how are you doing well i want to tell you something you guys had a tough way to
go to
get to the finals and then after you go to los angeles and i pointed it out to
everybody the
problem is you you guys are from pennsylvania and a lot of you guys are just
coal miners and you get
out there in hollywood and you're dazzled by the stars and the bright lights
and the courtside beauty
of miss diane cannon and what chance do you have and then all of a sudden you
win the first game
and i thought oh my god here we go here we go did that was that like a special
feeling did you think
maybe we can get this done after all yes i think um going to l.a we knew that
we have a chance to
to pull one away from them and then come home and fight our way of trying to
close the series yeah
yeah we did it it seemed to me like
it seemed to me like the key was that first game back home if you guys could
have you know
you had to have you know something going there and then uh so that was it
though i think we're playing
our best i think we try our best and i think lakers was just better than us
they play so much better
and shaquille o'neal cannot dominate the game yeah oh in a way is that going to
be that way for the next
five or six years is it just going to be the lakers every year or can somebody
can your team beat them
next year who knows you know yeah on the first we have uh we have chicago um we
have the lakers we
have boston now is the lakers time but who knows next year maybe can turn
around to somebody else we
can come back and try to challenge them again yeah what about this notion that
michael jordan is coming
back how how if he comes back and if he's competitive how does he then with his
team fit in with the 76ers
and and the lakers where does he is that going to work at all first you want my
point of view yeah
i think it's i don't think it's a good idea for him to come back and why is
that
i think i think i admire the guy so much he have done so much for the game also
he has done so well
for himself in corporate america and about him taking a his suit off and to
come back and trying to
play the game i don't know what else does he need to accomplish because you
have accomplished everything
you want yeah um let me ask you about uh
when was it when you were with the uh atlanta hawks yes is that when this was
going on
yes and and this is after a blocked shot is when this would happen yes and you
got a call from the
league one day i got a call i think uh rick i think we play against boston and
i have like a 12 block
shot and rick pettino who was the coach by then didn't appreciate the way i was
uh waving my finger
to his play but you know i like that because it's very it's a very subtle kind
of but very meaningful
taunt it is a taunt it's a reminder yeah just let the guy know that please don't
come in my house
please let me know before you come very effective and they said they said don't
do it anymore uh one
day they leave car they say you can't do it no more otherwise you get the
technical filing when
you get two technical files you get to throw out again yeah because you were
hurting people's
feelings is that what this was they say i was just embarrassing them on
national tv
and let's talk about uh alan iverson oh my goodness now before you came to the
sixers
what was what was your impression of him when you were not a teammate
i have some question in my mind what would be like playing with him despite all
these things
what's going on in the media they were saying about him but when i went there
and i got changed to know
him he's very special guy and a great family man and a great worker he worked
very hard and he do
whatever it took to win you could you could just
you could just see every minute of the game on his face and the way he carried
himself i mean he
there's so much energy and and when things were going great you could just see
it bursting out of
and when things were not going great you could he was carrying himself like a
wounded warrior and
then he'd get back up and he'd go at it again it was a pretty now does that
does he represent a a new
way to play professional basketball a shorter men play in this game or is he
just one of a kind
comes along i don't think he's that short because we have seen guys shorter
than him before right
he's just the other size i'm just taller than everybody
will will the team more or less be back together is everybody splitting up is
the
coach brown returning what's going to happen there that's a good question yeah
you know i would love
coach brown to come back he's a great guy and i admire working for him i would
love to work for
him and next year again i think everyone will be back but who knows it's a kind
of crazy business
yes it certainly has changed so fast but that playoff series is just grueling
isn't i mean that's
got to be just i mean worse than and it's not as long but it seems like it's
nearly as long as the
regular long because by the time is over it was only two teams that was playing
and the 27 of them was home
yeah so you should be proud of your accomplishment absolutely
what about the what about the owners the pack protein what do you know about
this guy
is he is he a good guy it's great just it's why you know he's like to do
everything that can get
your attention very smart guy he's a great person yeah um he did so much for
the city of philadelphia
also for the organization but we want him to stay you know hope he doesn't
leave us let me let me talk
about philadelphia let's talk a little bit about your your home country uh uh
what it was what it was
like uh growing up there uh what you're doing there now and and and what's
important for us to know
about not only your your homeland but the entire continent of africa um first i'm
from the republic
democratic of congo which is located in the middle of africa almost uh 51
million people population 51
million yes and i was raised in a city of 10 million the city of kinshasa which
is the capital city
and right now the condition in my country is very poor for the fact that we
have uh past almost two
and a half years of civil arrest in the north which almost brought the economy
so down and
the healthcare system is so broke down and then my foundation myself we're
trying to fix it and now we
have a project that we're starting on september 15th but i'm trying to build a
new hospital a 300 bed hospital
that i've done it already 2.5 million dollars and i'm willing to donate more
money and to get the
hospital built so now i'm just seeking support from the town
are there other efforts like that going on for your country are other people
trying to help in ways
like that bigger there's a lot of people doing little things but uh little
things to make a big
difference and i think all of us by doing something make a big difference you
think so so your outlook
is uh optimistic yes um i think what i'm doing i don't want to be just the only
one i think i'm setting
the new way setting an example for everybody to follow uh not even today maybe
tomorrow my keys
or their grandchildren will follow the example of me and they want to help the
country out well you
didn't win the game but you're a champion in my eyes and i think everybody else
who knows anything about
the game thank you thank you good good to see you nice meeting thank you it can
be more tumball ladies
gentlemen we'll be right back
Thank you.
