeah and we also do a lot of formations
where we all do
different things too so it's really a complete package okay well we'll
certainly look forward to
it and are there sound effects yes of course wow that'll be good are you
excited about going to
greece yes okay well thank you very much ladies get ready and we'll check back
in with you later
thank you for being here there they are ladies in the united states olympic
synchronized swimming team

united states
in on the world stage and uh in the synchronized swimming so that's wonderful
yeah wait till you see
them i saw a little of the rehearsal is it exciting oh it's gorgeous well no it's
exciting it's gorgeous
it's and it's synchronized and yet they do yet they do their own thing
by the way tonight's demonstration is sponsored by the insurance company aflac
oh i'm glad you told
us they paid for the big pool and all that stuff now did it are we insured for
that ah good point
peppy uh but no i i think i heard them saying that we get to keep the pool so
we'll have that lovely
pool we'll keep it open on 53rd street for the rest of the summer oh 75
neighbor kids can come and
you use it and enjoy themselves it'd be a nice thing i could do my laps you
know every morning
84 degrees that's the water temperature perfect how many gallons do you think
in there oh uh that's
75 feet long 17 feet wide three or five feet deep either like 65 000 gallons
hey not so bad not so
bad how many 48 000 gallons oh i was over but yeah but still and all that's
because it's not deep you
know that's what i forgot five feet deep yeah you had a deep end you know with
diving it would probably be
be yeah no diving oh yeah it says if one end was suitable for diving the actual
gallon edge would
be 65 000 there you go see see that oh thank you you're right on the money
thank you for noticing
so the united states olympic you can rank third in the world so eight and here's
what i'd like to say to all olympians representing this great country as they
embark on the odyssey to greece
go for the gold wow did you coin that i think you coined another one i did coin
that yeah our next
