congratulations on your academy award that's a huge thrill for anybody
and and how has it changed your life anything different now no nothing it's
it's actually yeah it's all the same um i uh oh it's lots of things have
changed and i'm i'm
first of all recognized just about everywhere that i go right including like
the supermarket
when you're not expecting to be recognized i had a woman come up to me the
other day and she goes
you look a lot like matthew brody are you matthew brody and i said no i'm not
and she said yes you
are and i said no i'm adria brody and she goes yes and she held onto my arm and
proceeded to talk to
me until she realized she was holding onto my arm we had a little conversation
and another guy came
over to me he says do you know who you are i said no who am i sort of metaphysical
in nature
isn't it who am i yeah uh but but you must be enjoying that i mean it's all
people are well
meaning aren't they absolutely and it's been lovely and it comes from something
that meant a great deal
to me and this movie really was wonderful now after you won your award did you
hear from the other
nominees yeah i and they've been really great and and supportive what kind of
things did they say
um actually you know my i met michael kane and you know and there were a number
of award shows that
led up to this and press and everybody kind of it's kind of like a circuit you
meet everybody along the
way and you become friendly with them and and i said to michael kane because i'd
been a fan of his
for years i'd read a book of his that he had written on acting i said you know
i read this book that you
won an acting it's really good and he goes well it must have helped
but was your category one of those deals where everybody else all the other
nominees had actually
won before is that right everyone was a previous winner so that makes it even
like a bigger thrill
i would think for you yeah and i admired all of them and they were yeah and
then and then you win
the award and hallie berry is standing there and the next thing you know i knew
you you're like you're
on top of well i mean it was what was that but can you blame me well no nobody
can blame are you
mad at me for that no i mean she was there and it was i didn't know quite what
was going on and there
she was and it was this welcoming open arms and i just said i'm coming home i'm
running i'm coming home
and then i have been dealing with the repercussions uh for the past four months
but she she was a good
natured about it she was definitely yeah and i know her husband must have
gotten a big kick out of it
so did many people and then what happened at the mtv awards oh and then well
the thing is now it's
it's become such a running gag that everyone wants me to kiss them or or be the
one here we have the
photos maybe the photos tell the story this is you and the lovely the lovely
hallie berry my god
she is lovely i think somebody should have stepped in and say okay you can have
this or the award you
don't get both i can't have my cake and eat it too and then this was the uh
this was the mtv awards
this is what's going on you and queen latifah that's pretty good yeah
i like this this is that's good this is a nice photo that was me doing a halle
berry impression
and they lived happily ever now um jill de ferrin is on the show he won the indianapolis
500 and i
think in some part of your life you were a racing enthusiast yeah i used to
race i used to i used to
drag race we didn't really have a track in queens although we'd find them right
uh and i i i you know
i'd buy a car for nothing i didn't have any money then i was like 800 bucks i'd
find myself a car and
uh dump whatever cash i had in it and um one car i i i did a movie when i was
19 called king of the
hill which was a steven sutterberg film and i put all my money that i made my
entire paycheck in the
motor with this car the car is primered and i built like this two carburetors
and velocity stacks
look like a nuclear power plant coming out of the hood and and at the time i
smoked cigarettes and
i i i used to be so nervous that i would have to light up a cigarette in order
to drive this car
it was literally starting up an airplane it was a fuel switch
and then started going
all my neighbors would come out and look at me and be like
and then you would just race and then i would and i would peel out down the
block and then
come home shaking five minutes later but you were racing it illegally is that
what you were doing
yeah it's it's technically illegal yeah not that i endorsed that but i was a
kid you know i was a kid
one can you do this that's my ass no can you do that yeah that's pretty good
okay let's see uh we want to show a clip of uh love the hard way it opens here
a friday in the new
york city and tell us what this is uh yeah this is a you know this for me was a
a a great story because
it's it's first of all it's about a a guy in new york a troubled kid and and he
kind of is wrapped
up in this whole kind of crime ring and he's a scammer and a hustler very
different from who i was
but nothing at all like um but and then there's you know tragic love story
which i would know nothing
about and and so it was a real stretch for me and um let's take a look see what
he's talking about
love the hard way something doesn't seem quite right there it's love the hard
way it opens the
new york city on friday adrian brody good to meet you good luck to you have a
nice summer
