Uh, if I don't get a chance to see you before the end of the year, happy, happy
new year.
Thank you very much.
Do you have millennium plans?
Are you going to celebrate?
Uh, I'm pretty much going to, you know, play it by ear.
Yeah.
I'll give you an idea.
Can I get a countdown?
Ten!
Nine!
Eight!
Seven!
Six!
Five!
Four!
Three!
Two!
One!
Hey!
One!
One!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! Yeah!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
We'll be right back with Alanis Morissette!
Happy New Year's, everyone!
And remember this New Year's Eve, if you drink, you shouldn't drive.
But you can eat all the toast you want.
So this New Year's Eve, don't propose just a toast.
Propose a toast on a stick.
It's much more festive than regular toast.
See?
Take a look for yourself.
And after you're done eating the toast, the stick is yours forever.
So remember, alcohol and gasoline don't mix.
But toast and gasoline do.
Hey, gang, I'd like to propose a toast on the stick.
Go ahead, the next round's on me.
I don't know if you can tell by looking at me.
I don't know if I'm giving off a special certain kind of aura.
And again, I don't like to brag and I don't like to bore you with the tales of
my personal life.
But I want to tell you something.
I had a great New Year's Eve.
And you know, because show business, ladies and gentlemen, can be difficult.
It can be cruel.
It can be cold.
It can be thankless.
But I had perhaps the most memorable New Year's Eve of my life.
Man, you know, I was thinking about it earlier today.
Whoa, what a New Year's Eve.
What a knockout punch.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.
Happy New Year.
There you go.
Enjoy that.
Thank you very much.
Happy New Year's Eve.
Yes, sir.
Whoa.
And I would've...
And the fun...
The fun was just beginning.
That was New Year's Eve.
And it occurs to me that the tree is still here.
Did they take this...
Dave.
What?
What is it?
Is that really what happened?
Yeah, that's what happened.
But it occurred to me that the tree...
Dave.
Dave.
What is it now?
Is that really what happened?
New Year's Eve?
Yes.
Exactly.
I'm not speaking Chinese here, am I?
Didn't I just say that's really what happened?
I don't think so.
Yeah.
But we have to do something about taking...
Dave, come on.
What?
Is that really what happened?
Who...
You were like with the FBI or what?
What do you care?
I don't think it's what happened.
Okay, you're right.
No, that's not really what happened.
Here...
Here is really what happened on New Year's Eve.
Take a look at this.
1995, 1996, 1997, 1998.
What a show, what a show, what a show.
Thank you very much.
Nice to see you, Paul.
You look terrific.
Thank you.
I'm expanding my look.
Now, you know, the next time we see one another here on the magic of television.
Magic, hell, the miracle of television.
Yeah.
It'll be a whole different set of numbers.
It'll be 1990.
That's right.
It'll be January something, 1990.
1990.
That's stunning, isn't it?
It is.
That we've been doing it this long.
Still, however, the decade won't be over.
No, the decade does not end until the end of '90.
Until the end of '90.
The '80s, the '80s are over.
Yeah.
'80s is over, '80s are over.
The '80s are over, but...
Doc is here, Doc's not here.
Doc is, Doc is not here.
And now, and when we come back, what is your pledge for the new year?
I pledge to be just a...
Uniforms for the band, Paul.
All right, uniforms.
Uniforms for the band.
Now, were you thinking of sending us over to Seville Row and having suits
tailored for us?
No, not necessarily, but that might be a look we would see one night.
Yeah.
Like what you're wearing this evening, I think, would be acceptable.
For everybody?
Yeah.
That's for everybody.
All right.
Yeah.
Something like that.
Not hats like that.
No, I don't think so.
And perhaps no berets, although Anton, it's nice.
It's nice.
And have you made any resolutions for the new year?
I haven't as yet.
Do you have any new year's resolutions?
Oh, yes.
More fun salads.
Oh, well.
Thank you very much.
Did you get that mocked up?
Thank you.
David, happy new year to you.
Yeah.
Happy new year to you, by the way.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for everything.
If you remember before the new year, our last show or the previous year, you
said maybe
in the new year, uniforms for the band.
Exactly.
We tried a little something today.
Yeah.
We dressed as you.
We felt we could call ourselves a letterman.
And what do you think?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Do you like these?
Would we ever wear?
Well, it puts you in the mind to do something.
We worked out a little something.
Watch this.
Ready?
Watch this.
See?
Thank you.
You know, I think you look pretty good.
To you, this looks good.
This looks good.
Oh, oh, oh.
Yeah.
I know.
I know.
I know you think I'm nuts or something.
I don't mind the way that looks.
It's a comfortable look.
Yeah.
I say the same thing.
People ask me, why did you dress this?
I say the same thing Hef says when they say, why do you wear the pajamas?
Comfort, really.
Comfort, really.
Yeah.
And for a second, you think maybe the four freshmen are back.
