Hey, John, how are you?
Fantastic. How are you doing?
I'm doing very well, thank you.
And a big excitement for you.
We've had a lot of folks on.
You've been on many times for the office.
Yes, luckily.
And now the big finale.
Yes.
And, well, you have a beard.
Now, is that because your life has changed?
Yes.
I actually went on vacation after the show ended.
Where'd you go?
I went to Thailand and Bhutan.
Oh, my.
Yeah, really nice.
Yeah, everybody's like, ooh, Bhutan.
They don't know.
No, they don't know.
It's supposed to be, Bhutan's supposed to be beautiful.
It's incredible.
And a lot of hiking at high altitude.
And Buddhist temples.
And they have something called gross national happiness.
Oh, yeah.
Which is, they actually, they do.
It's like a big deal.
Happiness there is a big deal.
And did you like the place?
Loved the place?
I loved it.
I loved it so much that I grew a beard.
The best part about ending a show and coming back with a beard
is that all your friends go, hey, oh, you doing all right?
You doing okay?
Yeah, like something's happened.
Yeah, like I'm having a total nervous breakdown.
But you're not, clearly.
You just went on a vacation with your wife.
No, it's way cooler to say I grew a beard for a role.
But this is the biggest role ever.
This is the role of my life.
Terrible.
And we've had people on being very coy about the finale of the ending of The
Office.
It's under lock and key.
How do you end a show after nine years?
What do you do?
Well, we technically ended it with a lot of tears.
When they call that to the end of The Office, that is, I had heard the term gut
punch before,
but never really felt that.
Really?
It was just one of those things where you're laughing, and they were like, guys,
that's it.
And it was like, what was the last part?
I didn't, it hurts.
How many shows did you do?
I think at the end, it's going to be 206 shows.
That's a lot of work.
Yeah, it's a lot of work.
A lot of your life on TV.
Yeah.
And it'll be on now for, you will not outlive the run of this show, will you?
Really?
It'll keep going and going and going.
But damn it, I'm going to try.
And what will you do in terms of work now that The Office will not be there?
Wow, you've hit a soft spot.
Dave, if you need an intern, I'm around.
No, I actually just, it was just announced that I got a gig on Arrested
Development's
return.
It's a small part, yeah.
Absolutely one of my favorite shows.
And I had a small part on that.
Now, this is, it's going to be on the Netflix first.
The Netflix, yeah.
So you're going to be on the Netflix.
Yes, yes.
And they just made an announcement last week, and I think it's the best bit I've
ever been
a part of, and I had nothing to do with it.
What happened?
Yahoo announced that I'm going to do it, and they put up a picture.
Uh, to go along with the article, and it is not me.
Let me see it.
Is this what we're talking about?
This was on...
Yep.
Wow.
Yeah.
That is, uh...
That is fantastic director John Singleton.
Uh-huh.
Who directed wonderful movies like Boys in the Hood.
And, uh, I am not a handsome black man.
Yeah.
But...
But that is the next role I'm going to play.
And John Krasinski as the handsome black man.
Well, that'd be exciting.
And, and, um...
It would be kind of exciting.
Now, as far as the, uh, back to the office, Steve Carell, going to be there?
Not going to be there in the finale?
No, we would have loved to have Steve on the show.
Well, you know, he was there.
Yeah.
I think you're fibbing about this.
No, he came to set.
There was, like, a big rumor going around that he was on set.
Yeah.
And he's like, yes, we are actually friends.
Mm-hmm.
And he doesn't live in space.
He, um...
He came to visit us on our last three days.
But why...
I mean, that's a pretty strong hint.
Here I am, last show.
Anything?
Yeah, and we just, we just turned all the cameras away from him and went, no,
we gave you
a really good goodbye.
Thanks.
I kind of like that, honestly.
I think that takes courage.
But then, uh, I'm, I'm, uh, told that...
There's a big parade and celebration and sort of a gala in Scranton,
Pennsylvania.
There was.
Were they there?
That's amazing.
