Hi, I'm Barbara Gaines. Here we are in the studios, Mary and Dave.
How you doing, Roadkill?
It's been a very busy week. You guys have done so many things.
Oh, what a, not only a big week for the three of us, but for all of the world.
Yes.
And Mary and I in particular, and you of course, Barbara, have topics.
Let me see you running through the topics.
First of all, our good friend Richard Iawati was in the United States,
and we had a chance to visit and talk with him.
Right, I saw that at the Atlantic...
The Atlantic Festival.
Yeah, the Atlantic Hey Hey.
That's right.
And then Mary and I went to London to visit...
I'm not allowed to say that, I'm being told.
While we were there...
We can bleep it out, went to visit...
You guys went to London.
Went to London right after we visited with Richard Iawati.
Our own dang good luck, the Sean Hayes film play, Good Night Oscar,
which I had missed seeing in New York City because I was one place and then it
moved,
and now it was in London.
And it was like three more nights left of the run in London.
So on a Friday night, we were lucky enough to get tickets to go see the Sean
Hayes thing
about Oscar Levant and the Jack Parr show,
which I have vivid memories of because not only did I watch this,
my father loved seeing Oscar Levant and Jack Parr's director was our first
director, Hal Gurney.
Right.
So many, many connections for me personally to go see this.
But the big moment of the night was how great Sean Hayes is.
He's fantastic.
I saw it here in New York.
Oh, you did see it here in New York.
I did.
It was just crazy good, right?
Crazy good.
And then he plays the piano.
You think he's just a good actor.
And then at the end, boom, he comes out.
Yeah, it's an amazing Gershwin piece.
Yes.
It was a lovely evening and a wonderful surprise.
And I was so happy to have seen it.
And then we got to visit him backstage and he was very, very charming.
Yeah, and he and his husband were so nice.
Scotty.
Brought everybody in Scotty.
Yeah.
And then it made me wonder on that Three's Company podcast they do,
they treat him as a stooge.
Right.
And I just, I reprimanded him.
I said, Sean, you're no stooge.
What's going on there?
And he said, oh, that's just kind of a character.
But I have warned the other two.
You were on that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was years ago in Brooklyn.
He has a team to mind, though.
He takes it out on you.
I mean, because they're making a huge sum of money out of that deal.
Right.
But what a night that was.
And just when you think things are not going to become any more magical,
guess who I meet?
Young Sheldon.
Yes.
Young Sheldon and his mother, Young Sheldon's mother,
were outside the theater on a Friday night in London.
How magical is that?
Right.
And then Young Sheldon, who...
Couldn't be nicer.
A polite young man came up to him and said...
That's sweet.
Very nice.
Very nice.
...and said, excuse me, sir.
Can I take a picture?
And then his mother...
Oh, I think I saw that.
Yes.
And we were chatting.
And I said, I'm sorry.
Are you an actor?
And he said, yes.
And I said, are you Young Sheldon?
Yes.
And he said, yes, I am.
Very identified guy.
I would not have known.
Yeah, but we were so excited.
Yeah, but a sweet guy.
Mother, very, very nice.
Do you remember what he said to his mother?
No.
We were standing there and Dave said something like, oh, well, you're doing so
well.
You've had a great career.
And he said, well, I'm lucky because I have the world's best mother.
Oh, that's right.
Oh, that's amazing.
Oh, my God.
It was heartbreaking.
Yeah.
Wow.
But then you think of the theater community.
I mean, it goes back to Shakespeare and beyond.
And there we are talking to Young Sheldon.
It was crazy.
And then Jimmy Kimmel single-handedly saves the republic.
That's right.
Freedom of speech.
All Jimmy.
Yeah.
And his return presentation was priceless and perfect and moving.
He did it smart.
Yes, a smart man and funny and powerful and just word perfect and quite a
document, too.
It wasn't just, hey, how you doing?
Let's get to work.
It wasn't that.
That would have been me.
Hey, Paul, how's it going?
No, it wasn't.
How you doing, Paul?
But Jimmy really went to work.
And I thought in a pretty bleak landscape, his presentation offered a bit of
hope.
