Welcome to the show.
Hi.
How you doing?
I'm good.
Nice to have you with us.
Tell me about the Tony Award was for Wicked, is that correct?
It was for Charlie Brown.
I was nominated for Wicked.
Uh-huh.
And Wicked was the new version of the what?
The Wizard of Oz?
It's like the prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
It's the story between Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West.
I see.
And what was that story?
I didn't realize there was a...
They were friends.
They were friends.
And then they were enemies.
Had a falling out.
They had a falling out.
And then they came back together.
And everything turned out to be fine.
It was a beautiful thing.
And who comes to see the Wicked?
Is it people of all ages or a lot of kids?
People of all ages.
Little kids.
Old people.
Men dressed as me.
I'm sorry.
Men dressed as you?
Men come dressed as Glinda.
Ooh.
It's scary.
Yeah, it is scary.
And how does that make you feel?
Honored.
Honored.
Especially when I see them with the crown and tiara.
And how many productions of that show did you do?
Um, a hundred million.
No.
A year and a half.
Too long.
Yeah.
And how many shows a week are you doing?
Um, well, I left in July because I have a neck injury.
I, as my character, I did a famous hair flip.
And I gave myself two herniated discs.
Oh, my God.
In my neck.
So, um, my doctor prescribed Vicodin.
And, uh, my doctor didn't tell me to cut the Vicodin when the pain was really
bad in half.
So, uh, I, again, only weighed 97 pounds.
And I took a whole one before the show.
And, um, I float in on a bubble.
Literally.
I floated in on a bubble and I saw bubbles all around me.
And I saw the 3,000 people and I was so happy.
And then I saw my first line and my head was,
The Wicked Witch of the West is dead.
And I said,
I never did get it out.
And were you able to continue like that?
Oh, I don't remember the performance, but the sad part about it.
I don't remember it at all.
Was that some of the people that repeat, that come to the show a lot, said it
was my best show ever.
That can't be good.
And, uh, you're, uh, you're on the show West Wing.
Yes.
And what do you do on the West Wing show?
Um, well, I play a media consultant.
I work for the White House.
Right.
Um, I was hired on this season and I'll be back next season.
Are you enjoying that?
I love it.
Right now, my biggest problem is to decide whether to tell Allison Janney she
has a booger in her nose.
Ew.
Well, she's very tall and I'm, and she tells me if I have dandruff, so.
And, and, and is this part of the script or is this, I, I'm confused.
Well, because, you know, we walk and talk on the West Wing.
Yes, yes.
And so most of the time, my scenes with her, she's six feet tall.
Right, so you're looking right up her nose.
I'm looking up her nose.
Yeah.
And she's looking down at me.
But most of the time, it's just my ponytail in the shot anyways.
Um, were you just in Hawaii?
I was, I got, uh, I was there for three days.
For three days?
Why, why just three days?
That's all I had, Dave.
Is it really, you're working so much, you had to go for three days?
I just had, that's all I took and I got sunburned.
I'm part Native American, so I thought, the guys kept telling me, make sure and
where I can help you.
Make sure you put lots of lotion on.
And, I mean, you know, they were being nice.
Sure.
And, um, I got, I did get a sunburn and, um, I've been peeling.
It's covered up right now with makeup, but you know that Michael Jackson
disease?
I look like I had that.
I mean, I mean the skin one.
The skin one.
Um, and, and, and, and also the, the film version of The Bewitched.
Yes.
Well, you did that with Nicole Kidman.
Nicole Kidman, yes.
And is it Will Ferrell who's in the show?
Will Ferrell, Michael, Michael Caine.
It was a great experience.
It comes out in June.
And, and what part are you now?
I play like her best friend.
Mm-hmm.
And, um, she's very, you know, she's a very professional lady.
Very, um, sweet.
I really got along with her well, but I love to make her laugh a lot, you know.
