It's been a long time since you and I last chatted six or seven years ago, I
think.
It's been a while.
Yeah, but a lot of stuff has happened for you in that time, hasn't it?
A lot of stuff has happened for the both of us.
Yeah, well, yeah.
We've both, you know, we've both been very fortunate, haven't we?
Very, very fortunate.
You're perhaps a little more fortunate than I, but...
I don't think so.
Let's talk about your return to football Sunday.
It was your first game back, wasn't it?
Right.
How long a layoff was that?
Since the Super Bowl last year.
I missed like seven games this season.
And you had some surgery on your ankle?
Ankle surgery.
Is that all right?
Everything mended up there?
It's fine.
All right, so what was it like actually getting back into combat?
Did you get beat up a little?
Yeah, I got a little cherry on my side, diving at a pass, but it's cool.
I mean, I'm getting back into shape, and I'm with a wonderful team and a
wonderful organization.
The Dallas Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys.
Man alive.
Those would have to be Giants fans out there, wouldn't they?
You know, we got a team here we're kind of proud of.
Maybe you've heard of the New York Jets.
Now, once you start the season, and this one you were a little late getting
into uniform
and playing.
Are you just miserably sore and busted up all winter long?
Is that how that goes?
No, I pretty much take good care of my body.
I work out, and I pretty much eat correctly.
So it's not.
I've been doing it all my life, so I know what to expect from season to season.
Do you get beat up more playing defense or more playing offense?
Probably offense, right?
Probably more playing baseball, to tell you the truth.
Really?
Yeah, I always get those little nicks and nacks in baseball that prohibit me
from doing really
what I set out to accomplish.
What do you do that's so good on defense?
Why is it that you're so much better than just your run-of-the-mill NFL
defenders?
Why are you worth a $35 million contract and like a $12 million bonus?
I don't know.
You have to ask my boss, man.
Jerry Jones, about that one.
Is it the hands?
Is it the feet?
Is it the upper body?
What is it?
Is it the eyes?
You look at them, and they go down?
I don't know.
I don't know what it is.
Really?
No, truly.
Now, do you ever talk to the guys that are coming at you looking for a pass?
No, every once in a while.
I have a lot of friends in NFL.
We don't talk trash.
We just talk amongst each other.
Little things.
Swap recipes?
How the kids, how the family, you know?
We don't talk junk out there, though.
Now, you had a chance.
You had a shot at a touchdown pass.
Yeah.
Is that where you injured your ribs a little bit?
Right.
Diving.
Now, I looked at the tape of that, and if you had made that, oh, my gosh, they
would have
doubled your salary.
No, I don't think.
I don't think my boss man would have done no more for me than that.
What did you think when you did not?
I mean, it was a difficult catch to make.
What did you think when it just kind of dribbled away from you?
It was a diving catch, in all fairness.
Oh, my goodness.
I was thinking about just celebrating in the end zone, having a good time.
I really wanted to get your fans up.
That was your mistake.
Right there, cowboy.
That was your mistake.
You know, I have a good time when I play the game, and I really want to have a
good time.
Yeah, you've got to catch the ball, then you celebrate.
Then you have a good time.
Exactly.
That's the way that goes.
A lot of controversy, a lot of exciting things happening with the Dallas Cowboys.
First of all, Jerry Jones, this big deal with Nike, and then a big deal with
Pepsi, is that right?
Pepsi.
And then now you have just signed a huge deal with Pepsi-Cola yourself?
Right.
Truly, Pepsi and I have just merged, and we have a beautiful...
You've merged?
Long relationship.
Wow.
We're going to have a nice, long relationship.
And what is the nature of the relationship?
What kind of things will you do for them?
Just, you know, ads.
I mean, print ads, certain campaigns.
We're going to have a good time.
Do you like Pepsi?
I love Pepsi.
Do you drink Pepsi?
I drink Pepsi.
How long have you been drinking Pepsi?
I've been drinking Pepsi since I was a kid.
Really?
Yeah.
So it would be, this contract notwithstanding, your favorite soft drink?
Well, the thing about it, I don't endorse products that I don't believe in.
All right.
So you know Pepsi pretty well?
Pretty well.
All right.
Stay right there.
Oh, you're going to put me on the taste test?
You're going to put me on the taste test?
All right.
Here we go.
Here we go.
Try A there.
Give A a try.
No, try A.
Is this clean?
Yeah, everything's fine.
This is an alcohol.
This is a controlled test.
Everything's fine.
This is an alcohol.
No, sir.
It's either A or B.
A.
B.
That one's A.
B.
That one's B.
All right.
Let's go with B.
All right.
Now try that one.
All right.
Here we go.
Let's go with B.
All right.
B is the Pepsi.
Here we go.
Anton.
How much is this contract worth?
I don't know.
He didn't tell me.
He thought he had me.
He thought he had me.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
No, he wanted to make sure they didn't cheat.
He thought he had me.
Yeah.
That's pretty good, though.
That's damn good.
Yeah.
You made some people very happy there, I think.
Yeah.
I was going to say you didn't make the people happy on you.
You thought you had me on that one, didn't you?
I was hoping, you know, you'd take your shots.
How about that Casey Kasem in St. Louis, of all places?
What do you feel?
You all right?
You want to go out for a pass?
Just write up the audience here?
No, I do.
I don't think the hamstring is ready for this.
That's one to me.
That's one to me.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
