Did you see Mick Jagger?
I, uh, who?
Mick Jagger, did you see him?
I, uh, I didn't.
Who?
I'm just kidding.
Oh, you're just goofing with us.
I'm just, I'm just joking.
Now, had you met him before?
Do you know Mick Jagger?
Um, I, no.
No, it's exciting, though, isn't it?
Do you think it's exciting?
I, um, I'm, I'm, I like to think I'm still 12,
and I have no idea who the Stones are.
Um, but I'm 27, and I, uh, I'm not.
The Stones and me, we, yeah.
You realize you haven't said anything.
Uh, I'm just, I'm just giving you a chance to relax
before I just start talking.
Let's talk a little bit about you.
Where, where are you from?
Where were you born?
Where's your family?
Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Yeah, yeah.
We've talked about this before.
Is that Amish country?
Um, no, it's close to it, but it's not.
What was life like for you growing up in Allentown there?
Um, you know, I don't remember.
I think I kind of just, oh, God, I, uh, I blacked it out, really.
Well, that would suggest that it was painful.
Was it painful?
No, it wasn't painful.
It was incredibly boring.
Yeah.
And I've had an amazing childhood,
and I grew up very close to Manhattan.
And, um, and then I...
Siblings?
I have a sister.
What does she do?
She's now, she used to be a lot of things,
last time I spoke to you.
Um, now she's in...
No, she's incredible.
She's in special effects now.
Oh, so she's...
She wasn't before.
She was, um...
Computer-generated special effects?
Uh, no, she actually, she sculpts and she creates, like...
Oh.
Like, for, for, for example, she, uh, in the Chihuahua movies,
she made the guitars that they wear.
Like a Beverly Hills Chihuahua?
Yeah.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3.
Well, give her my best.
Please do that.
I will, I will.
Thank you, Dave.
Uh, you know, I'm very excited, uh, for you, uh, and I know you're very excited
because, uh, Christmas Day, oh my gosh, all hell breaks loose, and your, and
your movie,
uh, Les Miserables, uh, debuts all across the United States.
It's gonna be an enormous hit.
How do you feel about that?
Excited?
It's good.
It was a dream of mine, and when they made the movie, I was just like, I would
have killed
to be a part of it.
Um...
How does that work?
Did your agent call and say, guess what, they want you in the movie?
Is that how that works?
No, I wish.
It was like, it was like, by the way, um, they're casting Les Mis, why haven't
I heard
about this?
Oh, no.
And, uh, and then I auditioned six times over the course of four months.
When you, when you audition, you go in and you, you read, uh, lines from your
part?
No, you sing lines from your part because it's sung through.
Oh, that's right.
Which, which may sound weird, but actually it works, and it's an incredible
movie, um,
but you have to, uh, you have to know how to sing, and for me,
um, I used to be a singer.
I quit, uh, when I was 17.
Biggest regret of my life because I had to, like, boot camp.
Um, I quit because I moved to New York and, and then L.A., and then I...
Oh, yeah.
Those were the days when you moved to New York, and the mayor strictly enforced
that no singing
law.
You're the zots.
Laziness.
You're all done.
Uh, but the thing, uh, about this that I like is that, uh, not only is there
singing in
it, it's singing people love because of the, uh, the Broadway productions.
Yeah.
Uh, and, but it's, the music is sung right there at the moment the film is
rolling.
Exactly.
Which makes it difficult.
Which makes it, um, you have to change your lifestyle for, for, to, you know,
that discipline
is, um, is insane.
But, you get to be in the moment.
As an actor, it's, like, super indulgent, and, uh, I had the best time ever,
but, um,
and also for the audience, it makes, it connects them to the characters, and,
and you feel like
you're, you're in it, and...
You know who was here last night?
It was Anne Hathaway.
I know.
Yeah.
She was telling us that when you're doing the thing, they had a guy, a man or a
woman,
in a, in a special box with a piano playing, so you could hear in your ear the
music as...
No.
She told me, no.
I'm just kidding.
No, of course, no, it's true, it's true.
It wasn't true?
Yeah.
How, how many times, how many times would you have to shoot a singing scene to
get it
where everybody was happy with it?
Well, if you were really good, maybe, like, seven, for, for instance, I think
Annie did
seven.
Mm-hmm.
Um, have you, you sing, yeah, it's great.
I mean, how about, how about yourself?
I don't remember.
Yeah.
I, um, I'm still taking voice lessons.
I, I, I'm not done actually shooting this film.
But it's, you know, you better hurry up, because whatever changes you want to
make, I mean,
it's Christmas Day.
Christmas Day, I know.
No, I know, I have a deadline.