And so, sometimes right before the camera would roll, she'd be like,
laughing, and then to get us back into the mood, I would say,
dead puppies, dead puppies, dead puppies.
Ah.
Dead puppies, dead puppies, dead puppies.
To, to kind of sober up in the mood, sure.
Yes, and, and it didn't work, but.
It did not work.
No.
We laughed, even in spite of it.
Laughing, seriously, laughing.
In spite of the dead puppies.
About dead puppies.
Yes.
I like your suit, by the way.
Oh, thank you very much.
Um.
This is the first time we've met.
I know, I can't, I can't believe it, because I kept saying to people upstairs,
now she's been on the show several times, and they said, no, I don't, I don't
think she has.
I, I, when you, remember when you, um, were out with your sickness, with your
heart?
Oh, my heart surgery?
Yes.
No, I don't recall.
Nathan Lane was the host, and so I got to come over.
Yeah.
But I, I missed you.
What a waste.
Um.
But.
But I, I feel like I've known you forever, for God's sake.
I know.
I think we could be really good friends.
I, I, I think we could, and we should.
I, I, I, well, why not?
Of course.
Yes.
Hey, I know that you've mentioned jury duty before.
Yes.
And I wanted to give you a little tip.
Okay.
Um, I, I did celebrity jury duty.
And I wanted you to know about it.
I don't, I don't know what that is.
Okay, you get, you get sort of asked to come and talk to young people about how
important
it is to serve.
Oh, that's a good idea.
On the jury duty.
Sure.
Um, and you do it for one day, and then you're exempt for five years.
You're exempt from the real jury duty?
Yes.
Really?
Yes.
Because I, I just did, did this jury duty on Monday up in, up in Westchester.
Nobody mentioned that to me at all.
Yeah.
That's why I wanted to give you the special tip.
Well, it's too late because they, they, and I'm trying not to take this
personally, but
this is the second time in a row I have not been selected for, for a case.
And, and I was ready to go.
Well, and, and frankly, looking around at these other potential jurors, I
thought many were
pinheads.
And I, I thought, I'm, I'm the guy, I'm the guy I, I want.
And then they do, they wouldn't take me.
I would have chosen you for sure.
But it's, it's a wonderful experience.
But you went to the celebrity jury duty.
Where I talked to young people about how important it was.
Jon Stewart was there, James Earl Jones, um, and Ralph Lauren.
Wow.
My personal fave.
Ralph Lauren.
Now, what's the matter with these people?
They can't really bust out a day of their schedule to go to the real jury duty?
I don't know.
I just went, I showed up on the, you know, how you get the card.
I showed up on the day and I said, you know, I, and they go, oh, are you the
actress?
And I said, yeah.
And they go, if you come back in a month on this specific time, you can just
talk about
how important jury duty is to all the people and then you don't have to do it.
Let me guess.
Does this take, does this take place in California?
Is that where it is?
It was right here.
Here?
Yes.
I, I mean, I, I, I guess I'm not enough of a celebrity.
Well, you said Connecticut, so maybe.
No, it was Westchester.
Oh.
I've, I've served in Connecticut and Westchester.
That's not fair.
Who do I have to call?
Well, please, please don't punish yourself.
Okay.
Well, we don't have a clip, do we?
No, we have no clip, but I wanted to thank you for plugging my record.
Well, oh, yeah, the record for sure.
Oh, my God.
Right there.
There's the record.
Right there.
You're beautiful.
You know, I am.
I was thinking about you in that wistful look.
Oh.
Is this right?
It's inspirational and gospel music?
Well, I grew up with that kind of, you know, Dolly Parton and Faith Hill and
Amy Grant.
And, in fact, I do a really good Dolly Parton if you want to hear it.
I'm going to stand.
Please do, yes.
I'm a little sick, but here you come again, looking better than a body has a
right to.
You walk right through the door, just like you've done before.
And here you come again.
And there I go.
Oh, oh, oh.
There I go.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
This is Finnewick, ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you so much.
