Well, Norm Macdonald, I'm sure you recognize from SNL, among a million other
things, at the Laugh Shop this weekend.
Yeah.
I don't think I've ever had a guest on the show where I have to ask their name.
Sorry, what's your name?
Oh, uh, Sean O'Connor.
Sean O'Connor, also.
Okay, so you guys are a package deal at the Laugh Shop this weekend.
Yes.
Okay, so Norm, you can tell us about Sean.
Yeah, he's the future of comedy.
Oh, no.
Okay, why?
Well, in the future, people will enjoy him.
And the future tonight, or not quite yet?
Oh, no, yeah.
Have you ever heard of Funny as Hell?
Yeah.
Yeah, this guy was on it.
I'm on it this year.
Okay, so we should watch you.
On HBO Canada.
Okay, so we'll watch you on that.
And you guys are Calgary Flames fans?
Yeah, I'm a huge fan.
Our future Calgary Flames fans.
You're just being nice because you're in our city.
Yeah, no, I hate the Flames.
I love Diron Flurry.
Good, good for you.
So, how did you guys become acquainted with one another?
Through our love for hockey.
We're big hockey fans.
Like, I love every sport, but hockey's my favorite.
He knows hockey.
Yeah.
Because you're from New Jersey, aren't you?
Oh, yeah, 1994 New York Rangers.
Mike Keenan.
That's it?
Yeah.
Mark Messier.
And you said this is the coldest.
I don't know if he thinks Mark Messier as a ranger.
He was.
We talked to him yesterday.
Yeah, he was the captain of the New York Rangers.
He was.
Well, that's not how I think of him.
No, it's not how we think of him here.
Well, I guess not.
You think of him as the enemy.
Well, no, not really.
He's Mark Messier.
Yeah, yeah, but I mean, doesn't Calgary think of Edmonton as the enemy?
Probably.
Yeah.
But you have to have respect.
And you said this is the coldest you've ever been.
You're Canadian, so are you okay with this?
I've been colder than this.
I've been colder than vampires.
Go on.
Go on.
That's like an 8 a.m. joke.
No, yeah, we can do it at 719.
The stage is yours.
So I understand you're writing a memoir.
Is this true?
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
That is true.
You seem surprised that I know things about you.
Yeah, what do you do, man?
Read a thing or something?
I read a thing or two, I check on your Twitter.
Do you have a computer?
I do, I have a computer.
I have a few computers.
Yeah, no, I go on Twitter because I like sports.
I know, and that's how I know you like Graham Dillette.
Yeah, I love Graham Dillette.
Is he a hero here?
Yeah, people like him.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I think he's the next George Knudson.
I don't know who that is.
Yeah, no, he was a legendary golfer in Canada.
Was he?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
I'll give you the whole timeline.
There was Moe Norman, then there was George Knudson, then there was Mike Weir,
and now there's Fritch and Delea and the other fella.
And the other fella.
I don't remember his name.
See, I'm getting schooled here.
Is this like, is this a lot of lessons for you, hanging out with Norm?
Oh, yeah, I've never heard of George Knudson before.
Lessons in comedy, though, too?
Oh, yeah, well, he was my boss.
I've never heard of the sports show at Norm MacDonald, so I learned everything
I know about comedy that day.
What are the lessons in comedy from Norm MacDonald?
I mean, tweet about golf.
I think it's a big one.
That's it?
Yeah, that's pretty much it.
Tweet about golf.
I want to know...
Listen, I'll be honest with you.
The future of comedy looks pretty bleep.
I want to know more about your memoir and what you've been up to.
Please.
Oh, yeah, no, I decided I'd write a...
They wanted me to write a memoir, so I said yes.
Worst mistake of my life.
How's it going?
Oh, my God, terrible.
Like, it turns out, when you look back at your life, nothing happened.
Well, lots happened to you.
No, not when you look back.
You go, when you really look back at your life, you go, what did I do?
I ate a lot of eggs.
You know, I talked to people in cafes in Vienna.
No.
Surely there's substance enough for a memoir.
There isn't substance enough, and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't call me
Shirley.
Oh, wow.
Try the veal.
Okay, let's talk about stand-up, then, because that's always been your first
lab.
Yes, that's what I love is stand-up.
That's what you love?
Yeah.
So, how often are you coming back to it now?
Well, I took the longest time I've ever been off to write this book.
I took a year and a half off.
Before that, my record was three weeks.
That's the longest I've ever not done stand-up.
So, I've done stand-up.
Yeah, man, I love it.
You love it?
Yeah.
And also, your podcast, are you coming back to that, too?
Yeah, we're going to bring the podcast back.
Okay.
Do you know what podcasts are?
I have a computer.
Yeah, but still, a lot of people don't know what podcasts are.
Well, yours are video podcasts.
Yeah, that's even more confusing.
You can watch them, but first, head to the Lab Shop tonight through Saturday,
and an exclusive
concert presentation with Sean O'Connor, also.
Yeah, I will be there.

You're adorable.
Thank you.
So are you.
Thank you, gentlemen.
Sean, nice to meet you.
Nice to see you.
Nice to see you.
Dave, we're going to take a look.
