You look great. Thank you. Listen, I was looking through the sports pages the
other day and tell
me why this is. And first of all, I didn't know this was happening. In tiny,
tiny, tiny little
print, they have World Cup ski results. Okay, from Austria. So one, I didn't
know the season
had begun. And two, why does it have to be tiny, tiny, tiny little print? I don't
know. Can you fix
that? I don't know. I thought you could fix that. I am trying. Yeah. Yeah. We raced,
well, I didn't
race. The World Cup started a couple days ago, but unfortunately, it wasn't,
was not in
it. Because you had this tremendously awful, horrible crash. What, what event
was it? At
Schmadlingstadt or something? You nailed it. It's called Schladming. Schladming.
Well, pretty
close, right? I mean, pretty close. That's why it's in tiny, tiny print. Yeah,
probably. It's
Schladming. And, and the conditions were horrible. They shouldn't have had the
race at all. No. And
it's just, it's glare ice. Was that what it was? No, no. We were supposed to
start the
crash at 10:30 in the morning and we ended up starting at about 3:30 in the
afternoon. Oh
my God. So it was slop. And yeah, just. So it wasn't, it wasn't frozen. No. And
that's
why when I went off the jump, my, and I landed, my ski literally stopped in the
snow. And I
went over my leg. It was really. Do you mind if we show the footage of the
crash? Oh, go for it. Okay. And
how, and how long ago was this? This was not even a year ago, was it? No, it
was only
about nine months. Nine months ago. Or let's take a look at the, here's your
Schladmingstrasse.
How fast are you going here, Lindsay? I don't know. 75. 75. Oh.
Now, uh, first of all, because there's so much conversation about concussion,
did you hit your
head in that fall at all? Uh, I don't know. I was kind of distracted by pain.
Painful immediately.
Yes. Very painful. And then they, they bring in the, the helicopter. The
medical teams in
Europe at these events is, is good. Is it first rate stuff? I hope so. Yeah.
Yeah. And, and here,
they're, they're flying you out. They bring in the helicopter and this must
have just been
crazy. Where, who are those guys? I have no idea. And how, and how long did
this last? Is
this really what you're supposed to be doing? I don't know. But, but where did,
where did
they take you? To the hospital. Okay. So now, what, what, what, what had you
done to your,
what were the injuries from that? Um, basically I tore my ACL, um, and I tore
my MCL off the
tibia, which only happens in about 5% of, of all MCL tears. So everything had
to be totally
reconstructed. They basically took part of my hamstring, created a whole new
ligament, MCL,
um, uh, ACL. And then my tibial plateau was also fractured. It's remarkable
what, what they
can do, isn't it? It really is. Crazy. Now, when they take a little bit of the
hamstring,
does, does that make your hand, hamstring weaker than it ought to be? Um, a
little bit. It's,
it's kind of a funny feeling. Um, sometimes, you know, when my, my knee is
totally bent,
uh, I just don't have the strength and power. It's kind of like dead weight
almost, um, which
isn't good. Yeah. Have you, have you been skiing already? You're up in the skis?
Oh yeah. And
you'd be all right for the Olympics? Oh yeah. A hundred days away, the Olympics.
Yep. And,
and will you compete in any World Cup events between now and the Olympics? Oh
yeah. Um,
I start racing end of November right after Thanksgiving, uh, in Beaver Creek.
And, and,
uh, Colorado. So the, so the first time you get back up on skis, was there a
certain measure
of, oh my God, I, I just don't know if I can perform the way I did before. Do
you have that
in your head a little bit? Nope. Wow. That's remarkable. You have scars? Yeah.
I mean, I,
I, we kind of tried to cover them up. Yeah. So, you know, but they're, it's
small. I have,
you know, no, no, no. No, they got to open the whole thing up? Oh, it's, it's a
fillet. Oh,
see, I didn't know that. I'm sorry. Look at, did we see it there? Let me see
that again. Yeah.
That's, I mean, that's cover up, cover girl. Come on. Wow. Nice job. Um, are
you looking forward to the Olympics? No.
That's a stupid question, right? A little bit.
Uh, and, and, and in, in the meantime, you, you meet and you start dating Tiger
Woods. How did you guys,
you had been friends? How did, where did the friendship come from? Um, we're
athletes.
So I guess we have something in common there. Um, yeah, we met at his charity
tournament or
charity event in, uh, in Vegas, Tiger Jam. And, um, yeah, we were friends for a
long time. And,
um, I don't know. We just kind of relate really well to one another. Did you
play golf?
I have a hole in one. I'm pretty proud of that. Really? Yeah. My first round of
18 holes,
I got a hole in one. Really? Oh my God.
It didn't bounce off a tree or anything and go into the hole, actually. It's
pretty legitimate.
Are you telling the truth now? Do you really have a hole in it?
I'm honest. Always. Now, what about your buddy Tiger? Does, does, does he enjoy
skiing?
Yeah, he's good. So you guys can go ski. Boy, if this guy goes down, there's
trouble, right?
That wouldn't be good. Yeah. Yeah. Is he a pretty good skier? Yeah, he's good.
He does,
you know, he, he always wants to improve. So he feels like he's, you know,
compared to me,
he's really not that good, but you know.
Uh, tell me about this, uh, thank you, uh, mom, uh, thing. What are we talking
about here?
This is a great idea. Tell me what I don't know about this. This is for parents
who, who support and
encourage kids to pursue their Olympic dreams. Yeah. I mean, I'm on TV. I'm an
Olympian, you know, people
recognize me, but my mom never gets recognition for everything she did and how
much she supported
me. And, um, you know, all the Olympians wouldn't be where they are without
their mothers and no one
ever thanks them. So, you know, I'm really proud to be a part of the P and G
family of athletes and,
um, to have, have them support my mom and give me the opportunity to say, thank
you.
I think your mom, do you mind if we show folks? Yeah, go for it.
She's, uh, over there in the next room. There's your mom. Oh, hi, mom.
Lindsay, mom's, Lindsay Vaughn's mom.
The Proctor and Gamble Thank You Mom campaign.
Well, I'm very excited. I'm very excited that you're healthy. I'm, I'm very
excited for the upcoming
Olympics. Thanks. And, and, uh, I look forward to seeing you, uh, skiing again
on the World Cup,
uh, uh, back in Colorado. How soon, when is that event coming up? Um, right
after Thanksgiving.
Right after Thanksgiving. God bless you. Good luck to you. Thank you. Lindsay
Vaughn, ladies and gentlemen.
