hey what what happened did you snap a tendon what is that it's a big boot isn't
it yeah
is that an injury boot or just something no it's a fashion statement it's the
well
it's working yeah yeah how did you hurt yourself i broke the uh the metatarsals
on the top of my
foot more than one you say metatarsal four of the metatarsals there's something
like 32 bones
in the human foot like that is that right i think so something how did you do
it i was uh i wish i
was wrestling a tiger or something but i was i was jumping rope jumping rope
yeah well i don't know
why they're laughing because that's that's not funny no it's not funny it's strenuous
it's strenuous yeah
and why were you jumping rope what is this uh well i got fired dave uh from my
job right i was doing a
job out here and i decided i would start boxing you know like it'd be a good
thing to do maybe
no this is not one of those joaquin phoenix things no no no no no no no no no
no no i think it is
okay let's take this a segment at a time you're you you're you're in training
to box just to keep in
shape you're not turning into a prize fighter no no no no no there was a a
project i might have done
you know uh where i was gonna be a boxer but i broke my foot so that makes it
tough you know i see
uh and how long will you be in the boot they say four more weeks oh my god was
it painful
not bad no it was like sprain i didn't think it was a break until they told me
i thought and did it
swell up badly it did swell up pretty badly yeah okay uh well good i'm glad to
hear you're on the men
thanks now uh uh and you got fired what are you what far what did you get fired
from what did you
get fired i was doing a play out here i got fired from is this the thing with
alec baldwin that's the
thing with alec baldwin yeah who's a buddy of yours so this is good to be here
on april fools with you
yeah no i'll tell you something alec baldwin has been such a good friend not
just to me but to
the show and he was going way back like and he's a good dude he's a good dude
and the show is
terrific and he's a tremendous actor and one of those guys when you go to see
him oh my god on
the screen you're just so happy he's there now what did you do to him
nothing yeah i think what you got i'm i'm pretty passionate uh and impulsive
and he's a very
passionate individual as well i think you know that impulsiveness and that
passion makes for you
some fireworks this was this was a stage play it was a stage play it is a stage
great stage play what
is it called it's called orphans orphans yeah now had you orpheus orphans orphans
orphans had you
done a broadway production before never in my life no so now tell us uh how you
felt going into this
felt pretty strong going in actually yeah yeah looking forward to it looking
forward to the show yeah
yeah i liked it a lot yeah i read something that tom hanks said who's also uh
opening tonight in a
broadway play he said television is for writers film is for directors uh the
stage is for actors yeah
do you feel that way yeah yeah yeah so uh why why did you get fired uh i think
i think because i think
because me and alec had tension as men not as artists but as men i think in a
room that became a a hard
thing to deal with you know and when you're when you got tension as men that's
tough till july i think you
know it's cool for increments but i think to do that for a long period of time
now uh had you known
alec before i met alec briefly yeah before we started right and and how would
you describe your
relationship with him now uh i hope it's pretty good i mean he's a pretty he's
a great actor and i wish
him the best of luck now can i suggest a couple of scenarios sure uh alec went
to the producers and said
i can't take it another day fire him i think that i think that might have been
what happened really
no i just made that up how could that be what happened it's like it's like this
with a torn
no uh what creative differences i think that's what you got to say uh as sort
of a business savvy answer
for what what uh what actually happened now there were there was a time there
was a guy jeremy piven
who was doing this wasn't that this is not that jeremy piven said he uh came
down with mercury
poisoning from eating too much right right now no this wasn't that i would have
died to do this show
with mercury poisoning yeah uh and uh you can't go back now can you no no no
they got the show they
need they got the show they got they got another guy in there who'd they run in
a great actor actually
they didn't run in nobody he's a great actor his name is ben foster he's
terrific in the show
also now would you consider doing another play i would yeah now and you also
went to a performance
of the show sat right down sat right down front was the only ticket that i
could get actually really
now is that is that an interference to your former uh actors so that you did
the guys oh oh geez there
he is i i don't i hope not that wasn't my intention honestly i've been part of
the play for three
years and i showed up as a fan really yeah now if i were to arrange a reunion
with with you and alec
baldwin would you be up for that or is this is this gone is this scorched earth
well i mean i hope i
mean like i i think that'd be a tough one to pull off man i mean i'm all for it
you know but were punches
thrown no no punches thrown no no punches thrown no
well i don't know what to say because i i admire your work i don't know you as
well as i know alec yeah
but alec to me is the guy he is the guy and i i'd like to see this reconciled
somehow here it is right
here alec i think you're awesome man that's it you know that's it that's it
that's it
great i like watching you in this uh movie you you play uh an investigative
journalist from a newspaper
in albany like the the cur uh the journal curry or something like that
something like that yeah
and uh susan sarandon is in the movie yes tremendous and and robert redford yes
in the movie you're you're
you're you're on you're you're dogging this guy and he's also uh he's the
director director as well
yeah now had you met him before uh before i worked with him yeah no no same
kind of thing yeah just
just came in on a call was there trouble with him no no no no no we're we're we're
we bonded i'm not
i don't have trouble with everybody i don't want the people to get the
impression that you're
troubled i'm not i'm passionate i care so much so tell me about uh robert redford
now here's a guy
you know i mean really there is a guy robert redford yeah yeah yeah yeah there
is a guy that's
right yeah was he nice to you yeah he's the best man he's and and as passionate
as alec you know did
you do can you uh go to him as the director with ideas of your own as an actor
yeah see that's the
thing he's like i'm playing his adversary you know and he's a very he's very
free you know with his set
and he you know he he opens it up for the actor but he's also quick to tell you
your idea you know if
it's not a good idea really yeah yeah now i i've heard this and never made a
movie in my life
that uh clint eastwood uh will just do everything in one take and every and
people go home after
lunch yeah it's unheard of yeah yeah yeah now that seems pretty good doesn't it
that seems pretty
good yeah but one wonders is he getting the best version of things out of his
actors yeah see i would
wonder the same yeah yeah for you typically speaking in a scene is it the first
take the second
take yeah yeah yeah which do you think is where you really you know where you
really nail it yeah i
think my first takes are pretty good you know pretty good yeah yeah yeah i
think they're pretty
good usually they feel pretty good yeah because sometimes uh a new territory is
it's often difficult
to pretend like it's new the second third fourth and fifth time yeah i mean i
guess it depends on the
set you know like uh yeah it depends on the set and the director please stop
doing this sorry i'm begging
you i see please it's very new for me so i'm quite excited about it oh you're
driving me crazy please
i don't know what happened it's very exciting for me dude
uh let's take a look at the uh clip this is now this is
the clip's gonna play here yeah did you did you have the beard when you were
doing the play with
alec baldwin that's probably got me fired here
no this now this is uh uh this could have taken place any time during the late
60s early 70s yeah
and and you're going back to uncover the truth about a situation what are we
going to see in the clip
here well you got you got yeah you got this this reporter from albany who's
chasing basically an ayers
type character uh who wasn't it was basically an american terrorist you know uh
there's part of
the weather underground weather underground and so here's a man who's built a
new life for himself
he's a defense attorney he's got a whole nother life going on he's trying to
just live his life
quietly and here comes this reporter knock knock all right let's take a look at
a clip here