It's fine.
I'm not worried.
But you, so you work best under pressure then, apparently.
Yeah.
But, uh, uh, but it, it also physically must be difficult.
You really got to be in shape for this.
Yeah.
It's like there's, you basically have to live like a monk.
Um, you don't drink alcohol because it dehydrates you.
Mm-hmm.
You drown yourself in, in water.
You always have to pee.
Um, you, you, you go home at night, um, and you, you sit and wait till the next
day because
you don't want to get sick.
Because if you get sick, you, uh, you basically, the filming has to just kind
of go to, go to
a halt.
Right.
You have to take care of yourself because you've been hired, uh, to do the job.
And you, you, as a professional, that's what you want to do.
Yeah.
This thing right here, it's like, there's so much going on in your, in your
vocal cords
that, um, yeah, you have to treat them like they're glass.
Now, have you been, have you been drinking tonight?
Uh, yeah, yeah, I'm pretty drunk.
How many, how many, how many drinks have you had?
To be honest with you, Dave, I've had about three.
Three.
And are we talking about, uh, fermented beverage or a distilled spirit?
Um, you know, big fan of whiskey.
Mm-hmm.
And, uh, I'm, I, I, uh, I love Middleton.
I had some Middleton.
Russell Crowe gave me some Middleton for my birthday.
I had some of that before I got here.
And then, um, your lovely colleagues, um, um, that had some Jameson waiting for
me.
Are you, are you all right?
Yeah, I'm fine.
Listen, I have to go on record saying I've never done a live television show or,
uh, uh,
after noon, um, without some kind of liquid courage.
Mm-hmm.
You don't, you don't like to come out here alone.
Yeah, and I understand that I have a problem, maybe.
But you know what?
It really gets me through.
And, and I, I really want to enjoy my experience out here because it's, it's
special.
We enjoy having you.
Uh, I just, and I just, I just hope, uh, now do you think one day we'll hear
that you're
in a program?
No, don't laugh.
There are many, no, I, no.
No.
Um.
Now what would happen, do you think, if you had to come out here and, and with,
without a couple of, uh, um, I, how would it be different?
I think my internal life would have been, would be different.
Mm-hmm.
You wouldn't notice a difference.
I just, um, I have more, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm super nervous when I'm on stage.
Right.
I have stage fright.
I've never done a Broadway show or show in general.
And, um, I think, uh, I think one day I'm going to have to learn to live
without it.
Yeah.
I'm speaking to a lot of people, by the way.
I think you are.
I think a lot of people are at home who, who can identify.
And by the way, I, I used to be a, a horrible alcoholic.
I'm sorry.
Well, no, I'm fine now, but I mean, for, I started drinking when I was like 12
and didn't
stop until I was in my thirties.
And I re, I, and I was just like you.
And you, you quit when?
In your thirties?
Yeah, when I was.
I'm 27.
So, I quit.
I've got three years.
I quit when I was like 33.
So, you have six more years.
Six years.
I have six years.
Listen, I'm, I'm going to join those six years.
Now, what's in there?
What do you have in there?
Uh, it's just, no, seriously, it's water.
It's, it's hydration because, um, I have a voice lesson today.
Now, now, now, now, are you, are you done drinking or will you continue
drinking for
the rest of this calendar day?
Yeah.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.
No, I, I don't drink often.
Mm-hmm.
No, I swear, I don't.
It's, um, it's funny.
No, I've been with the cast a lot.
We've, we've been doing incredible press for this movie.
Like, so much.
And it's really fun because we all really like each other.
Um, none of us really drink.
Now, that's the booze talking.
I love these people.
They're so incredible.
No, but we, we don't.
Now, listen, let's, let's, Amanda, let's look at this clip.
I've seen, now, this movie is, is crazy.
Yeah.
And people are going to see this and they're going to, they'll be up on the
chairs and they're
going to want to see it again.
Good.
You like it.
Oh, it's tremendous.
Yeah.
Tremendous.
And, uh, and, uh, and Russell Crowe, uh, what a singer he is.
All right.
Now, uh, Amanda, what are we going to see here in this clip?
We're going to see A Heart Full of Love, which is one of the iconic numbers
where I get to
hit a really high note.
And, um, and Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks are incredible, uh, my
incredible co-stars,
the best singers.
Um, they're singing along with me.
Take a look.
Les Miserables.
Oh, there you go.
Hope you enjoy that.
What the hell am I talking about, for God's sake?
Well, it's, uh, Les Miserables, ladies and gentlemen, the lovely Amanda Seyfried.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova, ladies and gentlemen.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
We'll be right back with, uh, Natalia Makarova.
