Paul, ask me why I might be going to see the new production of Man of La Mancha
with Raul Julia and Sheena Easton.
All right, all right. Why might you go to see the production of Man of La Mancha
with Raul Julia and Sheena Easton?
Well, Raul Julia is fantastic and Sheena Easton is a babe.
Have you seen that commercial?
It's people coming out of this production here, the big Broadway play, Man of
La Mancha, Raul Julia and Sheena Easton.
And then they say all of these wonderful things about Raul Julia's acting.
And then, and I don't mean to say that this is the only thing they say about
Sheena Easton because there are many other nice things they say about her in
the role there as, who does she play in Man of La Mancha?
She plays the woman of La Mancha.
She's the man of La Mancha, right.
And so when people say things about Sheena Easton, it always is, oh, yeah, she's
quite a babe.
Oh, pardon me.
It's the coleslaw from up to the commissary.
I had to wrestle this away from an audience member.
A guy hands this to me.
He turns himself in.
If I hadn't gotten this from the guy, I would have heard that all night.
Like it's the Super Bowl.
It was the coleslaw.
Thank you.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you have written in for tickets to our anniversary
program, everything is set.
We would like to see you at Radio City Music Hall on the 18th of January.
That's right.
That's right.
18th of January.
If you have tickets, please come on down.
The check went through.
We got the hall.
Come on in.
And then the big show, a big 90-minute primetime television program that will
be produced right there from the great stage.
When does that air, Morty?
Thursday.
This is our producer, Robert Morton.
What is the date?
Thursday, February 6th.
Thursday, February the 6th.
It's 9.30 right here on NBC.
Somebody's going to have to wrestle this away from me now.
I was going to say.
Oh, Robin, nice to see you.
How have you been?
How was your happy new year?
There you go.
One of those.
Bob Morty is our producer, Robert Morton.
Robert Morty Morton.
And he's a man in his mid-30s.
How old are you, Bob?
I'm 38.
He's 38 years old.
The producer of the Today Show, we found out two weeks ago, is 25 years old.
The Today Show celebrated their 40th anniversary.
And they had a big party commemorating their 40 years on the air.
And it's unbelievable that a television show would be on the air that long.
The Today Show.
40 years right here on NBC.
Oh, no.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, there.
There's your Today Show.
And so they had a big party.
And the next day, what's his name?
Todd?
What's the guy's name?
Jeff.
Jeff.
Jeff, their 25-year-old producer did not come in to work the next day after the
big party.
You know why?
Why?
Too much ice cream.
Had a little too much ice cream.
And he couldn't come in.
Too much cake.
Too much ice cream.
But he'll be...
But not our...
What are we doing?
Oh, Hal.
This is our director, Hal Gurney, and racing legend.
Hal, do me a favor.
Turn on that external camera, will you, please?
You folks couldn't have selected a better night to dial in because we're going
to be playing
may we see your holiday photos, please?
There we go.
That's 6th Avenue.
That's, uh, from X.
No, no, don't go in quite yet.
Let's spin around and see the folks on 6th Avenue, or, as I call it, Avenue of
the Americas.
How do you do, ma'am?
Hello, nice to see you.
Hi.
Hello, sir.
How are you?
Fine.
How are you?
Why, there's Robin Leach right there.
Not here.
Nice to see you.
Sir, I have a little something for you.
Watch out.
Keep moving.
Thank you very much.
I will try.
Thanks.
Okay, sure.
What did he...
What did he say?
What did the guy actually say?
I didn't hear that.
How you doing?
He will try.
Okay, all right.
How you doing?
Yeah, I'd like to see you in a tie.
Okay.
Oh, no, I don't have one.
That's all right.
What is that?
Is that a whistle?
Where?
Oh, there.
No, no, it's a trade.
Okay, good.
Congratulations on that, sir.
Thank you.
All right, now, just do us a favor and get away from the camera.
I'm necessarily mean to these people.
I didn't...
Hi, nice to see you.
I didn't have this in mind at all.
I just thought we could look around.
How can you look up to the...
Oh, man.
Boy, you folks think you've had a bad day.
Where are you?
Hi.
Let's look up toward the park, Hal, if we can.
What are you doing?
Oh, we're doing a TV show.
What are you doing, ma'am?
Where are you going?
That's not real.
Where are you going?
I don't know.
Where are you going?
Well, I'm kind of...
I'm stationary.
You're the one in transit.
Is this David Letterman?
Yes, it is.
Hi, Dave.
Nice to see you.
Who's this?
Kathy Lee?
No.
My name's Jennifer Perry.
What do you do for a living, Jennifer?
I'm an actress and a singer.
Oh, really?
Well, do a little singing for us.
Do you do anything for Man of La Mancha?
No, Sheena Easton does, though.
Yeah, yeah.
Now, look.
Why...
Now, wait a minute.
Why would you go see that Broadway play, that Man of La Mancha with Sheena Easton?
Why would you go see it?
I didn't go...
I'm not going to go see it.
But wouldn't...
You'd go because Raul Julia is a fine actor, right?
Right, yes.
And...
But what about Sheena Easton?
You'd go because she's a...
What?
A fine actress?
No.
No.
Hey, settle down.
I'm sorry, Sheena.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, Sheena.
I'm going to go to the studio.
I'm sorry.
No, you'd go see her because she's a babe.
Oh.
Have you seen those commercials?
Which ones?
Oh, never mind.
Look.
Look, come on down.
We'll get you some cocoa.
Okay.
