Hi, I'm Barbara Gaines. This is Mary Barkley. This is Dave Letterman.
Hey, how's it going? Nice to see you.
Today is the last show of season four.
What?
It is?
Yes.
The last show of season four, what constitutes a season?
Our seasons go from February 2nd to the end of January.
Anyway, I just thought that was a piece of information.
That's all it is.
So do you have something big planned for your season finale?
No.
Let me just say one thing. Our friend Alex Honnold is going to climb a building
in Taiwan.
It's 101 stories, and a free solo, no ropes, no ladders, no cherry pickers, no
cranes, no helicopters.
He's not taking the elevator, not even the service elevator, not even the
stairs.
He's going up the outside of the building.
And they're live on Netflix on Friday.
Maybe that's why he's doing it, because the elevator's out.
Here's a woman that is so awfully funny, just like that.
And I don't get me into this, but yes, the elevator was out.
What's the matter, Alex?
You too.
What do you think they paid Alex Honnold to do this live?
I'm going to guess...
Climbing up the outside of this building.
A million dollars.
Oh, no, no, you can't even park for that money.
Ten?
Ten million?
I would say it's between ten and twenty.
Whoa.
Because, you know, I just heard that Netflix is working over Warner Brothers,
and they've changed their offer.
Whatever else it had been, the offer is now 87 billion dollars cash.
Yeah, you're right.
They changed it to cash.
87 billion.
So you're telling me, if Alex Honnold didn't get 20 million, I'm calling Ted
Sarandos.
I want Netflix to get it.
I don't want Paramount to get it.
Right?
Yeah.
And we know Alex Honnold, we love Alex Honnold, and we have had the good
fortune to do one or two things with him, and I'll be watching, but it's got to
be 20 million.
I don't think I'll be watching.
I don't think that's scary to me.
Too scary?
Yeah, I think it is going to be scary.
I will wait until it's over, until he's successful, and then maybe I'll go back.
I just, I forgot to say that next week, January 25th, our old friend Hal Gurney
is going to be 101.
Oh, yay!
Mm-hmm.
101.
So I'm pretty sure he's still with us.
I haven't heard otherwise, so you should be.
Are we still trying to get him on the show here?
I was still trying to get him on, but he keeps saying, not now.
He's going to give it a year or two.
Hal, it was just the best, and he was one of a group of people that we were all,
certainly me, lucky enough to spend time with.
Absolutely.
Just the best.
Hal Gurney, God bless him.
Yeah.
A hundred.
101.
I think his mother was 99, wasn't she?
She might have been 100.
Might have been 100, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So the other thing is, everyone loved the last episode when you were talking
about your dog, because people love dogs.
Yeah.
So they'd like to see Doc, if possible.
Walter, bring Doc in here.
Oh, Doc, here he is.
Doc.
Oh, and he's urinating.
No, he's not.
I'm sorry.
I'm so used to him urinating everywhere.
Hello, Doc.
Hi, Doc.
This is the smallest, as I may have mentioned before, the smallest living
mammal on the planet.
He's going to be a big dog.
No, he's not going to be a big dog.
He's fully grown.
No, he's not.
He's two months old, and he's fully grown.
He's not fully grown at two months.
What a good doggy.
And I, you know, I just worry about him, because previously, the dogs of the
Letterman household were maulers.
Big, 9,500.
He's got this big, big pop.
Ow.
From your lips to God's ears, I say, all right, come on, Doc.
Let's do some of your tricks.
Doc, sit.
That you have to go.
Sit.
Doc?
Walter, tell him to sit.
Sit.
Sit, Doc.
Doc, sit.
Sit.
Oh.
Good boy.
How about that?
Hey, good boy.
Yes.
He's been to the best schools in Europe.
It's Doc, the tiniest mammal on the planet.
He's just a baby.
Hello, Doc.
Oh, say hello.
Say hello.
Hello, Doc.
Hello, Doc.
Oh, what a love.
Oh, Doc.
That's fantastic.
All right, dog on the table.
Dog on the table, ladies and gentlemen.
I'm sure that's not a love.
A little something we call dog on the table.
Fantastic.
Well, now we should say goodbye.
All right, say goodbye.
And by the way, I want to thank our friends, Bird and Nan, for bringing Doc
over to the studio.
Come on in, girl.
There they are.
Yeah, come all behind.
Hi, everybody.
Hi.
And look, it's Doc the dog.
Everyone, this is Doc.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks.
Thank you, kids.
Yes.
Thank you, Doc.
Don't forget to subscribe.
Doc.
Doc.
So he just ran outside, took a leak.
That's good.
Good for, good for.
Good boy.
Yeah, it's like a good boy.
He was sleeping on the table.
Whoa.
Whoa.
He almost got on the table.
- Yeah.