The, uh, the, the place of the setting...
That's all who was there, by the way, just them.
It was, uh...
The office is, takes place in Scranton.
It does, yeah.
So we actually decided to have our big final wrap party in Scranton.
And, uh, without a doubt, the most surreal moment of my life.
Was there a parade?
There was a very legitimate parade with over 10,000 people.
When you say legitimate, what is it?
You had a permit and everything?
Is that what it is?
We had cops.
Yeah.
And, uh, we were in cars.
Kids, don't get yourself involved with an illegitimate parade.
That's all I can say.
Take it from John Krasinski.
Yeah, you don't want to do that.
Oh.
Yeah.
Let's see a picture.
We got a thing here.
This is, uh, you and, uh, oh my gosh, look at Jenna Fisher.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Oh, you're swarmed.
Surrounded by people.
Now, did Steve Carell show up for this?
He did.
He shows up everywhere, doesn't he?
Let me, let me see the next one.
Just begging to be back on the show.
There he is right there.
Now, what was this?
This is a Q&A about the show?
Why am I looking directly into the lens of that camera?
How did I find that photographer?
Why not?
Um, he, uh, he showed up.
There was a, there was a big surprise.
We had an extra seat and our, our, uh, showrunner Greg Daniels said, what's the
extra seat for?
And they introduced Steve and I've never heard a sound like it.
It sounded like a jet engine.
Really?
Right here though.
People.
Yeah, we were at a baseball stadium and he came out and people went bananas.
A lot more bananas than they do for the Yankees.
Still got it.
Go Red Sox!
Yeah, you are.
You, Pete, you are on fire.
In my one man show for myself.
Uh, but you'll be in the, the big feature length films, of course.
I bet you're, I bet you're going to be in a film the minute you walk out of
here.
You start working on a film now, right?
There's just a crew waiting for me to shoot an amazing action scene.
I, I hope so.
How's your wife, by the way?
She's doing fantastic.
Thanks for asking.
She's from, uh, she's British.
She's from England?
She pretends to be, but.
Not really?
No, she is.
And, uh, you know, being, being married to someone who's British, there's a lot
that you
want to impress them with.
Of course.
So I just took up trying to watch cricket with my father-in-law.
Mm-hmm.
He loves it.
He loves it.
And I, I'm sure it's a great game.
I don't get it.
It's like a weird Looney Tunes commercial.
It's just a lot of like.
And then they walk like this.
Mm-hmm.
And touch sticks.
And then they go, let's break for tea.
I saw, I've only seen one game of cricket in, in my life.
And what I found to be impressive, it's, it's odd.
It's an oddity for sure.
Yeah.
Uh, and, and sort of fascinating.
And the equipment is kind of cool.
I saw a guy hit a, the ball deep, deep, deep, what would be American left field.
And a, a man in a white shirt and white pants and white shoes goes running
after it, reaches
up with one hand, no glove, makes the catch.
That's pretty impressive.
Great.
So you're saying cricket is way more masculine than baseball.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They beat us at everything.
They beat us at everything.
I don't know why they wear hockey pads, though.
I don't, I don't know why that.
Which came first, cricket or rounders?
Oh, that's a good, that's a good question.
I believe cricket.
Cricket and then rounders and then baseball.
I think so, yeah.
I know more, I know nothing about cricket, but yet I know more about cricket
than I do about
rounders.
Yeah.
Rounders got the short trips.
Yeah.
Do you know anybody who plays rounders?
Um, Emily did when she was, when she was younger.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So when I taught her wiffle ball, she's like, oh, this is a lot like rounders.
And I was like, again with these sports.
It's like Star Wars sports or something.
We're going to start a rounders league here like the Broadway show league.
Well, listen, uh, now the next time we see you, it'll be in some sort of multi-billion
dollar
runaway blockbuster film.
Thank you.
My best to your family, my best to everybody.
Congratulations on a great run.
Thank you so much.
John Krasinski, ladies and gentlemen.
We'll be right back with Kerry Washington.