All right, well, you know where we are?
Rockefeller Center.
That's right.
We're like six blocks from where you are.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
All right, all right.
We got things to do.
Okay, bye.
Bye.
Happy New Year.
You too.
Nice talking with you.
All right, now.
Bye.
All right.
Hard to believe a shy little thing like that as an actress, isn't it?
10 o'clock?
Oh, there's...
Okay, now let's go into the store so we can play.
May we see your holiday photos, please?
This is Fromex, the International Chemical Cheese Consortium out of France.
Hi.
Hello, everyone.
Happy New Year to everyone in the Fromex store.
May I have your name, please, ma'am?
Me?
Yes.
Kari Carlson.
I'm sorry.
What is she saying?
Kari Carlson.
Kari Carlson.
Where are you from, Kari?
I'm from Astoria.
Oh, and you know, you have a lovely face there.
Have you ever done any acting?
Uh-huh.
Oh, really?
What things might we have seen you in?
I don't know, The Loving Knife.
I don't know, it was about Saddam Hussein.
I don't know.
Was that like a theatrical release or...?
It was off-off-Broadway.
Oh, it was a play.
It was a play.
It was not a special on CNN then.
All right.
Now, did you take a lot of holiday photos?
Uh, yeah, I got married over the holidays.
Oh, congratulations.
Very nice.
He's certainly a lucky, lucky man.
Is that him hiding behind you there?
Where?
Where?
No.
One of those psycho deals where her husband follows her every minute of the day.
All right, now, do we have holiday photos there?
Oh, these are wedding photos.
Okay, well, let's see a couple of wedding photos.
Okay.
What's his name?
Mark.
Uh-huh.
All right, hold them still.
Oh, that's very nice.
That's the, uh...
Are we getting into the honeymoon now?
Is that what that is?
No, no.
Here's some.
All right, hold still.
We can't really...
And it's you and Mark dancing, or...?
No, it's my friend Chris and Jennifer.
Uh-huh.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm...
I recognize the dress now on Jennifer.
All right, one more photo.
It's my sister.
What's her name?
Dana.
I think we talked to her on the sidewalk.
All right, listen, have a long, loving, happy marriage, Carrie, Kari, and nice
chatting
with us, and thanks for playing.
May we see your holiday photos, please?
All right, we have time for one more?
All right, let's see this gentleman right be...
Hi, sir, what is your name?
Howard Silverboard.
Howard, are you a young Republican?
No.
Where are you from, Howard?
Alabama.
Uh-huh.
Well, are you here on vacation?
You could say...
I'm visiting my girlfriend.
I see.
And where is she?
She's getting a table at the next restaurant.
Oh, so you're going over there for some dinner.
Do you mind if we come in a little later and see what you're eating?
What do you do in Alabama?
I'm actually a student in Texas.
Uh-huh.
Oh, I see.
Wow.
This story is really getting complicated.
What are you studying, Howard?
Um, I want to be a doctor.
Uh-huh.
But what are you really going to be?
Okay, Howard, now, we're running out of time, but we do want to play.
May we see your holiday photos?
Now, do you have holiday photos?
Yes.
Okay.
All right.
Let's see what you have there.
This is in front of the Met.
We have to see culture.
We don't have any in Alabama.
This is a picture of you in front of the museum?
That's right.
Yeah.
What are you eating there?
I think it's a pretzel.
Yeah.
You think it's a pretzel.
You're not sure.
Being from Alabama and all, they can't identify it positively.
All right.
And there.
You seem to be continuing to enjoy the pretzel.
Oh, my.
And is that your girlfriend there?
Yeah.
What kind of suit you got her in?
What is that?
Some kind of 15th century armor.
I like it.
I'll give you $20 for that photo.
All right.
Thank you very much, Howard, for playing.
May we see your holiday photos, please.
Holiday photos.
Holiday photos.
A little bit later, a little bit later, could we go in and watch them dining?
Wouldn't that be fun?
Could we barge?
Now, Hal.
Hal, are you still in the control room?
Yeah.
All right.
Let's go up the street and see if those kids are having dinner at that
restaurant.
It's, what is it called?
It's Michael's Prego.
Michael's Prego.
That's the part Sheena Easton plays in Man of La Mancha.
Prego.
She plays the part of Prego, Paul.
Where are they?
We're looking for, is there, what was the guy's name?
Howard.
Howard.
Hey, Howard, where the hell are you?
Howard.
Oh, hello, Howard.
Hi.
How are you?
Hi.
Howard.
Howard, introduce us to your date there.
This is Elena.
Hi, Elena.
Nice to see you.
Nice to meet you.
And you live in New York?
No, actually, I live in New Jersey.
You live in New Jersey?
And Howard is up visiting from school or Alabama?
Right.
Hey, what are you having?
Asparagus.
It's fettuccine with asparagus on top.
Wow.
How many beers have you kids had?
Do me a favor.
Get a big, just get a big food of mouth and then pretend you can't breathe and
slump forward.
And we'll see if we can't get you Heimlich.
How long have you guys been dating?
About a year and a half.
How are things going?
So far good.
Yeah.
She just keeps nodding her head.
All right.
I'll tell you what, whatever you guys want, and we'll pay for it, okay?
All right.
All right.
Oh, that doesn't look good.
What if we sent Robin Leach up there?
Would you mind having him at your table?
No, we've got plenty.
Okay.
All right.
Oh.
Have a lovely evening, kids.
Thank you.
Nice chatting with you.
Thanks for being here on the program.