Yeah.
I agree.
I was very upset when they took him off.
It really shook me more than Colbert because I felt like we have a personal
connection to
Jimmy.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah.
And I think we have a personal connection to Colbert.
None of it's good.
But boy, the cowardice that is on display now.
And this is just my thought.
Do you want to hear any of this?
Yeah, I do.
Yeah.
And I can't verify this.
This is just how I feel.
This is just what it looks like to me.
People seem to be stunned when things like this happen.
And I am so tired of people being stunned by things like this because we have a
pretty good history of being stunned by this guy.
And the reason he continues to behave this way, not because he wants to stun us,
but because he's a dictator.
And dictators do things like this.
I think the question we need to ask ourselves now is, what exactly are we going
to do about this?
Right.
But for people to be, oh, wait till those midterms roll around.
No way.
That's another year and a half.
Who's got that kind of time?
But it's sad.
But one good thing did come.
Barbara, you have it right here.
I love this.
I mean, I don't know if I should be loving it.
I was thrilled.
I was delighted.
I was kind of thrilled, too.
We could read along together.
It's a truth social from our president.
Whatever happened to the very highly overrated David Letterman, whose writings
were never very good either.
He looks like hell, but at least he knew when to quit.
Loser!
Exclamation point.
I mean, that's insane.
Loser!
It's delightful.
When I heard about this, I don't know how it came to me, but I don't know.
Sometimes you get up in the morning and you're just kind of going through your
day.
But this was like Santa had knocked on my door and asked if he could come in
and unload his big bag of gifts.
It kind of made me happy, too.
I just kept thinking, loser!
I mean, for a second, yes, all of those points are true.
Still, to get it from the president was a pure moment of delight.
I thought the president of the United States is so obsessed with ratings, TV,
television ratings.
I mean, Trump is so obsessed with ratings, but I can remember when he
complimented your ratings.
The ratings weren't always lousy.
No, that's right.
Take a look at this.
Miss USA, which I own, and Miss Universe have become very successful.
They've gotten great ratings, really good ratings.
And you know in this world, and by the way, congratulations on your ratings.
Well, we do what we can.
Sure, we're here.
Thanks, Don.
I appreciate that.
Very good ratings.
Thank you.
If you have any ideas what one does when they're under the thumb of a dictator,
add them in the comments.
Do we have comments down below?
Yes, we have comments.
And he's worried about, he says, you look like hell.
I think you look pretty good.
I do what I can.
Good crap.
Here's a guy.
Isn't that a little like the kettle calling the pot black?
Yeah, exactly.
I mean, you see this big tubby goofball?
Big tubby goofball.
Well, I mean, how is the crap?
Let's try to stop being surprised by this lunatic behavior.
He's a dictator.
This is what dictators do.
The real question is, what should we do?
We would rather not have a dictator.
Right.
We would rather not.
Rather not.
Aren't you fearful that we're saying goodbye to democracy?
Well, and we kind of are.
Yeah, because he's a dictator.
But this has happened in countries that have a dictator.
I looked up the word dictator.
It's someone who dictates his thoughts to others so that they think exactly as
does he.
He wants everything to go his way.
Forget about what's good for you and me, as long as it's good for Donnie.
Now, here's a little flame, a little flicker.
Ted Cruz, that student, says pushing back on freedom of speech.
So I thought for a second, I thought, wait a minute.
I must have misheard this.
Yeah.
So there's a little something.
But it takes a lot more to derail this, I fear.
What we have learned is that freedom of speech is very important and something
that we have to...
Thank you, Jimmy Kimmel.
Thank you, Jimmy Kimmel.
You saved the republic, for God's sakes.
Yep.
And on that note, I think we're...
And I feel like having been singled out by the president that my work here is
finished.
I think so, too.
Loser.
Yeah.
Loser.
And have a nice day and keep voting and all of that.
Where's Walter, by the way?
I don't know where Walter is.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We're doing the show without Walter.
That's crazy.
I know, we're just flying blind.
So I hope you actually get this.
Okay, goodbye.
Goodbye.
