Welcome back to the Bob and Tom Show. We are Coast to Coast, and I believe we
have the great comedian Norm MacDonald joining us.
Norm?
Hey, how's it going, man?
Pretty good. How are you doing?
I'm all right. I'm all right.
You know, Norm, just your saying hello makes me laugh. I am one of your biggest
fans. I just love your stuff.
I know you guys. I know you guys. I've seen you guys. I've seen you guys on the
YouTube.
Uh-huh.
And we've spoken before on the show.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah.
See, there you go.
Yes, we have.
Why am I not on the YouTube?
Well, I don't know.
You weren't in here. We were talking to you on the phone.
Oh, yeah.
You've got a bunch of stuff going on, I know, including something on a game
show network, GSN, showing off your poker skills.
No.
You're hosting them, actually, right?
Yeah, I just watch other people play poker, and then I use my expert analysis
as well as my ability to see their whole cards.
Well, there's that.
You know, it's so much easier on TV when you can see their cards.
Yeah, it's a lot easier to get to say, what's this idiot thinking?
Clearly, that guy has a six.
Uh-huh.
Hello?
Now, we were talking to some friends of yours, comedian friends of ours, and
you're apparently quite good at poker.
I think you're being modest here.
Uh, I'm all right.
I mean, I'm all right.
I'm not like these guys, but, yeah, I'm all right.
Okay, now, so what's the format of the show?
Well, they, uh, a bunch of, uh, famous poker players play poker.
Wow.
And you just sit there looking at their whole cards.
Mm-hmm.
I don't want to give too much away.
Does anybody win?
Some of the people win every week, and some of the people lose every week.
Now, let me ask, let me rephrase that, Norm.
Do they pay you your fee for hosting this show, uh, in chips or in money?
Well, I am, uh, in the past, I mean, that's where I started playing poker,
actually, because
in the past when I was doing stand-up, I'd, uh, I'd end up down money like, uh,
like, you
know, it was like those old stories about Sammy Davis Jr.
Yeah.
Right after war.
Yeah.
One day, one time I worked in Bali 96 straight weeks.
Wow.
Whoa.
Did you finally break even?
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, but I, uh, I kind of played poker just to stop bleeding money as fast.
Yeah.
Just to get me away from the, from the pit, you know.
Mm-hmm.
What was your game before that, craps?
Yeah, it was the, uh, I had a crap system.
Oh, did you?
Everyone has a system.
Yeah.
I noticed there's no, no book published.
Published, so.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The unfortunate part is that, uh, that, that pure math tells you it's
impossible, but,
uh, you know, a human, you know, hope, as Obama would put it, hope abides.
Yes, it does.
Now, do you have a poker nickname?
What's that?
You have a poker nickname.
I mean, everybody, the, all these famous players in the world of pool and poker
always
have really cool, cool nicknames.
Are you Norm MacDonald, or are you, do you have like, uh, do they call you, I
don't know,
Alberta Ted or something?
I don't know.
Yeah, Alberta V05, what do you, what?
He's Canadian, that's the first thing that came to mind.
I don't know.
The maple leaf monster.
Yeah, Alberta Clipper, that's what they call him.
There we go.
Oh, that's a good poker tip.
Never play, uh, poker with a guy whose first name's a state.
Yeah.
Good, good to know.
Wisconsin, Norm.
How about, uh, what part of Canada are you from originally?
I'm from Quebec City.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, that, that'd be an unwieldy handle.
Yeah.
Quebec City, Norm.
Well, you were the Quebec City cooler, I understand, at the, uh, at the crab
stable, unfortunately.
Ouch!
Well, he admitted it.
Now, uh, uh, Norm, are you still playing, uh, um, in the sort of the celebrity
hockey league
in L.A.?
No, no, I, uh, no, I tore my tendon like a, uh, like a, uh, I tore my tendon
like a,
um, uh, I don't know, you had to phone Dennis Miller to find out how I tore my
tendon.
