And now, the musical guest of our show, Grammy Award winner, Jack Jones!
Thank you!
Dave will be out in a minute.
But first I'm gonna kick things off.
A little tune made famous by my buddy Joe Williams.
Goes like this:
Well, all right, okay, you win.
I'm in love with you.
Well, all right, okay, you win.
But baby, what can I do?
I'll do anything you say.
It's just gonna be that way.
Well, all right.
All right.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, okay.
All right.
Whoa, okay, you win.
All right.
You win.
You win.
You've been great.
Thank you.
And now, the man the girls at Wellesley College think has no real achievements
of his own.
David Letterman!
David Letterman!
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Okay, that's it.
And ladies and gentlemen, how about Jack Jones?
Wasn't he wonderful?
Jack Jones.
Jack and I will be at the Concord next month.
You know, ladies and gentlemen, I'm a little disappointed.
You know how you get your feelings all excited?
You're just walking along trying to live your life as best you know how to do,
and then something will happen, and you'll get excited only to have those
feelings, those hopes, those dreams dashed again by some quirk of fate.
Let me give you an example of what I'm talking about here.
There's the little footlocker store.
The athletic gear place in my neighborhood is having a drawing.
So I just filled out a thing and tossed it and didn't pay any attention, and
they called me this afternoon saying that I had won a prize.
And right away, I'm thinking, my gosh, you know, maybe like a car, and maybe
like some kind of a television, or maybe shoes for life.
And I get over there, and it turns out all I had won was a tour of the Keds
factory.
Jack Jones, ladies and gentlemen, is Jack.
You know, Jack was a little too eager to get back out here, wasn't he?
Boom, I'm ready.
Okay, now, so Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry went to court again yesterday
because there are, I guess, more charges about drug use and possession and so
forth.
And it got me to thinking, I hope now, with all of the time this man is
spending away from City Hall,
that something awful doesn't happen down there in Washington.
You don't like a lot of crime and stuff like that.
Jack Jones, ladies and gentlemen.
Do we have anything else there?
I'll take one of those, please.
Do you get the feeling that Playboy magazine is maybe lazy now?
They've been in publication for, what, 30, 40, 50 years?
I'll give you an example of this.
Next month, the big spread in Playboy magazine, Girls of the National Geographic.
Now, to me...
Hey, hey, what a show we've slapped together tonight.
Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to our friend.
He's right over there, Paul Schaefer.
Jack Jones opening up for you.
I feel right at home.
Yeah, Jack Jones.
And many, many thanks to Jack.
You know where he's appearing now?
Right upstairs from here.
The top of this building, up there at the Rainbow.
What do they call it?
It's called the Rainbow and the Stars.
Yeah, and it's lovely.
Have you been up there?
I'm going tonight to see him, right after the show.
Oh, you are not?
Yes, I am.
Are you really?
Yeah, I've got an extra seat, too, if you want to go home.
Were you invited to go up?
I made myself...
I invited myself.
I'm going up with Chris, my assistant, a couple of...
Barbara Gaines, a couple of us are going to go up there.
Now, how come I don't get to go on stuff like this?
Well, you should come up.
This isn't my invitation right now, do you?
Would you come up and join us?
How come you're so loud over here?
Can you hear that?
It sounds like he's screaming at me.
Yeah, it's very, very loud over here.
Now, just count from ten backwards.
One, ten.
Sorry.
All right, go ahead.
You got me.
Simon says.
Okay.
Okay, ten, nine, eight, seven, six.
All right.
I think it's just me.
I'm excited tonight.
Okay, let's do the left here now.
Go ahead.
Five, four, three.
Okay, that's fine.
Perfect.
Thank you very much.
Yeah, but how come I don't get in on these things?
Because he's been here all afternoon.
I hear no mention of Come On Up.
We'd like to have you at the show.
Well, I saved it for an...
There he is again.
He's back again.
All right, count back from ten.
Here we go.
Ten, nine, eight, seven.
All right, that's about it.
Right there.
Okay, that's perfect.
Okay, leave it right there.
Now, how come I don't get in on these things?
This is my invitation to you.
I have a table, my own table up there.
It's good exercise, I would guess.
You have to be in very good shape.
Can I see you, Jack?
Hello?
We're hearing...
How are you?
Oh, there's...
I'm sorry.
What happened?
Pleasure to meet you.
Oh, he's...
Okay, fine.
There's Jack Jones.
Let's see how many laps we can take around here.
Okay, fine.
All right, just...
We'll get back to you later.
You do a call.
Thanks, Larry.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