Yeah, that makes sense.
But it's all torn anyway.
Uh-huh.
It's like a skate.
Mm.
Oh.
Taking away, the doctor says you'll never be able to skate again.
Hmm.
So, uh, so that was depressing.
Well, that'll, that'll take you right to the poker table, won't it?
Yeah.
That was probably, uh, playing, uh, playing football against, it was from, uh,
it was from, uh,
it was just an old man trying to, trying to play a young man's game.
Mm-hmm.
I was trying to play football with my boy and his friends.
And, uh, tendon ripped.
Ugh.
I could do my Achilles.
Ouch.
So you're not going to do that playing poker, is Bob just in?
No, you don't.
We're talking with, uh, Norm MacDonald.
He's a sport with a chair.
Yeah.
Norm is a distinguished comedian.
Do you have any other, uh, comedy stuff of interest coming up?
Um, oh, I have a Comedy Central special.
That's what I thought we saw an ad for.
That's interesting about it.
I saw that, uh, that you, is it, uh, this weekend?
Yeah, it's on Saturday.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Hence the weekend.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
You guys going to watch it?
Yeah, well, I think so.
We're going to watch it.
Of course we're going to watch it.
The way you're selling it.
Are you kidding?
After that endorsement?
Uh-huh.
No, it's on the TV.
It's, uh, eh, you know, whatever.
Uh-huh.
We'll give it a shot.
We'll give it a shot.
Well, you guys, uh, do you guys, like, uh, have any, uh, have any condition
where your,
uh, where your sides can't hurt?
Oh, because you're, I see the point.
The side splitter, huh?
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, good.
I'm looking forward to that.
Do you have any condition where your, your knees can't be hit by your hands?
No, I don't have any.
Is that good?
Yeah.
Yeah, you guys will be cool.
All right.
Okay, all right.
Norm MacDonald is our guest.
Norm is going to be on, uh, High Stakes Poker, also, uh, airing on, uh, the
Game Show
Network, GSN, Saturdays at, at 8.
I'm looking forward to it.
Did they let you, did they let you be funny at all on the poker show?
Oh, yeah, man.
Okay.
It's not all serious.
Yeah, no, it's not all serious.
It's, uh, it's, uh, it's, uh, it's a lot of, uh, it's a lot of tomfoolery.
Is that right?
Hijinks?
From hijinks?
Some hijinks.
Hijinks, 51 card poker, you know, stuff like that.
Wait for that ace?
That's not in the deck.
Oh, look, our host, our host, Norm MacDonald, has it in his pocket.
Isn't he funny?
He's a card.
Norm, Norm, do you do any, uh, voiceover stuff?
Do you do any commercials?
Oh, no, I love that stuff, man.
Yeah.
You don't do any?
No.
You should, because I love your voice.
You have one of the most...
I know, that would be, because I have a weird voice, right?
Yeah.
You have a recognizable voice, yeah.
I know.
I mean, my voice sounds all right to myself, but, like, uh, a lot of times,
like, people
will do impressions of me, and I know, uh, I know what's coming's not that good.
Fair enough.
I'll be in the street, and the guy's like, I can do you, and I go, okay, let's
go ahead.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
That's uncanny.
Well, Norm, Norm McDonald, thanks.
I know you've got to run here.
Norm is featured, once again, GSN is the network, game show network, high
stakes poker, airing
Saturdays at 8 Eastern, and also watch for Norm on Comedy Central, and I'll be
ready to have
my side split and knees slapped.
I'm sure it'll be very funny.
I look forward to it, Norm.
Thanks for the call.
Yeah, keep up the good work on YouTube.
All right, thanks, Norm.
Thanks very much, Norm.
All right, man.
All right, bye.
Love that voice.
Are we on YouTube?
Are we on YouTube?
Oh, there's all kinds of segments of the show all over the place.
